The Journalist by R.N. Crane Independently Published Mystery & Thrillers Pub Date 14 Aug 2020 I am reviewing a copy of The Journalist through Independently Published and Netgalley: Favor Bosworth is a reporter for the Baltimore Sun Paper and is investigating the murders in the Loch Raven reservoir and the Las Vegas wash feeding Lake Mead. The girls who were murdered went to Law School at UNLV along with Dan Brock who left school early to pursue a career in investing. Favor interviewed many of the girls classmates, but it is only a few of them that seem to have the means, opportunity, and motive for murder. Favor has also been asked to evaluate Brock Investments for reporting false investment return. She is assisted by two private investigators Flint Osborne and Lauren Scott. The three are led are led around Big Bear Lake, and through Long Beach, and Orange County looking for evidence. In the bed Favor discovers no one is who they say they are. If you are looking for an intriguing read, that’s filled with adventure and suspense, I recommend The Journalist. I give the Journalist four out of five stars! Happy Reading! |
This book was really a short story that was too rushed. It needs to be fleshed out more. The characters could be more developed. |
This book by RN was written well. The characters were fun to grow with. The setting was great. When I first seen this book I wanted so I was thriller when the pubs accepted. Favor Bosworth is a reporter in Baltimore. Trying to u cover a universitys murdered girls. This story was fast paced. Kept me pretty interested throughout the whole read. |
This book is about a reporter, Favor who is tasked with helping undercover truths about two murders. Overall, I enjoyed this read. It was fast and entertaining, with a good storyline. Parts of the story and the writing were so clear and descriptive and I really enjoyed that. Other parts of the writing felt jerky and quickly written. Overall, I enjoyed this read. I would reccomend. Many thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book. I read and reviewed this voluntarily and opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own. |
Disclaimer: I got this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is perfect for anyone who's a fan of mysteries. I got a B.A. in Journalism and I loved reading about a female journalist covering investigations. There are a lot of twists and turns so it's the perfect book for fans of mysteries/nancy drew esque books. |
I really try to love every book that I read. I really do. But I could not connect to this book at all. Honestly, it read really choppy and disjointed. The main character, Favor is likable enough, but because of how the book is written, we only get to know her superficially. Also, the timeline is weird – I could never figure out if days were passing or weeks…but maybe that was just me. I did like some parts of the plot line – it kept me engaged and reading, but the ending where the villain is quite literally unmasked felt like a joke. 2 stars from me. |
Fab cover? Check. Short and sweet? 130 pages plus change. Cool character with cool name? Oh yeah. Female journalist named Favor. I dig. Tense? Yes and yes. Favor investigates mirrored murders on the East and West coasts, plus investment fraud as murky as a Hitchcock flick. One wild ride? “Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!” 4 of 5 Stars Pub Date 14 Aug 2020 #TheJournalist #NetGalley Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. |
Date reviewed/posted: January 13, 2021 Publication date: out - August 14, 2020 When life for the entire galaxy and planet has turned on its end, you are continuing to #maskup and #lockdown to be in #COVID19 #socialisolation as the #secondwave is upon us, AND the worst sciatica attack in your life means you MIGHT sleep 3 hours a night, superspeed readers like me can read 250+ pages/hour, so yes, I have read the book … and many more today. I requested and received a temporary digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review. From the publisher, as I do not repeat the contents or story of books in reviews, I let them do it as they do it better than I do 😸. (Oh, I so want to spellcheck her name to Favour!) This is a very quick, very crime noire kind of book - great characters, great story. I will recommend it to lovers of the genre and to people who are looking for a new author to try out. Well written and easy to read - I hope that favour favours Favor and there are more books about her! As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I simply adore emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/snowflakes / literally-like-overusers etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🔪🔪🔪🔪 |
Investigative Reporter Favor Bosworth is looking at a woman lying on the ground with a knife stuck in her chest. The police can't give her much information, but her investigation turns up a similar murder in Las Vegas. After speaking to her friend, who is a private investigator, they join forces to see what they can find. The only link they discover is that both women attended the same college, along with Dan Brock, a man who knew the women and disliked them for one reason or another. Brock has since disappeared. Favor is then tasked to evaluate Brock Investments for reporting false investment returns. Any connection to the murders? Favor is not surprised that no one seems to be who they appear to be. And one of them now has a target on Favor's back. This is a very short story (less than 150 pages) written by a new author to me, so had no expectations. The plot was a good one, but I felt it was muddied by so many characters that I felt no connection to. The writing felt a little stilted .. more like I was being told what had happened, rather than what was happening in the present. Some of the conversations were less than credible. The romance seemed to be an afterthought. Many thanks to the author / RNC Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this mystery.
