If Lydia Phillips thought that when she decided to take a break from her career as a successful journalist she would be leaving behind having to deal with the whiners, social climbers, criminals, and assorted other scoundrels one commonly encounters in her line of work, she was wrong.

One could even say dead wrong.

Her plan was to be a full-time Mom to her children for the summer. However, much to her eventual dismay, she finds herself taking on the thankless volunteer job as president of the board of her neighborhood’s Meadow Glen Swim and Tennis Club.

Whiners and pettiness abound among the club members. Lydia may not have the patience of Mother Teresa, but with all that she has to put up with from the members, she certainly comes close in that she herself hasn’t actually murdered any of them. Let me hasten to say that my description of the club members isn’t in any way meant to be critical of the author because these characters are exactly as they should be for purposes of the story. One of Mazerov’s strong points is her skill at creating characters who fit seamlessly into the plot and are perfect to carry it.

Lydia, by the way, is one of the best female characters I’ve come across in a long time. Another author might have made a character in Lydia’s situation into a handwringing whiner or shrewish screamer, but Mazerov chose a quite different direction and imbued Lydia with a sense of humor. Mazerov’s liberal use of humor throughout the book in general and including a delightful canine character reminiscent of my own beloved and much missed dogs earn her big bonus points from me. This is a truly great book. I am hoping for a sequel.

Fast entertaining summer read, perfect for the beach or poolside! Our main character, Lydia, has volunteered to be president of her community pool and tennis club for the summer but she finds out that volunteering can be a whole lot more complicated than working her job as a newspaper reporter. Filled with quirky characters, dark humor, scandal and even MURDER, will Lydia survive until Labor Day? Thank you Netgalley, Outskirts Press and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. Available now

What happens with a normal summer at the club turns out to be a summer of scandal and murder. Lydia Phillip's, dedicated wife and mother could never have guessed what she was in for when she decided to volunteer as the Club's President at the start of the summer. One shocking turn after another Lydia finds herself right in the middle of a murder investigation and she knows too much. What happens next could put both Lydia and the club at risk.

I enjoyed Summer Club by Katherine Mazerov. A great summer read for those weekends poolside! It started to feel a little long toward the middle, but definitely worth the read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me the chance to read this ARC.

I found the premise of this story intriguing, especially as a fellow tennis player and the ‘Desperate Housewives-esque’ plot line. However, as a reader I only felt a minimal amount of investment due to a lack hook to truly capture my attention. For this, I rate this story 2 stars.

“Summer Club has it all: a cast of colorful characters, wildly imaginative situations, sexcapades, danger, fraud and a twisty murder mystery — all wrapped into one. It’s also a wry send-up of a socioeconomic class apparently full of A-types who can’t simply relax and enjoy themselves. A perfect escape from the winter blahs, the novel will transport you to warmer days with equal doses of intrigue and humor.”

This sums the book up perfectly. This fun, quirky book makes you want to grab your drink and your book and sit by the pool.

I was expecting something very different than what was actually delivered. I expected more drama, more thriller aspects... would probably be a good beach read, not requiring a ton of brain power.

This story was intriguing although I found Lydia to be a bit whiny and though generous, with her time, quite selfish.

There are two divides of people who are members of Meadows Glen Country Club and that’s about the sum of the squabbles - class and classless. Those who have and those who want. Who’s who?

Follow Lydia as she tries to piece together what the dead body has to do with the club and who keeps letting her dog out?

A great beach read. Or maybe pool read …… Written in such a way that you feel along with the characters.

I love the cover, the title, and the synopsis, so I really wanted to love this book. I did not. The pacing was choppy—really slow at first, laggy in the middle, and then all of the action happened in the span of a few unbelievable chapters. The characters were well-developed, but hard at times to keep straight.

Summer Club sums up all of the things that people belonging to a country club gossip about! Lydia takes a job as president of Meadow Glen Swim and Tennis Club and almost immediately is regretting the choice. Constant complaints, shady encounters, problems with unruly children and a dead body are all part of this fun summer read! It gives you a chance to see how the other half lives and their ridiculous requests that need to be handled immediately. You have to check this out to see how this story unfolds!

A good, fun read which will keep you guessing without making you anxious. Over the top characters abound in this well paced romp.

Life should be easy for Lydia Phillips. The biggest squabble at Meadow Glen swim and tennis club is over the lights from local homeowners. Is that why people are being followed, a body appears floating in the pool. It’s enough to have her dust off her reporter’s notebook and dive in.

This book took me awhile to read. Fir the first half, I felt like I was reading an episode of Knots Landing ( old night time soap opera). I'm not saying it was biting, it just didn't drag me in. The second half had a little more action. All in all, not bad. Great writing, and pretty good characters.

I love this book - a quick, light read that had a little bit of everything: fun, colorful characters, a little drama and mystery, and don’t forget the sex! This was a fun, lighthearted “beach read” that provides an escape from the mundane stresses of everyday life.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my review.

Unfortunately, this book was only okay for me. I appreciated the ARC, but it never took off for me. Some may enjoy this beach read.

Highly entertaining. One minute I thought I had this one figured out, and the next minute I was giggling so loud my husband thought I was crazy! This story was exactly what I needed to escape the reality of real life at the moment!

This novel gave me the vibes of Desperate Housewives, in the best possible way! Romance and mysterious shenanigans set in the beautiful surroundings of a beautiful neighborhood.

I can think of no better beach read than Katherine Mazerov's latest - Summer Club. She has masterfully captured the joys and frustrations of HOAs and Club membership. With a few scandals and enough intrigue to keep me turning the pages, Summer Club is a quick, fast read that will have you immediately identifying people from your own life in the characters of Summer Club. I found the characters quirky and relatable.

Lydia is trying to run the Swim and Tennis Club-a body in the river, her house broken into, how will she keep the Board members happy? Solving this whodunnit mystery will keep you wondering, there’s a lot going on!
The storyline is great and this book, I thought,
should have been an amazing beach read, but for me it didn’t flow, there’s a lot of ‘over’ describing. This book fell flat, the slowness and repetitiveness of some prose was disappointing, this didn’t help my inability to connect with the characters and fully engage.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
