Where's 14 year old Riley? Sure, she was unhappy about her blended family moving away from her boyfriend, her school, her neighborhood but did she run away while they were at the truck stop or was she taken? Mofina does a good job with the tension, especially with Riley's mom Grace's stress. The short chapters keep you turning the pages. Thanks to netgalley for the arc.

Teenage Riley disappears at a truck stop and thus begins a family's worst nightmare. What follows is an intense rollercoaster of a ride, full of secrets, lies, and deceptions. Rick Mofina never disappoints!

This is a parent's worst nightmare, and phew... it was INTENSE! The search for Riley had me at the edge of my seat, and the fact that this blended family is chock-full of secrets and deception did not help at all. Very entertaining!

This book had me hooked from the start. There were lots of twists and turns and I did not see the end coming!
I would thoroughly recommend this book.

This was a fast paced book. I liked the short chapters. I was intrigued and invested in the story. I felt the ending was somewhat rushed and unbelievable. I didn't have an emotional connection to any of the characters. Perhaps this was the author's intention, as each person seemed to be suspect and carrying around a secret.

This is the first book I have ever read from Rick Mofina and would like to read another. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a mystery and crime drama.

My thanks to NetGalley and publisher Joffe Books for the electronic copy.

This is a reasonably fast-paced story with a complex plot which really only comes to the fore at the end.
Grace, widowed with a 14-yr old daughter Riley has been married to John Marshall - a widower with a teenaged son Blake - for two years. They are moving across the Country from San Diego to Pittsburgh in a rented RV. Riley has been taken away from her friends and a boyfriend and resents the move. They get on OK as a "blended" family, but each one of them has secrets. Pulling up at the Sagebrush, a massive truck stop in the Nevada desert and thinking Riley was asleep, they find, on beginning their onward journey, that Riley isn't actually in the RV. Thus ensues a desperate search of the huge complex, with the local police calling in massive reinforcements to search the surrounding desert. As news of Riley's disappearance hits the media Grace and John's friends and colleagues mobilise to give their support to the family.

There's lots of twists and turns - and red-herrings in this, although a lot of the "search" narrative and missing-person procedures made me think I was witnessing a docudrama as it was so detailed. I did think it was a little drawn-out and Grace's desperation came across as rather repetitive.

A good story though.

Crazy

This author writes stories that I can fly through, grabbing my interest right from the start. The main characters in this story ring true to me and they’re not always likable. Each of the four has an issue that they are keeping secret from the others and this adds some layers (along with added drama and over the top crazy) in addition to the missing Riley.

There are a lot of characters, too many, that are mentioned once and have no real importance to the story. It made the middle drag a bit with the unnecessary fluff. When the story does pick up it goes off the rails. This is the stuff of soap operas or Lifetime movies and if you enjoy those then you’ll get a kick out of this. I’m on the fence, it was quick and provided entertainment but I think I’m burning out on the “missing/abducted girl” genre. That said I’ll always look forward to the next one from this author.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Joffe Books for a copy in exchange for a review.

Riley disappeared from the RV were she was on a trip with her mom, mom’s boyfriend and his son. Riley is angry with her mother for moving her away from her boyfriend Caleb and also for taking away her phone. She follows her family in to a trucks top and doesn’t come back.
Anyone in this blended family is hiding a secret. And it takes a long time to find out what really happened to Riley.
I was hooked from the start, even if the middle part was a little slow. But the twists and the surprising ending made up for it.

Rick Molina is the kind of author you read when nothing on your tbr list is appealing to you at any given moment. You know you will read a satisfying thriller with well rounded characters, an interesting premise, fast paced reading with an ending you usually don’t expect. I read this during the pandemic and the open Nevada wilderness seemed inviting until the story took dark turns and I was glad to be locked up in my own house. Yes, as always a solid four stars.

A young girl disappears and everyone in her family is hiding a secret. Started out well but dragged in the middle before rushing to a surprising conclusion.

Rick Mofina's books are always fun to read, because they have lots of twists and turns but keep the story line moving. This is the story of a blended family who is relocating to Pennsylvania from California. The parents each lost their first spouse to a dreadful accident, and their surviving teenage children are still adjusting to the new situation and are not pleased to be moving across the country. They are driving a motor home across the country, and after they leave a rest stop in Nevada, they discover the daughter is missing. The narrative helps us feel the despair of the mother, the guilt of the step-brother who told a lie, and the step-father who has his own secrets. The investigation and search are described in detail and hold one's interest. The characters each have their own flaws, and are thus believable. There were a few discrepancies that were puzzling, but it really didn't mar the overall enjoyment of the book.

This was a great read, could not put it down. Not once could I figure out the who or why. The author had a wonderful way of taking control of the story, leading you to a theory only to take it away or in some cases coming back to it. I couldn't decide if I was right with any theory I had. They were all plausible. The only correct one was the one I never even thought of and the perpetrator someone I never suspected.

I highly recommend this to other readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to enjoy this great book.

Every now and then, a reader has the good luck of reading a mystery that completely ticks all the boxes: Search For Her by Rick Mofina is that book. A blended family from San Diego have rented an RV to drive cross-country, on the way to a new job and a new beginning. Dad and his teenage son, Blake and Mom with her teenage daughter, Riley are trying to make a go of their new family. Because of a terrible misunderstanding, Riley is left behind at a giant truck stop, located on the edge of a desert. The family soon realizes their mistake but by then Riley has disappeared. What follows is a massive search involving police from California and Nevada and a large group of friends from San Diego. Then it becomes clear that each and every one of these family members have secrets, huge secrets. Where is Riley? Did someone kidnap her? Did she leave of her own accord? Will she ever be found and will she be alive? What makes this book so captivating is Rick Mofina’s writing style. Each chapter finishes with a cliff-hanger that is not explained until several chapters later. The reader is kept in the dark, imagining all kinds of possibilities. This is a thriller that will not be soon forgotten. Highly recommended. Thank you to Joffe Books, NetGalley and the author for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rick Mofina is one of my go to authors when I want a captivating read and Search For Her is his latest mystery/thriller.
A family's cross country move turns into a journey from hell when the 14 yr old daughter goes missing at a busy truck stop. What follows is a relentless police investigation into a troubled family (resulting in many suspects) and a race against time to find her.
Various storylines are weaved together making it confusing at times. However, it's full of action-packed twists and turns making you wonder what's next. And ultimately it all comes together in the end.
A Riveting Read!

I am a huge fan of Rick Mofina. I enjoy staying up late and reading his books. They are always interesting, intricate, with solid characters and plotlines. The author has a way of slowly drawing the reader in and then allowing the story, characters, and plot to unfold in dramatic ways. Search For Her had me guessing until the reveal—another great book by Rick Mofina.

Search for Her is my first book by Rick Mofina. Wow what a ride this was! Riley is a 14 year old that is traveling with her Mom, new stepdad and new brother in an RV across the country. Her stepdad is offered a better job and Riley has to leave her friends and boyfriend behind and she is far from happy about it. They stop at a huge truck stop in Nevada and Riley goes missing. It seems as if everyone has secrets and all of this starts to come out during the search. A real page turner and you won't be able to put it down!
