This was a delightful cozy story. I gave it 4 stars because there was a gap in the storyline that maybe the author or editor missed, I'm not sure or maybe just the audible version had an error.
Narrator was vry good.

Kind of a fun take on the basic murder mystery involving the cooking up of a little witchcraft and wizardry! I really liked it! Refreshing takes! Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for a copy of this book for an honest review.

Synopsis:

Mia is working to open a catering business but encounters a client before she is open and ready. She’s teaming up with James and Trent to get this done.

John Lewis wants her building and tells her that he is going to make her want to sell it to him. The building is falling apart and needs a lot of work but she is willing to do what it takes to get it up and running.

Before she gets to finish the job, her client ends up dead. Then, Mia ends up the suspect in the murder. John informs William that Mia is the one who killed his aunt because she didn’t like her. He threatens her. Now she has a target on her back. Will she be the next one to end up dead? Or can they find out who the real killer is before it’s too late?

Review:

This was such a good cozy mystery. There are warlocks and witches that have different powers. The murder was a mystery so me the whole time, although I’m not sure how anyone could have really been able to figure it out, but I’m okay with that.

I thought that Mia was a bit ditzy. She isn’t really the amateur sleuth but instead walks into things but I will be continuing with the series.

This was given to me via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Mia had returned to Magic Springs with plans to open her own catering business. When planning a party, the hostess is being very difficult. When the hostess ends up dead, Mia becomes a suspect. Mia's grandmother is best friends with the murder victim and stand to inherit her property, could that be a motive. When some long lost relatives arrive in Magic Springs just before the party, they also become suspects. There are a lot of people to investigate, and some twists that cause the investigators to go in various directions.

Mia jumps in to help investigate and with the help of Trent, a local businessman, she makes some inroads into the investigation. I like how Trent's and Mia's relationship is blossoming. They are friends now, but I can definitely see a romance down the road. There is a lot of action and Mia is in danger a few times, but Trent seems to be there whenever she needs help. There was also another mystery involving Mia's home and someone getting in. This gave me the creeps as the idea that someone breaks into my home while I am asleep is one of my fears. The secondary characters of Mia's grandmother and her ex-boyfriend's sister round out this sister nicely. I look forward to seeing more of them in the future. Overall this is a well-plotted cozy mystery, with great characters and a wonderful storyline. Exactly what I love about Lynn Cahoon's books. I look forward to more books in the Kitchen Witch series.

Angie Hickman did a great job with the narration. She gave Mia and the other characters their own identity with her voices. She added excitement to the story using her expression and tone. I enjoyed listening to this book and feel confident that I will enjoy books Angie Hickman narrates. I was gifted a copy of this book upon request. The rating and opinions shared are my own.

I listened to this one on audio. Mia moves to Magic Springs to start over with her life. She starts her business to provide a gourmet dining service. However, something happens that causes Mia to start trying to figure out what has happen in her new town. The residents of this town are also interested in solving this murder. A good long cozy mystery.
I appreciate that the book was long and not just a short novel.

If you like a little magic in your cozy mysteries, this is a delightful start to a new series. Mia Malone is opening up her catering business in Magic Springs, a town that is home to many magical folks. This is the first full length novel of the new series, it started with a novella called Chilli Cauldron Curse, which unfortunately I didn’t know about. I may go back & read it to clear a few things up. However I still think you can read this book & get along ok. I liked Mia quite a bit, she’s smart but still grounded. I’m enjoying the supporting characters very much. I also love any tidbits about the magical towns history or secrets, I’m looking forward to learning more. This is a very strong start to a new series, it’s fun & descriptive & I was able to tear through it quickly. Cant wait for book two!

One Poison Pie by Lynn Cahoon is a delightful listen. I so enjoyed this culinary story. The author wrote intriguing characters with a little extra. I love it when people get second chances in life, and this story has that. The imagery in the book was well done too. The narration by Angie Hickman added to the book. She adds the right emotions and brings the characters to life with her voice. Thank you #NetGalley for this great listen.

One Poison Pie by Lynn Cahoon was my first novel by her. I have to say I really enjoyed it! I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook and found myself looking for excuses to go somewhere so that I could listen to it uninterrupted! One Poison Pie is about Mia, who moves to Magic Springs where her grandma is so that she can start over after a nasty break up. She buys an old school to turn it into a catering business and a cooking school. However, when her very first client ends up dead before she can cater the event, the local community looks at her in suspicion. With the help of her magical grandmother, the cute (and also magical) grocery store owner, and her chef assistant in training, Mia must figure out what happened so all of her dreams don't crumble to the ground. The story is a mix of magic, fun, suspense, and honesty all rolled into one. I honestly didn't know who the killer was until the end. I kept going over names in my head of who I thought it could be and I was wrong each time. And, the book ends with a new mystery fast approaching, so there will be more magic in the future.
Thanks to #NetGalley for the chance to listen to the book. The narrator also did a good job!

One Poison Pie is the first book in a new paranormal cozy mystery series by the author Lynn Cahoon.

Mia Malone a hearth/kitchen witch moves back to grandmother's town of Magic Springs in Idaho to start over after she finds herself dumped and her cooking business taken over by her ex-fiance. Hoping to impress everyone in town with her new gourmet food delivery business with recipes with her magic touch, her first catering job turns deadly when the client Adele is found stabbed to death with one of Mia's knife making her a prime suspect. Along the way, Mia comes to realise that she and her grandmother are not the only witches in Magic Springs, with a lot of residents belonging to different witch/warlords covens. There was not much magic in this book and I hope that it will be a bigger aspect in the upcoming books.

I received the audio version of this book and had a pleasant time listening to it. The narrator Angie Hickman's voice was clear and it was easy for me to follow the story.

My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher Tantor Audio and the author for the audio Arc of the book. The audiobook was released on 26th January 2021.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐✨💫

The characters were delightful and the story was fast-paced. I thought the narrator was just OK and didn't really enjoy all of her voices, one character, in particular, was especially grating. While I enjoyed most of the story, I do wish the magic aspect was more prominent. I felt that was too much in the background and often forgot they are witches.

I love finding new cozy mysteries that I can dig into especially if they are part of a series. Lynn Cahoon and her new Kitchen Witch series is just that. Mia Malone may be a kitchen witch but she is also someone who values family and hard work. She lives in Magic Springs Idaho and is starting her own business. I love the relationship with her Gran. I listened to the audiobook as a NetGalley ARC and halfway through I was trying to find out when the next book would be available. Lucky me this year so I will be watching!! Mia finds herself on the wrong side of a murder investigation but she has support from so many people around her. I love the relationships and how I just felt like a part of this town. So glad I was able to listen to this. Great new cozy series.

This book initially appealed to me because of the paranormal theme and I thought getting in on a series from the get go would be perfect. I found I struggled to really care about anything that happened. The kitchen witch topics were very light fare and I never knew which were the good guy's out of the myriad of male characters. The female lead made choices that seemed glaringly unsound. But it did have some good elements which encouraged me to finish the book. The mystery theme was well done and I personally didn't predict where the story would lead. All in all the story was enough to lead me to the finish and likely will try book two when published.

After listening to and loving another cozy mystery a couple of days ago (Dead and Breakfast), I was excited to dive into this one. Unfortunately, I quickly found out that I wasn't as interested and hooked by this one. If you want me to love your book, the beginning need to hook me and to keep my attention. I was immediately connected to the characters in the book I mentioned but One Poison Pie just didn't work for me sadly. I had a hard time focusing on what was going on because of it. It's a bit disappointing because it had a cute cover and an interesting premise. I'm not giving up on cozy mysteries as a whole though. Some will work for me and others won't. That's the reading experience in a nutshell. I saw plenty of positive reviews about this book so don't let my experience from stopping you to get this book if you think you'll love it!

(Thank you for letting me read and review an ARC via Netgalley)

I absolutely adored this cozy mystery! The characters were fantastic, and Cahoon did an excellent job of weaving reality and magic together effortlessly. I cannot wait for book two! The audiobook was great. The narrator did an excellent job, and I was able to follow along easily and differentiate between the characters and their dialogue.

I really loved this book. I really was surprised by it. Was thinking it would be more casting spells type but was pleasantly surprised by it. I would love to read more by this author

Dumped, unemployed, & homeless, what is a kitchen witch to do but return home and open a cooking school/catering business? But Mia’s fresh start is complicated when her first customer ends up dead.

This was a cute and light story. It had a lot of things I like in cozy mysteries. Food, magic, intergenerational friendships. Mia and Christina had a great mentoring friendship going, and the friendship between Mia and her grandmother reminded me of my own.

The women were fun and unique, but none of the men characters really clicked with me. We get broad strokes for the community of Magic Springs, but everything was a little shallow. I would have liked more depth on the magic especially. There was not nearly as much use of magic in this as I expected from the summary.

The narrator was a perfect fit for a sweet. mystery

A fun book, a bit predictable but that didn’t take anything of the joy for me.
The characters were interesting and it was fun to get to know Magic Springs.
I'm looking forward to book 2 in the series.
