Exactly what it says on the tin. Police procedural with plot twists and suspense.

It was a good read but as the series goes on, it starts to become a bit predictable.

I like Gina’s character. It was nice not to have her completely haunted by her past throughout the book.

An easy, well-written read though

DI Harte seems to have her hands full with this one. She and PC Wyre have just returned from an uneventful weekend, other than PC Wyre having undergone a relationship breakup. This tale centers around a dating app – AppyDater. There are crimes, there are smiley faces given through the app, there are personal relationships that are being looked at, there are trying to be helpful but not helpful young adults.
There is also a definite vibe to this tale … and not in a good way. I liked that aspect of this particular read. I mean … black boots suddenly appearing when a character least expects them … someone lurking in the bushes just out of sight, or was there? Red herrings all throughout, making me think the whodunnit was X and then thinking it was Y. I was off base in my thinking of who did it.
This is book eight in this 17-book (so far) series. My first in this series. For you series readers, I suspect these can all be read as standalones as this one was, with everything tied up in the end … well, other than DI Harte’s personal relationship with Briggs.

What can I say, Carla Kovach's Gina Harte is my hero - I love the character, she is a flawed yet courageous detective who will not give up - A fab read!

Another absolutely brilliant thriller from Kovach. This had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, wondering who the murderer was. And when someone closer to DI Harte goes missing the race is well and truly on. I had no clue whether they would save the missing person or not! This was a fantastic book and I can't wait to read more from the author.

I see what everyone is saying this was an awesome thriller but I need to start from the beginning I feel like. Will definitely grab the first ones!

I love this series and the latest instalment did not disappoint, this author knows how to write a great thriller that keeps you gripped and characters you can really engage with, with some great twists along the way

A good read but I think it's best to have read the previous books in the series to fully appreciate it. Unfortunately for me I haven't read any others in the series so felt like there was gaps.

I adore this series and this is another intriguing case for Gina. It doesn't disappoint. Gripping and lots of tension, with the usual twists to keep you guessing. Can't wait for the next case!

I wanted to read this but realized that it was book 8 in a series and I was not able to catch up on. I do plan on setting time aside to read the whole series though.

THE BROKEN ONES is the Eighth crime thriller novel in the Detective Gina Harte Series, by author Carla Kovach. Having enjoyed the previous novels in the series, I move on to book 8. The story is set in Worcestershire England.

Even though this novel worked well as a stand-alone, I would recommend other readers to read the previous books as they will be given background information on the characters in this book. A solid police procedural with engaging characters.

In this novel, Gina and team are investigating the murder of a young woman named Amber Slater who never showed up for a date with someone she met on the internet. She never returns home and is never seen again.

After further investigation, many possible culprits are discovered and they have to move quickly before another girl is killed.

Amber was last seen by her housemate. He watched her leave. He listened to her phone conversation with her friend before she left. He knows more than anyone…

Amber was very popular at university, but too close to her tutor. Maybe his wife found out about their relationship. She also never showed up at the restaurant that night where she was supposed to eat.

She was found in a local park, with her lips glued shut. After further investigation, it seems that the girl simply vanished on her way to catch her bus. And when another woman goes missing, it’s a race against time to catch the culprit.

Another great read in the series.

Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for my digital copy.

Hard to believe we are now onto Book No. 8 in the Det Gina Harte series… and BOOM… Carla Kovach does it again, this was another edge of your seat read, another imaginative storyline with plenty of twist and turns, suspects to beat the band and head spinning trying to figure it all out, the big reveal is only when Kovach is good and ready, I loved the pov from the killer himself which put a nice spin on it if you can use “nice” in that context! Thoroughly enjoyed it as I always do from the first to the turn of the last page, I’m left wanting more….

Lots of suspense in this book. It was very fast paced and had a great storyline. This book is number 8 in the series but dont worry each book has its own storyline. It had me guessing right until the end.

Okay, I loved this. I was so completely into the mystery of this and was incredibly worried about our characters.

The author kept me guessing throughout the book and I was totally turned in the wrong direction more than once - I loved being surprised.

Definitely a good read and I'll happily read the author again in the future!

I started this book and then realised it was a series.
I actually can not wait to read this from the beginning I really enjoyed this book and the characters.
The plot was good and the investigation kept you guessing and who it could be.
I love it when you are immediately gripped from the first page in you know it’s a good sign of a crime writer.

These books keep getting better. Gina Harte has grown on me and I’m beginning to really like her as a detective. This investigation starts off when a young university student is found murdered. As things take off we get glimpses into the mind of the murderer. As another student is attacked and one of Gina’s own goes missing, the adrenaline revs up as time ticks on. The race is on to solve this before someone else is murdered. Fast paced and red herrings will keep you invested until the end.

The Broken Ones by Carla Kovach is the 8th book in the Detective Gina Harte series. This is a must read and has been one of the best series in the mystery/thriller genre. I have been hooked from the very first book. Carla's books, just get better and you will be hooked within the first few pages.

This book was thrilling and a roller coaster of ups and downs and twists and turns. throughout and I highly recommend this series, Just Brilliant!

Big thank-you to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

#TheBrokenOnes #NetGalley Love this series! This is book 8 in the series and can certainly be read as a standalone but it does enhance the reading if you know more of the back story of the main characters. Love the character of Gina and her complex relationships with Briggs and her daughter and her past secrets. The crime element of the book was fast paced and filled with twists and turns and plenty of action - just the way I like them! A great read and just about to start book 9 in the series!!

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book which is another amazing story.
I started reading the Detective Gina Harte series from book 4 and am so glad I did. I will eventually pick up on 1 to 3.
I have to say Gina Harte is one of my favorite fictional detectives and Carla Kovach is now one of my favourite authors.

Another great read and this time is a creepy stalker story and terrifying at times and I am still looking over my shoulder. Fast paced, and could be read as a stand-alone.

Love this series and author x

Gina Hart was one of the best main character in a police procedural and her author Carla Kovach made her so likable.

This one had student disappearing to meet someone from dating app and later a body was found. Gina and her team was called.

There were many twists and turns but one thing I found creepy was that this had the killer's POV.

The team worked like a well oiled machine with Gina in the lead.

Overall a solid gripping police procedural with some goosebumps raising scenes.
