I tried multiple times to get into this one. I found that by almost a quarter in, nothing had really happened, including establishing characters I cared about and wanted to root for.

This was a new-to-me author and I was really excited about reading it after reading the blurb. It was a second chance romance that sounded great, but I was a little disappointed after I started reading. The players had nicknames and throughout the book, the author went back and forth between their real names and their nicknames. It got very confusing keeping all the characters straight without them being consistent. I did not really care for Dante’s character. He seemed very conceited, and he did not seem to learn from his previous mistakes. Lily was very forgiving of Dante even after he dumped her the second time. I was glad to see them finally clear up all the misunderstandings between themselves. Then they realized they needed to take things slowly and commit to making time for each other.

Hot on the Ice is a second chance sports romance with definitely a bit of a challenge to overcome. It was fast read, a sweet book with two likeable characters. There was a lot of specific details about hockey and plays, you can tell that the author is a fan. Enjoyable and fun summer read.

This hockey romance is all about overcoming the past, taking a leap of faith for a second chance and discovering that love is sweeter the second time around.

This romance was unfortunately not for me.
It included tropes I really don’t enjoy including cheating and while I like second chance romances I want that relationship to feel redeemable and this one unfortunately didn’t.
Usually I’m a huge fan of cocky sports romance love interests but Dante just wasn’t for me and for that reason I wasn’t rooting for them to be together.
It was a quick read but not to my taste.

This was a good hockey romance. Just the right amount of heat to melt the ice. Any fan of hockey romance would enjoy this book.

A great read in a hurry. Easy to understand storyline with wonderful characters. From the main characters to all the friends and family. The insight of the old relationship with the trails of the new relationship. Having the main characters realize the love they have for each other was worth trying to be together again.

I didn't care for this title. It just didn't capture my interest or drag me into it's world. I was just bored at times and I didn't fall in love with the characters. It just ended up being a really tough read.

I love this cover. I love sports romance and hockey is my favorite, but I found the story to be lacking.
If the characters would just communicate 90% of the problems could have been avoided, so I found the lack of communication to be annoying. I found I was not overly attached to any of the characters.

I didn't love it, but I also didn't hate it... it was okay. I will give Anna Sugden's work another chance because I felt like this could have been a good novel.

Dante was a hockey player. He could give up anything for his career. He stumbled upon the girl he fell in love with almost six years ago and also cheated on her, Lily. But now he wanted to make amends with her and took the first opportunity to do so. He helped Lily's business by being an investor as she was going through some financial problems with her business. Then soon enough they got back together after sharing their past issues. But Dante and Lily's relationship again got tested because of Dante's one night stand. But then again got back together. Happy Ending. Yay! Not🙄
I didn't really care about this book to be honest. I'm glad the torture was over. I would've like it if there was no cheating or trust issues between the main characters. This book's definitely not a safe read.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to leave an honest review. This is the first book I have ever read by Anna Sugden but I love hockey romances so took a chance. Overall Anna has a really great writing style with no major gaps in timeline or jumping around,. The premise of the book was really good also. Overall though I thought the book was a little slow and too drawn out.

This book follows LIly, a chocolatier, and Dante, a professional hockey player. Dante and Lily have a past from 6 years prior where they semi "dated" for a little while. Then Dante intentionally messed it up because of reasons from his past. When they meet again and Lily needs an investor for her new shop, Dante is one of her options. She isn't sure if she can trust him however or if they can just remain business associates or even friends. Their chemistry is too explosive. Enter a crazy stalker fan who won't take no for an answer and targets Lily to get back at Dante and thinks get crazy.

Overall, a very good premise for the book. A couple of gaps in timeline but nothing you can't follow. I just personally felt the book was a little slow.

I love a great sports romance and Anna Sugden delivered a great sports romance that made this reader a happy camper. I couldn’t help but love Lily & Dante’s story.

Hot On the Ice is overall a cute story about second chances... and chocolates... and hockey players! So, you know, not a bad way to spend some time.

Lily Eddison is building her chocolate business. Her business partner and BFF are finally getting some traction in their business. At a promotional event scheduled by another friend, Lily gets partnered with none other than her old flame, Dante. It's been quite a few years since he crashed and burned their relationship into the ground but boy does those flames still burn between them.

Dante “Fireman” Taylor met Lily many moons ago and they hit it off- big time! But Dante has had it bashed into his head by his father that he could have the hockey career or her could have relationships but he couldn't have both. So, he crashed and burned what was promising to be a very good thing and has kept all his flings shallow and short-term. The problem is the one girl that really connected with him so many years ago, has popped back up in his life and they keep running into each other. Dante doesn't know much about feelings and relationships but he does know that no one has made him feel like this since he last met her and he's pretty sure that there probably won't be another chance to discover what it is between them. Now just to get Lily on board with his plan.

So, as I said, overall this is a pretty cute story about second chances... but I just really had a hard time connecting with the story. At times there was a slow burn second chance-y vibe but then, BAM! Insta-attraction and lust and some... ahem... action. Sigh, I just didn't FEEL the connection or chemistry between these two. For one, I pretty harsh on second chances because there is just so much drama and hurt feelings and everyone is on fire and the bridge is ashes, blah. Also, ya know cheating, to me, is pretty unforgivable. Now, I know there is a huge asterisk * here but... still. I just don't feel like Dante earned back my trust, so I have no idea how Lily could have. Again, I am a snarky salty b-face, so take with that what you may. And Dante was such a dude-bro at times. I was pretty done with him at a few points in the story. Lily, I'm glad you like him because Dante and I would have come to some very different conclusions!

Overall the story was cute, I could have done without the Ex/OW drama... but where would our plot devices come from? I loved all the side characters- albeit, in the beginning with all the nicknames I was a bit confused as to who what talking and to whom. I would like to see some of the continuations of our secondary characters in their own stories.

I love a man willing to earn his love's trust, and Hot on the Ice delivers! Solid second chance, romance, with a bit of a slow start but once you get going it was a fun read. I am no hockey fan...seriously I couldn't tell you a thing about the sport but that didn't stop me from enjoying this at all.

Lily, is a delightful leading lady to root for independent and sassy big fan of romance novels with women who aren't simpering fools.

Not perfect but definitely a sweet treat quick read!

I’m going to start by saying that I love sports romance, specially hockey, but there was something about this book that really didn’t do it for me. I stopped reading it a couple times, but I really did have a hard time getting into it.
The characters where ok, even the plot, I felt it was too long for the actual story.
There where many things that felt a bit force between the characters. Lily and Dante just needed a bit more. I did finish it, and like I said it was just ok.
It didn’t have that swoon factor for me, that good second chance feel.

I read an advance copy and this is my honest opinion.

Lily is a chocolate entrepreneur who has financial trouble due to her late landlord’s son kicking and her partner out. Dante is a famous hockey player who has the money Lily needs. However seven years before, Dante made a mistake that cost the two their relationship. Will Lily let him invest and perhaps pursue a relationship or will the ice start to melt underneath the two?

I can understand why some people DNF about 20% through, heck even I almost did. But I pushed through and it turned out a lot better than it started. The first 20% felt like a long introduction that would never end but as the book started to pick up it was like the writing became different and more interesting. I actually almost DNF on the first couple of pages because I had trouble understanding what was going on but now thinking back on the structure of it, this actually was really helpful to the development of the book.

I didn’t have any flaws with either character. I found them enjoyable and the attraction the two had was entertaining to read. However there was no huge flare that just made this book that made this book stand out. There was nothing wrong with it per say but nothing amazing about it. Hockey romances are my go to sports romance and this just fell a little short for me. However if you are a fan of these types, I think you should at least give it a try. I know I will be definity reading the sequel because of all the hints given for them and I can’t wait to read it.

Not really into it but a nice athlete romance sort of book.
I was not fan of the book bc it has a slow start but once you set a rhythm it actually gets good

I have to say i love hockey so when I saw this book I was automatically drawn to it; now here, it was one of the reasons why I didn't enjoy this book. The other reason was Dante (such a shame because I love that name) I didn't liked him. He kept screwing up and we had to forget and forgive just because he is "awesome" nah. Lily deserved better! And by the way, this is a second chance romance book but when the main guy cheates in the most public way and knowing this was going to humiliated our main girl, yeah for me he doesn’t deserve that second chance. For me is Adios, vamonos!
Also this felt like a companion novel/book. Like I should know a lot of this people so for a standalone that was confusing.
Other thing was, there were too many names and nicknames and I had to take notes of who was who and that took me out of the book several times.
Overall this was a bit of a disappointment considering I love sport romances.

Hot on the Ice is a cute story with a handful of disappointing moments, mostly relating to Dante's stupidity. It is also a somewhat unbalanced read.

Lily the chocolatier has a past with NHL superstar Dante, so when they're thrown together at a fan event vendor booth, she's icy and he's obsequious. They get over that hurdle a little too seamlessly, due in part to Dante's investment in her business; I felt Dante needed to grovel a little more. Or, more accurately, I felt Lily should have required more groveling.

In spite of Dante's penchant for making idiotic choices, I ended up rooting for him. I felt like he did a good job balancing the rigors of the hockey season with their blossoming relationship (well, until...). I also liked that Lily was equally busy and didn't let Dante set the pace of their reconciliation.

The plot itself has a lot of loose threads though. It's as if the author hadn't fully decided which thread would end up being the main conflict. Eli, Lily's stepcousin, could have made a decent villain, but in the end, he had very little to do with the story. Dante's past--which involved a lousy, woman-hating, hockey-playing father--could also have played a more obviously pivotal role. Indeed, it was his father's words that caused Dante to make his first (pre our story) screwup with Lily. Yet by the time the story begins for us, Dante seems to be over his dad's jaded advice. We never really learn how that happened, not is there ever a final showdown between Dante and his old man. Instead, we have a clever, crazed stalker who creates the main conflict. It works, but it seems like writing in this new, completely irredeemable villain was the easy way out.

Two industries are represented in this book: the fast-paced pro hockey world and the more intricate world of gourmet chocolatiering. The author knows her hockey, no doubt about it. I've been an AHL season ticket holder for years, so her talk about icing and high sticking and the biscuit were easy to follow. We even learn how hockey factored into Dante's childhood and how he skated into the pros.

However, the author's treatment of Lily's industry was fluffy at best, limited to edible glitter and chocolate molds. It was hard to see what made Lily so skilled at her job or why her chocolates were so much better than the rest. Aside from one comment about how Dante remembered how Lily liked to make chocolate, we have no idea how she started or how she learned her trade.

Perhaps a few less pages detailing every second of game play and/or a few more pages about the art and science of chocolate wouldn't have been remiss.

All that aside, the book was fast paced and entertaining. The characters were likeable (even stupid Dante), and the chance of more books in the series is promising. I don't know if this book is on my reread pile, but I would definitely pick up a sequel.
