A twist on the fairy tales of princesses kissing frogs and turning them into princes. In this story, the frog is searching for a princess to kiss him so he can be a prince. Beautiful illustrations and such a sweet ending! |
Thanks to Clavis Publishing + NetGalley for the advance review copy of "Theo's Princess" by Ellen DeLange, illustrated by Monty Lee. A super fun twist on the classic tale of 'Princess and the Frog' in which the Frog goes searching for a princess so that he can be turned into a prince and have his dream come true. After much searching he realizes you don't need to be royalty to be happy or in love. Sweet illustrations, fun storyline, though I do wish it had a bit more humor in it. |
ARC kindly received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This was a super sweet book that reversed the traditional tale of the princess and the frog. It was a tale of acceptance and love, then illustrations were cute, and the story flowed nicely. I just wish there was a bit more humour injected into it, I feel like this could have elevated it from being ‘yeah this would be nice to share with my class’ to ‘this is a book I will be teaching for again and again’. Overall I would say 3.5/5 |
A cute twist on the princess and the frog story. The illustrations are wonderful and whimsical. A fun fairytale story! Thank you Clavis Publishing and NetGalley for providing this ARC. |
The classic frog and the prince but with a twist. Theo the frog is looking for a princess to turn him into a prince. With colorful illustrations, Theo's adventures are funny and winsome. Theo looks far and wide and meets all kinds of characters. The question will be- will a princess want to kiss him. Looking for a princess is hard work. The chapter book is for young readers that like to laugh and a happy ending. A special thank you to Clavis Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review. |

Thanks NetGalley for the arc! My toddler really enjoyed the story and has asked to read it several times. We look forward to having our own copy soon! |
Theo's Princess by Ellen DeLange You have to love a children's book that begins with "Once upon a time..." In this fairy tale twist Theo the frog dreams of becoming a prince. He's heard he can do this by receiving a kiss from a princess. When he cannot find a princess around his village he decides to get creative and advertise for one. Will his princess show up at his meeting place? I loved the illustrations in this book. The cute spin on a classic was a fun read. I would recommend this for kids 4 and up, younger if they have a longer attention span. #ClavisPublishing #NetGalley #frogs #princess #prince #kissthefrog #EllenDeLange #TheosPrincess #June2021 #childrensbook #bookstagram #bookreview #bookreviewer #fairytale #classicstories |

A cute twist on the Frog Prince told from the perspective of the frog. This was well-written with beautiful illustrations and my girls loved it, especially my four year old. I thought it had a good message and I loved hearing about Theo’s adventure to find his princess. |
Theo the frog dreams of one day becoming a prince. He knows from the fairytale that he needs the kiss of a princess, so he embarks on a mission to find one. When he cannot find a princess, he puts up posters, and several princesses show up for the task of kissing the would-be prince. But was the fairytale right? Can a princess's kiss really do the job? The illustrations in this book appear to be a combination of colored pencil and collage. Theo's expressions are really cute. My favorite part of each image is the red umbrella with the bird pommel. You can also see Sofia hiding in the images toward the end. The story is a cute one, and there is a clear lesson learned at the end. I received a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Clavis Publishing. |

This picture book by Ellen DeLange is a cute story about a young frog who desperately wishes he was a prince. He searches high and low. Looking and looking for a princess that will give him a kiss and turn him into a prince. However, in the end Theo learns that sometimes the most important princess of all is the one that doesn't wear a gold crown or fancy gowns. Sometimes the only "princess" you need in your life is the one that cares for you and makes you feel like you're the only one in the room. This was a fun book to read in February. Personally, picture books about romantic love aren't books I typically read to younger readers. But I enjoyed the illustrations and the message that sometimes the person we need is different from the person that we want. |
Theodore Cornelius Baffelus III is a frog with big dreams. After all, if one has such an important name shouldn't their happily ever after be just as grand? In Ellen DeLanges' charming take on a classic fairytale, Theo's Princess is sure to engage all your little readers who have big dreams. Fantastically illustrated and beautifully told, this is a wonderful example of taking a traditional idea and giving it an original spin. |
A twist on the princess and the frog story, this time it's a frog looking for a princess. He as a result may not turn into a prince, but he does figure out what true love is. I loved the illustrations and the quirky little frogs. |

This is such a cute take on the classic Grimm story! A frog who dreams of being a prince seeks out a princess to give kiss him. The artwork is adorable, too. A great little tale overall. |
Theo's Princess was PRECIOUS! I loved every page of this story. It was really fun to see a twist on the Princess and the Frog with a frog wanting to find a princess to become a prince. It was really sweet and made me smile throughout the entire book. The art was stunning. The illustrations reminded me of old fairy tales which perfectly complimented the story. I fell in love with this book, and will honestly be buying a copy for myself when it's released. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC! |
One of the best children's books I've read in a long time. Written in a beautiful, melodic language, beautifully illustrated. The story is extremely charming, it touches adults and the children will be delighted as well. The story of a frog prince looking for his princess and a change of his fate. And as it happens in fairy tales, his story is both funny and touching. Love it. |
Following Theo on his journey to becoming a Prince was a fun and cute read. The pictures were also very cute and detailed. As a parent, this book has a good ending with a good message and a storyline that I could appreciate. Along the same lines, being the mother to twin four-year-old boys I know this is something they would enjoy as well which means everyone would win by reading this book. |
