This is my first book by Sandie Jones and I was absolutely impressed! I couldn't put this one down. I had to see what was coming next. It did start off a bit slow, but with all of the twists and turns, it was a quick read.
It kept me guessing, for sure!. I was definitely not expecting the ending! I've thought about the book, well after I finished.
Put this one on your TBR if you love thrillers with twists!

3.5 stars
This book was a thriller in the best possible way. Every character was hiding something, and there were a lot of start-and-stop to get to the heart of what the heck was actually going on. I enjoyed riding along with the author through the twists and turns. The journey to the end in this one was really something else. Without giving anything away, I'll just say that I was right in hating the two characters I did from the first chapter.
If I had to change something, I'd say there was way more detail in the first chapter compared to the last couple of chapters. I prefer thrillers where the ending is more drawn-out and motives are fleshed out completely.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Wow. What a rollercoaster ride!

Three couples stay in a villa in Portugal for a destination wedding but you soon learn that each couple isn't what they seem and someone is lying...but who?

While I wouldn't call this book a fast-paced thriller, it is jam-packed with drama. It felt like a soap opera with all the twists and turns as the plot unfolds and you never really know who to trust. You might think you know what is going on but, there is still plenty to keep you guessing and a big finale that will leave you speechless. I really enjoyed Sandie's writing style and will certainly be reading more of her books in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Minotaur Books for giving me this advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really enjoyable thriller. The author did a great job sprinkling in misdirection and red herrings to make the ending unpredictable. The main character was sympathetic and the supporting characters were layered and interesting. Overall, it was a suspenseful and addicting read.

AUTHOR: Sandie Jones
RELEASE DATE: 08/21/2021

RATING: ⭐️ ⭐️ 🌟 .5/ 5

SYNOPSIS: 4 best friends 👫🏼👫🏼, 1 wedding 👰, and 1 affair. Can you say, yikes?! The problem is that, Rachel, the main character has coined the affair as Jack (her husband) and the bride 👰‍♀️. Is that really who’s having the affair though?!

PROS: This book was such a fast-paced and exciting mystery ❓. I loved all of the characters and rooted hardcore for the truth to be outed. 😬 Such a great read!

"The Guilt Trip" by Sandie Jones sounded very intriguing but I found the book hard to finish and very predictable. I did enjoy a couple of the characters but this isn't one I would recommend to friends.

This is the second book I've read from Sandie Jones. The Guilt Trip by Sandie Jones is about three couples who travel to Portugal for Will and Ali's destination wedding weekend. Rachel and her best friend Paige cannot stand Ali but Rachel puts in effort to get to know her new sister-in-law. The weekend is barely bearable when Rachel finds out a secret about Ali and her husband, Jack. Soon, secrets start spilling between the three couples and friendships are in jeopardy.

I enjoyed reading the book. I thought most of the characters were well-developed, especially Ali. You can see their character change from beginning to end, as the plot unravels. Plot was pretty predictable after a while and the whole book felt a bit dragged. I did not like the ending. It felt a bit lazy and unresolved.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author Sandie Jones, and publisher St. Martin's Press, for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, the author completely flips things around and leaves you completely stunned. This book was unbelievable, and I couldn’t put it down. What starts off as a gathering of friends and family to celebrate a wedding turns into a maze of betrayals, secrets and murder. This book was so well written and I absolutely loved it. It’s been a while since I’ve finished a book in one shot, but this one now holds a spot on that list!

This book is an intriguing read. While I was initially expecting more murder and mystery, the emphasis instead is very much on the characters' relationships and group dynamics. Not a lot happens, per say, but the story is still engaging and it is an interesting look into the secrets fueling this group of friends.

When things start happening at the end of the book, they happen quick! This was quite different pacing from the rest of the novel and took me by surprise. (And also left me a bit confused about certain points.) All in all though, a quick family drama-filled read.

I had thought The Guilt Trip, by Sandie Jones was going to be a murder mystery. It really is more of a character drama about college friends going to a destination wedding in Portugal. A wedding that they really don't want to happen and want even less to attend. As the weekend unwinds friendships and marriages are tested. This climaxes with the death of one of the main characters. The story hovered just below soap opera. It's not a bad story, it was just not the one I thought I was getting,
My thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. in exchange for my honest opinion.

The pieces (affairs, partners, etc) fit together a little too perfectly in this book for my liking. However, with that said, I wasn't expecting some of the twists BECAUSE of the perfect fit. And the book did keep me turning pages pretty quickly, so all in all, I guess it was a win for me? I'm glad that I read it, but it won't be one that I ever go back to to reread.

I received an electronic copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book.
Twists and turns and surprises to the end. It kept me reading but I felt like I was reading a YA novel. So many unlikeable characters. Good enough for a beach read but mostly a waste of time.

I don't give out 1 star ratings very often, but this was a time to. The Guilt Trip is a new thriller by Sadie Jones. We follow a group of friends flying in for one of their weddings. There is tension from the start, and things play out as you would expect. I am not sure why this particular book didn't click. I think it was a combination of the writing style, and plot. I really tried to love it, but I could not get on with the writing. Some things don't need to be explained in that mich detail. Also as I got to the end the plot and twists didn't wow me at all. I could not click with any of the characters, which led to me not really caring what happened. This was another case of wrong book, wrong reader.

Suspense, drama, a wedding-- what's not love and leave you wanting more?! Sandie Jones does it again with another thrilling and compelling read.

This book is a wonderful and suspenseful read. This is the first book for me to read from Sandie Jones and it won’t be the last. I can’t wait to read her previous and future books.

All the characters had me guessing and as soon as I thought I had things figured out another twist came up. Loved the suspense and the ending of this book. I read in two days because it was hard to put down.

The first half of this book was pretty frustrating. It felt a bunch of Threes Company episodes where all the characters are misinterpreting circumstances and a bunch of misunderstandings drive the plot Wouldn’t any normal woman address the issue right in the moment? Right upon suspicion? Does no one have the guts to speak up? Felt too contrived.

The characters were all pretty unlikable. Was Rachel supposed to be so annoying and an unsympathetic character? Was Paige supposed to be awful? Nothing likable about her. The scene with the picture from Ali’s past showed how mean spirited she is. Will and Noah are fairly innocent enough but the doormat nature of them seemed unappealing.

The second half of the book moves along quicker and theres more action but all the reveals and plot twists feel a bit forced. And who is talking in the Epilogue anyway? Is that Ali?

Overall, just ok. It will be interesting to see how it does

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

The story was interesting and different — I enjoyed the twists. The setting was well described. I had a firm picture of Ali in my head — some of the other characters were not described as well.

The overview of The Guilt Trip caught my attention. And I love books where the plot takes unexpected twists and turns. This is very true of The Guilt Trip. However, there are so many plots that are interwoven that it becomes hard to follow, very much a literary who's on first, who's on second.

Out of deference to the publisher and the author, I will not post my review.

I loved this book! I really relate to one of the main characters and the way get brain works and how she gets caught up in overthinking and second guessing herself. Highly recommend for anyone that loves a good mystery or domestic drama. The epilogue still has me guessing and I love that!
