Really exciting second installment in the series! This had me hooked from the beginning, and I flew through it in an afternoon. I thought the way the mystery played out was handled really well. There were plenty of red herrings, but nothing felt forced and it all came together really well (even if the truth was disturbing!)

I also really liked how Adler's personal life was interspersed into the story. It was just enough to make her human, but didn't take away from the primary plot. It was enough to keep me intrigued and looking forward to see how the rest of the series plays out! I'm also definitely interested to go back and read some of his earlier books that get at Adler's and Dwyer's backstories.

Overall, this is nothing life-changing, but a really solid thriller, and I'd definitely recommend.

While this book can absolutely be read as a stand-alone, there are mentions of events that took place in the first book, which can be a spoiler if you intend to read that book as well.

On the whole, I enjoyed this novel more than I did the first in this series. Unlike some of the other people who have reviewed, I enjoyed the glimpses into Susan's family life and the way she often struggled to balance her home life with her work. I felt it made her relatable to the other single parents out there who are trying their best everyday. I also enjoyed the budding romance between her and Liam, although I sincerely hope that doesn't begin to overshadow the whodunit portion of future novels.

This was definitely an interesting read, with all of the twists and red-herrings needed to keep the reader guessing and invested. I will say at times, certain things became a little too... convenient, and at other times, had I been Adler and Dwyer, I would have started hauling people in for obstruction of justice. I will also admit that sadly, while I was interested in the outcome of the story, I found myself skimming parts towards the end because it started to become a bit tedious with all the withholding of information and secrets.

The ending was something that I did not expect, and looking back, I can't even pinpoint a time when one of the culprits was even hinted at having something to do with any part of the murder previously.

In conclusion, I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys slow burn police procedurals that will keep you guessing.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

A thank you to Netgalley for sharing the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Not necessarily completely original (but what is?) this is a consistently engaging police procedural great characters and enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes. In other words, just plain good from start to finish and well worth the the time.

In this second installment for Adler and Dwyer, TELL ME THE TRUTH, presents one murdered teen and a family that clearly isn’t telling authorities everything they know. From the son to the parents, this mystery is brimming with misdirection and confusion. Was the murdered teen reckless or redeemed? What was she doing outside in the middle of the night? Author Matthew Farrell once again provides more clues than are necessary to solve this tightly woven tale. It’s a good one. I received my copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

Absolutely loved this book...i want more by Matthew Farrell. This is the second book in the Adler and Dwyer series and is a book you dont want to put down until the end.
The thriller opens with 18 year old Jenny found by her mother stabbed to death. What follows is a thrilling plot where State police investigator Susan Adler and her consultant partner Liam Dwyer must find the killer while up against a number of contradictions, too many suspects and too many lies.
You will want to race to the ending to discover the true culprit.

This is an interesting police drama about an 18year old daughter murdered in her back yard. This is the second book in the series. I know I would have enjoyed the book more had I read the first in the series. Two huge events were mentioned from the first book. I would love to go back and read that story!

.I wasn't able to guess the outcome of this story -which is rare for me.

TELL ME THE TRUTH - MATHEW FARRELL
PUB BY - THOMAS AND MERCER
PUB DATE- 22TH JUNE
PLOT - Jenny Moore,18, is viciously stabbed and it's her mother who finds her blood soaked body outside their home in Lewisboro, New York.
PI - Susan Adler and Liam Dwyer are called to investigate and they immediately find something missing at home. The Moore family are hiding something..What is it?? Who killed Jenny?? Could it be her parents? Or her little brother?? Or her ex lover??.

MY THOUGHTS - A well plotted, easy to follow story where each suspect, each mystery, each twist is peeled off in a layer.
The character of Susan Adler was very well described, she is a hardass and my favourite - a perfectly balanced work and home life. Her instincts were spot on.
I kinda guessed the bad guy halfway through but the little twist in the end was good kept me second guess..
I loved the short chapters which made it a fast read! Pick this book up I you love police procedural books!
I give 3.75 rounded to 4
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion

I was excited to read this book after reading the first Adler and Dwyer book. I really like the writing style and how quickly it pulls you in. I also really like reading books with different POVs because I find you can get more depth to the plot and better character development. I would keep reading books by Farrell.

Jenny Moore's life was just beginning; she was going off to college, away from the confines and secrets of a home life which could get very scary. At eighteen she had the whole world at her feet until her mother found her dead in the woods behind their house.

Investigator Susan Adler has a new partner, Liam Dwyer, and together they begin to look into Jenny’s murder and almost immediately it is clear things don't add up. While the family lawyer is brutally restricting and dismissive, Jenny’s dad tries to hold everything together. Her younger brother is quietly thoughtful and watchful especially of her almost catatonic mom, who has retreated inside herself away from the horrors that haunt her.

This is a brilliant book which compliments the previous three installments. There are so many layers to this story and every time anything becomes remotely apparent more twists and turns appear. I love Susan Adler, she is an understated but very effective main protagonist and Liam Dwyer compliments her in the best of ways. There are spoilers in this, especially with regard to the first book, and so maybe read them in order if you can you definitely won't regret it.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This was a real pleasure to read and I loved everything about it.

A well plotted story with many twists and turns. Something is not right about the Moore family and there are too many questions and secrets.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was an enthralling mystery. A young woman is stabbed and left for dead. Everyone in her life is telling lies. Why? Everyone is keeping secrets, even the victim's parents. I'm not usually a fan of police procedurals but I read the first book in this series and it was great. I was excited for the second book and it didn't disappoint. The story is interesting and the cop protagonist is a well rounded character.

This is a good mystery that explores the lengths a parent will go to protect a child. There is a good twist at the end to provide a satisfying conclusion. Minor characters add to the complexity of the story and add balance to increase the build-up to the big reveal.

I liked this book pretty well, like the alternating storylines between the family of the victim and the detectives investigating the case. It was a bit slow in the beginning and midway through and a little bit of one tone. It did pick up as it went along and gave us a few twists til we got to the final one

I love police procedural books and this one did not disappoint!! It kept me guessing until the very end and I didn’t see the ending coming at all. Matthew Farrell is a great author and I recommend this book!

I understand the need for stretching a bit in order to make an interesting plot, but this one just has too many strange things and characters. The beginning and the disposition are good, and it's an easy read, but it's too slow and there are lots of repetitions.

Jenny is about to go to college for a fresh start. Just before she leaves, she is stabbed and left for dead. When the detectives come, they realize something is off right away.

The entire family is considered to be suspects and the reader isn't sure who it is. The killer is just getting started, and must be stopped before they kill again.

Tell Me the Truth by Matthew Farrell. Second in the Dwyer and Adler series. Suspenseful mystery with many twists and misdirection with all the loose threads tied up neatly in the end. Liam and Susan are evolving into a good team and looking forward to reading more books in the series.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Thank you to @netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I have mixed feelings about this one to be honest. It was very easy to follow, I liked the relationship between the 2 detectives, and there were lots of twists there towards the end. LOTS. But I gotta say, the first half was really slow and kind of repetitive, I felt like they were going over the same list of suspects and evidence a few times. And half way through, I guessed the murderer and I was right. But it did make me second guess several times.

The end was fast and twisty and when I got to about 80% I couldn’t put it down. But it was a pretty slow lead up.

What I loved:
Short chapters! ❤️
Alternates perspectives between the family and the investigators.

This is book 2 in a series, which I didn’t realize until I started reading. But I don’t think you have to read the first one to follow this one at all.
