This book fell a little flat for me. It seemed like it was trying to push the needle forward too much in just a short children's book. I agree that there needs to be more representation in books; but I'm not sure it needs to be as obvious. Either way, I can certainly agree with the author that having a female BIPOC vice-president is something to be celebrated. I did enjoy the illustrations, particularly that of the PS. at the end of the book. While I wouldn't recommend this book specifically to a young reader, I think it would fit well with all the the children's politics books plastered with pictures of old white men! |
Dear Mrs. President is a letter written by a little girl, Naya, to the future Mrs. President of the United States. It would be a perfect read aloud even for upper elementary students. It shares how the future Mrs. President is someone to look up too, inspires young girls just like Naya to be the best they can be and to keep aiming higher. There were a few sentences/phrases that I thought were a bit mature for the targeted audience, but overall it was such a cute book with perfect illustrations. Thank you NetGalley, Ana Maria Medici, and the publisher for the eARC in return for an honest review. "I thank you for teaching me that I, too, can be anything I choose." |
"I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own." This forward thinking book, is a letter written from a little girl to the first Mrs President. The book was hopeful and focused on positive qualities of a would be leader. |
