“Practicing Patience” follows Gabe as he encounters situations in everyday life that require patience. Written from his perspective, it explores his feelings and reactions to the circumstances around him. The talking shoes are a cute guiding force for Gabe, and easy for readers to relate too. Good story for energetic kids who need just a little reminder to relax and wait their turn.

I would say this book is suitable for kids 8+. The story is a bit stilted and wordy, but the message is still positive. I liked the tips at the end for helping children deal with impatience. Also appreciate the diversity of children in the illustrations.

Thank you to NetGalley, Jennifer Law (author) and Brian Martin (illustrator) for a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cute concept, but a little wordy for my liking. My son thought it was funny and I love the concept it was teaching

I read this book with my daughter and she really enjoyed it.

She liked the story and it did good for her even at a young age to learn a little about patience as she really does not like to wait.

I liked the story as a parent and how it shows to calm down and try not to get upset about a situation and that waiting is good and you will get your own turn.

It is 4 stars from me this one – highly recommended!

My kids could use a good dose of patience. When they want something, the pestering is out of control. When I read the synopsis for this book, I thought it could be a great tool to introduce to them. In reading through it, my kids did not connect to it at all. The story was too long for them, and while the shoes talking made them laugh (I gave each shoe a different voice), they weren't listening to the action plan because of how vague it was. Patience is hard to teach, but this book focuses more on the fidgety aspect of being impatient.

I asked my daughter if she liked it, and she said no. She said she felt like she was being preached to. This may work with older children.

The illustrations in the story were great and kept my 2 yo's attention.

Practicing Patience by Jennifer Law tells the story of a boy named Gabe who has difficulty being patient. Gabe demonstrated impatience throughout the school day. His shoes, Lefty and Lacey teach Gabe the magic of patience with tips such as relaxing his body, paying attention, staying calm, and positive thinking. The book also includes a page of tips for parent and educators. The illustrations by Brian Martin are adorable and I think children will enjoy looking at the pages. This would be perfect for parents and teachers to share with young children. It would also be a useful tool for special education teachers. This is another excellent book from Boys Town Press and another book that I will be adding to my social skills curriculum and my classroom library.

I don’t know if I’m not a patient enough person, but this book was too long and did not keep my interest. I don’t think it would keep the interest of impatient kids. The different colored font was distracting on each page too. I could see kids getting easily distracted with this book.
