Jeneva Rose's novel, The Perfect Marriage is a propulsive legal thriller full of twists and turns that will leave you breathless. Sarah Morgan is a defense attorney on the fast track at her DC law firm. Everything in her life appears to be going according to plan. Her husband Adam is a writer who hasn't written anything in years and lives in the shadow of his successful wife. And while Sarah realizes Adam has problems she isn't prepared to for the shock of finding him accused of the murder of his pregnant mistress in their vacation home. Hurt and bewildered, Sarah agrees to defend Adam against the charges and find the truth behind the murder. I listened to this book on audio and it was really well done. I really liked the narrators. It is always helpful to have more than one as you get a real feel for the characters. This is a fast paced legal thriller that points you in many directions and has lots of surprises. The ending is what always sells me on a thriller and this one was really effective and unforseen. This is one of those books that if you divulge much information it will spoil the book for the reader. This book is all about the twists and unexpected revelations. The only negative thing I have to say about this book is that the character of Adam is completely unlikeable. The way he thinks and talks about really made me dislike him. His first reaction to every woman is to describe her appearance and sex appeal. Women seem to exist merely for his pleasure and to be a boost for his fragile ego. I assume the author intended for the reader to have this reaction to him for the purposes of the plot. Still I would have liked to be able to feel a little sympathy towards him. This book had me thoroughly confused as to who done it. As soon as I thought I knew, a new suspect would emerge and I loved that. I read lots of thrillers and it's hard to surprise me but this one really did. If you like books that move at a fast pace with lots of red herrings and surprises I would recommend this one. I would also encourage you to listen to the audiobook as it is really well done. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this advance copy in exchange for an honest review. |
This was a good psychological thriller that kept me guessing until the end! It's the story of Adam Morgan (having lived in Northern VA for years, I couldn't help but think of Adams Morgan, an area of DC, everytime I heard this!) who was having an affair when his mistress was murdered. Adam is the one suspect and on trial with his wife, a prominent lawyer, defending him. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration. It's told from 2 points of view, Adam and his wife, Sarah. The voice for Sarah reminded me of the Tik Tok video voice used for dogs when they are in trouble, if that makes sense. I listened to it over two days and was so interested to find out what happens so I couldn't put it down. *Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this in exchange for my honest opinion. |
In this book, a husband and wife face a life changing ordeal. The husband is framed for murdering his pregnant mistress. His wife takes on his case as he is facing the death penalty. Unfortunately, I did not get hooked on the story until the last 3 chapters. The story itself was ok, just a bit boring/bland. The ending was very unexpected which saved the book for me. |

The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose is a great psychological thriller that is filled with so many twists and turns. It is a book that will quickly suck you in and keep you guessing the entire time. I will admit, I started to feel like it was getting lengthy and I was ready to get it figured out. However, towards the ends it kept getting even better. The ending will leave you with your mouth wide open. Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to review this audiobook. I definitely recommend any reader to listen to this, especially if you love thrillers! |

Jeneva Rose crafted a suspenseful thriller filled with endless drama that left me guessing until the very end. This story is based on Sarah Morgan, a successful defense attorney in Washington DC, who finds herself defending her own husband, Adam, a man accused of murdering his mistress. While their marriage may look perfect on the outside, we learn that Adam has been engaging in a lengthy passionate affair with Kelly Summers. As details about their affair and her inevitable murder are exposed, I constantly found myself questioning whether or not Adam was guilty. I have been left thinking about the end of this book for days, how did I not see it coming?! I do wish we were able to experience more of the murder trial as there was so much build up and it was almost completely skipped over. I am a huge fan of crime podcasts so I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook and I think I’ll make a habit of listening to more thrillers on audio. |
3.5 stars! The perfect marriage started off strong. I enjoyed the audio and the switch of point of views but I felt the storyline a bit unbelievable and problematic. This domestic thriller was fast paced and filled with twists I liked both Sarah and Adam but for me it fell a bit flat. Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an audio version of the perfect marriage for my honest review. I look forward to reading more books by Jenova Rose! The book, story, and narrative was very well written. I didn't see it coming but i did kind of feel like i knew the story but i really didn't. Murder mystery was very well carried out and the end was fantastic , terrible but wow ! Loved the audiobook , I thoroughly enjoyed team reading. The narrators did a fantastic job I loved their voices fit so well with the characters. Having different people narrate the book makes it more engaging. I highly recommend this book !!! |

HOLY TWIST! I wish the audio was better on the Netgalley app, but besides that this was WOW what a great read. I could NOT put it down. Literally so hooked. I actually ended up buying this too since I wanted to support the authors. I can't wait to read more by her! |
I really enjoyed this fast-paced legal thriller. My guess at the killer was wrong, and I love being stumped! The short chapters made this book fly by, and the differing perspectives were very well done. It was interesting to see the story from both the husband and wife’s points of view. I loved how the information was presented as the book progressed–the author would hint at something and then not mention it again for chapters and chapters. Just when you began to think she left a loose end, she brought the plot back around and tied up all those hints in a satisfying bow. Excellent debut novel–I can’t wait to see what Jeneva Rose does next! I enjoyed the narrators, and thought they fit the characters very well. The audiobook definitely did the novel justice. |
I started this story while wrapping Christmas presents on Christmas Eve and was instantly enthralled. I didn’t want to stop listening but with it being Christmas I had to. Needless to say I finished it as soon as was possible with in the next few days. Who killed the mistress? The author tells a story about Sarah Morgan a successful DC attorney and her husband Adam Morgan, a struggling author. At first it seems they have a perfect life together until Adam’s mistress if found dead in their 2nd home. The twists and turns of the story will keep you on your toes. I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook and my thank you goes out to NetGalley for the listen. |
This f-ing review is the best f-ing review this f-ing book will ever get in it's f-ing life. If you hate the use of the word f-ing don't bother reading this book. I find when authors resort to using 10 cent words they aren't really writers. This book held such promise and boy did it disappoint. The characters are flat, boring and have nothing endearing about them. Sarah Morgan the successful defense attorney starts out with promise. She has a successful career and seems professional but that facade soon leaves with her F this and F that. Adam her writer husband is whiney, childish and makes such poor choices you wonder if he's 14 and not in his 30s. His mother (don't get me started) what a horrible character, She should have never even made it in the book. There are so many plot twists and turns and holes that you wonder if the author is actually a tornado intent on destroying any future hope of me picking up another book by her again. I will give props to the narrators of the audiobook. They at least made it somewhat bearable. Perhaps that is why I listened to the whole things hoping it would get better and not worse. Thank you to #DreamscapeMedia #NetGalley for the book and starting my book review journey. |

Wow wow wow... I was not expecting that ending! I loved this book I was hooked from the very beginning. I can honestly say when I wasn’t listening to this audiobook I was constantly thinking about it and trying to figure out Adam and the motives of every character. |

Great book, it has some more pg13 moments but a great thriller nonetheless. Thank you to netgalley for an advanced reading copy. Very much appreciated |
I love twists and turns but I also love likeable characters in a book. I didn't really like any of the characters in this story- and maybe that was by design, but I need that in order to love a book, I need someone to root for. Adam was sex crazed and immature (Mama's boy) and hearing his inner thoughts was frustrating - he deserves everything that he is getting in my opinion. I also am not a huge fan of the F word for the sake of using the F word... when other words will do. I was not a fan of the narrators either. What I did really like about this book were what I would consider a well deserved ending and the different Points of View in the book. I will read more by Jeneva Rose. |
What a crazy, awesome story! This was a murder-mystery/wrongfully accused/legal thriller/domestic thriller mash-up, and I loved it! Adam is having an affair. His mistress is found dead in his lakehouse bed. Adam is arrested. His wife, a top defense attorney, becomes his lawyer. Adam swears he didn’t do it. That’s the main idea of this one. If Adam isn’t the murderer, who is? They need to work fast because he’s getting charged with murder and the prosecution is pushing for the death penalty. I was really not expecting this book to go where it did. It was fast-paced and filled with twists that I was just completely taken by surprise with. I had inklings of who I thought did it, but then I would dismiss them because they didn’t seem to fit. Boy…😲 was I wrong! This is a dual-POV story, so you get to hear Adam’s side of things as well as his wife’s. I liked that there are two narrators to tell the story in the audio version. They both did an excellent job, and it helped make the story come to life for me. I highly recommend the audio if you can grab it! Overall, I thought this was an awesome thriller with so many twists, I was constantly second-guessing what was happening. The ending was great and made the whole story come together for me. I highly recommend it if you enjoy domestic thrillers! I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily. |

Sarah is a successful lawyer and Adam is an author in a lull. When his mistress ends up murdered in Sarah and Adam’s lake house, Sarah is Adam’s best chance at being acquitted. I’m not typically a fan of fiction audiobooks, but this book kept me hooked from the start. The plot moves along and kept me engaged throughout the story and of course ends with a twist. If you’re a fan of thrillers, this is a must read. |
What a ride, the perfect marriage has many twists and turns and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Just when I thought I had it figured out the ending took my breathe away. I enjoyed the story but LOVED the ending. |

I kept seeing this one pop up EVERYWHERE and knew I had to read it. This book was like a game of clue. You think you know who did it. But then you think it might be this other person. And then you think it could be someone else. I loved how it was told from two different points of view. I can’t wait to see this one turned into a movie or mini series. |
Thoroughly enjoyed this suspenseful book! The narration was well done with great character development and a twisty plot that kept my attention until the very end. |

In a year of amazing female debut authors, Jeneva Rose joins the ranks of one of the best. The Perfect Marriage is a thriller lover’s dream. It’s twisty, it’s edgy, and it has a jaw-dropping finale that I promise you that you won’t see coming. I was totally captivated by Jeneva’s strategy of telling the story in alternating chapters, one in the voice of Sarah Morgan, a badass defense attorney, and then one in the voice of her husband Adam, a lying, cheating, down-on-his-luck writer. So often in a book like this, the narrative is from one character’s point of view, and I felt the contrast in the stories gave the book a substance and dimension that left me feeling completely satisfied as a reader. The narrators, Neil Hellagers and Teri Schnaubelt are amazing, and they definitely added to my enjoyment of this already thoroughly entertaining novel! |
