Another page turner from Jane Cory. Sarah is a young artist just about managing to keep afloat when she meets Tom. He is a complete opposite to her, life follows routines and he works as an actuary. Somehow they fall for each other, although both have their reservations about how well they match up. After a long journey they have a baby boy, Freddie. Life becomes more complicated than they imagine and both have secrets from each other, and so their stories unfold. I read this in a couple of days and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was a decent read on the whole, told from past and present perspectives. The cast of characters are a complex bunch with plenty of secrets between them to keep a reader on their toes.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher.   I have liked everything this author has written and this was no exception.   Great storyline and great characters and a page turner to the end.

Oh my Jane Corry, you have shredded my heart and stolen my Sunday!

Wow, yet another belter from this talented author. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would do exactly the same and my heart aches for poor Freddie and poor Sarah.

I picked this book up on Sunday morning with the intention of reading 2 or 3 chapters as I had 'a lot to do' but I just couldn't put it down and sat and I read and I read and I read.

The Lies We Tell is a fabulous 'what would you do' and much like in previous books it touches on homelessness, prison and the coast - I love these little themes repeating.

This book is the perfect solution to a lockdown Sunday and I lived and loved every page.

Having read some of Janes books before and enjoyed them I was hoping I would enjoy this also. Sadly I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought i would. I felt the story was quite slow and a tad far fetched for me to enjoy it hence the 3 stars.

Whilst I enjoyed the book and the story itself I found I could not warm to some of the characters in it. They seemed to lack depth and although I tried hard I did not feel much compassion for them. A lot of the problems were down to poor parenting and two characters who had experienced this to be together was just too much. As a mother myself I do agree we would do anything for our children but I am not sure that I would protect my child to the extent that Sarah did but of course if you have not been in the position she found herself in you cannot really imagine what you would do.
I love Jane Corry books and she always produces very readable books and this certainly did that. Look forward to more.

Told by two narrators, this book tells the story of a marriage between two people who each have much to hide.  I have to say that I found it a bit slow and repetitive, and felt like too much of the book was spent waiting for the ‘real’ secrets to emerge, and too full of ‘If only that was everything’ references. Readable but not gripping.

Disappointing and far fetched. In spite of a good start, it felt like things kept on being added to give the story sense and some kind of direction. A passable read.

Really enjoyed this book, the characters raised so many questions and I felt I was doubting them all at different points working out which direction the story was going in

Having read All of Janes previous books I was looking forward to this, it didn't disappoint, brilliant characters, and what a storyline, a huge moral dilemma that certainly makes you think. I'd love to see a continuation as I want to know more

What an addictive read! Extremely clever storytelling with terrific pace and real emotional depth too. I loved it, really couldn’t put it down. A real mother’s read

heart stopping...what would you do to save your child? The gut reaction of a mother leads the story from a crisis point through a gamut of emotions, decisions made quickly and perhaps poorly and lives less lived as a result. 
The truth, when it comes to bear, makes those decisions seem so wrong, so stupid but I suspect in the same situation the mother would do it all over again.
fast and tense and leaves you a bit emotionally wrung out at the end!

I’ve loved this authors previous books so when I was invited by the publisher to read her newest I jumped at the chance. 

The pace in this book is steady and  spans over three different timelines. 

I liked the snippets in italics as they gave intrigue to the story. I wasn’t sure who it was portraying but worked well and kept me reading. 

The characters were all well formed and I felt both anger and sympathy toward them. The relationship between Tom and Sarah was fraught with disasters but still, I wanted things to turn out well.  

The later years I loved and wanted more of the relationships there. I’d love there to be a follow up but know thats unlikely. 

Overall a great novel!

Sarah and Tom are panicked when their 15 year old son, Freddie comes home after a late night saying he has killed someone. Already they have a troubled marriage and both are hiding secrets in their past. Sarah dotes on her only son and cannot bear to see him locked up. So they do what any normal parents do or do they?? The story is told in points of view and goes back to when Tom first met Sarah and the early lies in their marriage. A brilliant story and it draws you into this family drama. A must read.

The book opens well with Freddie at 16 doing a deed that will change Sarah & Tom's life forever. The book then takes you back to how Sarah & Tom meet and the journey until Freddie is 16.
With both their pasts haunting them they both made individual choices and these determine how their lives will move forward, little did they know how these choices would cause their lives to unravel and change forever.

Freddie a fifteen year old boy comes home in the early hours of the morning and confesses to his parents that he has just killed someone.
Sarah his mother wants to protect him, Tom his father wants to inform the police.
The story then jumps back to how the parents met and their relationship.
I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the authors previous books.

This was a really absorbing read , I love Jane Corry and this certainly didn't disappoint . Sarah is Married to Tom , they are so different and really have only stayed together because of their son Freddie who is acting up .
One night he comes home devastated and shares a secret that will have huge ramifications for all . I liked the story told in the past about how Tom and Sarah first meet and get together , both have secrets in their past that they would rather the other didn't know and all this adds to the tension slowly building in their marriage . 
Yet another great , dramatic read and I can't wait for the next

This is the 3rd book I have read by this author having thoroughly enjoyed her previous books.  I tend to read horror, mystery and psychological thrillers so this author is completely off the radar for me.  Her books always revolve around the same format, dipping in and out of current day and the past leading to the big conclusion.  The lead character tends to be a strong female character and this book is no different.  I feel her books are about relationships and social interactions which is as I said so not my cup of tea, however, having said that her books and style of story telling seem to draw me in to the point I find myself binge reading to finish the book and 'see what the outcome is'..  I think this is another cracker of a book and am certain that I will read any future books she brings out.  Another great story!

Wow! How far would you go to protect your son, would you hand him.in if he came home and told you be murdered someone? This is the choice Sarah and Tom have to make when their son Freddie comes home one night and tells them this. Their marriage is already in trouble they are like chalk and cheese, why did they ever get married? Will they see eye to eye on this or have different views as usual.

What do they have to hide in their pasts that they have kept secret from each other and buried for so long it's hard for them to tell each other, could it have an effect on the decisions they choose to make about Freddie?

Having read novels from Jane before this one didn't disappoint loved it. Will be recommending to family and friends. Keep them coming Jane love your style of writing.

This is the story of one mother's love for only son Freddie and that she will do anything for him as her own upbringing was harsh and Sarah in her youth had done some terrible things including prison. 
They have a unique bond that husband Tom can't seem to break through,  it has taken them years and heartache to conceive Freddie and Sarah will do anything to protect her son.
