Thank you RB Media, Netgalley, and Kelly Simmons for this audio book in exchange for an honest review. Loved the narrators. The storyline is captivating and keeps you peaked until the very end. 🌟🌟🌟🌟1/2 stars rounded to five for Goodreads. |
Not My Boy by Kelly Simmons is a suspenseful book with family drama. After her divorce, Hannah moves next door to her sister, Hillary. Hannah’s eleven year old son, Miles, has some secrets only his parents know about. A six year old girl goes missing and it is suspected that someone in the neighborhood is to blame. Miles is the original suspect until evidence is found turning Hannah’s husband into a suspect. The sisters are trying to protect their families which turn them against each other. Their mother also has to pick a side. Who is responsible for the missing girl? What will happen to this family? I liked how Not My Boy was a mix of suspenseful thriller and family drama. The evidence kept changing the primary suspect. I could not figure out who took the missing girl. The sisters turn against each other was an interesting addition to the story. The characters are all interesting and all trying to protect those they care about most. However, this leads to them turning against someone in their family. Not My Boy is an interesting story I would recommend to thriller fans. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Morgan Hallett and Suzanne Toren. They both did a good job narrated and their voices fit well with the story. Based on the story I think reading this would be as enjoyable as listening to it. Thank you Recorded Books/RB Media and NetGalley for Not My Boy. |

Thank you netGalley for this advanced copy. The description sounded really good. The beginning was really good, but it drug out too much in the middle. Just wasn't for me. |
Hannah has moved in next door to her sister, hoping family and the nice neighborhood will help both Hannah and her son start over. Things go south quickly when her son is suspected in the disappearance of a local girl. Hannah will do anything to save her life, even if it means destroying her sister. If you liked Defending Jacob, you’ll love this twisted story of motherly love. |
The blurb from NOT MY BOY sounded so interesting, but I just didn't relate to this book. The characters lacked depth and felt flat. The f*bombs were unnecessary. The storyline/plot was drawn out and anti-climatic. Sorry, I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn't work for me. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, for an audio ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. 1.5 STARS rounded up. |
So I just finished this book, and I have no idea what really happened. I thought it was going to be a story which hooked me, but I ended up getting a little spacey during the end. It was an okay story, but when all of the reveals came at the end, I did not care as much as I thought. The narration is well done. The two narrators are telling the story in a way which makes the reader wonder what will happen and what the connections are. This is a plus for the story. However, it was hard to connect to some of the story so I was bored towards the end of the book. What I know about this book... there are two sisters... a missing girl... a son who does not quite fit in. There is also a grandma. They are all trying to find out what happened to this missing girl and who may have any type of connections to the child. There are all side plots and such I had a difficult time to keep up with what was going on. I think this book would work well for those who want a lighter thriller that is easy to follow. This book was just not right for me. Still, I would try more from this author and listen to other books done by these narrators. A huge thank you to NetGalley and Recorded Books for the ALC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
This is my first book with this author, I will be looking at her other books. .I like how you get the perspective from both the boys mother and grandmother. A little girl goes missing in a well to do neighborhood and the same day her body is found. Everyone is considered a suspect til they begin to all suspect the little boy(Miles) that is new to the neighborhood. Thank you #NotMyBoy #NetGalley for letting me read this. |
