This is a fascinating, intriguing story that begins in the 1930s and then moves to the present time, with the story of both time frames totally in sync.
The 1930s were difficult times for the average person in America because of the depression. Luke was thankful and thrilled at the prospect of his new job as a diver who would be working on building a new bridge, later to be known as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco Luke recently became engaged to his beloved Margo, and together they had great plans and hope for their future.
On one of his dives, the strong currents of the Pacific pushed Luke into something, that proved to be an old ship, that was full of not only artifacts, but gold. Luke stumbled upon a piece of gold that he brought up with him. His thought this one piece of gold could give his life with Margo a good start. Neither of them anticipated the distress and anxiety that one piece of gold would cause.
Fast forward to the present day where Kayla, one of the best underwater archaeologists in the world is called to the office of the mayor of San Francisco. Kayla is dealing with the death of both her parents which has caused her much anxiety, and an occasional panic attack. Once in the mayor’s office she is asked if she’s familiar with the “Lucky Martha” and the rumor of the cargo of gold. Kayla is quickly offered the job of diving down to up the gold and artifacts from the ship. Because not many are able to dive in the strait because of the turbulence, the mayor has recruited other divers of her caliber to assist. This other team is headed up by Steven Michaels and their specialty is restoration.
As this story progresses both in the 1930s and the present time, both experience unknown danger and unexpected situations. The two different times come together beautifully in this intriguing and fascinating story

This is a fascinating read. This is one of the few multiple time era stories I have really enjoyed. Of course the right amount of mystery always draws me in like a moth to a lamp.
The history of San Francisco and the building of the Golden Gate Bridge, using divers to work on the bridge’s foundation underwater is fascinating. The story details many of the modernizations for divers today. Added to the intriguing history of abandoned ships during the Gold Rush era, along with the burning greed of gold, and the desperation which the Great Depression left on people, will keep you turning the pages.

“Certain moments in life define a person.”
So begins Kimberley Woodhouse’s story of intrigue, history, love, and truth.
Set in a dual time, the story incorporates the stories of Luke, Kayla and Steve as each one takes part in building and restoring the Golden Gate Bridge. Luke Moreau is newly engaged to Margo and so happy to be working to help build the greatest project to date for two reasons: he’s helping to make history and it’s 1933, the Depression is in play, and he is lucky enough to have a job. Kayla Richardson is an underwater archaeologist and very good at what she does. She has been hired by the city of San Francisco to salvage a ship in the water near the bridge. She is the best in her field and is remarkable in what she does. Together with Steve Michaels, who was hired to restore the bridge, Kayla finds herself in a mystery spanning the years from the Great Depression to present day with a mix treasure hunting and danger thrown in. Along the way she learns about persistence, hope, faith and herself. This novel is an engaging way to spend an afternoon, or two or three! Readers won’t be disappointed and will find themselves lost in the story.

The third installment to Barbour’s newest series, Doors to the Past, was an enjoyable read. I’m excited that the publisher is producing a series that focuses on the dual time format. I’m an avid reader of such books so it was fun for me to read and review this book.

Bridge of Gold, by Kimberley Woodhouse is an interesting read, bringing readers into the world of underwater archeology and engineering. The story straddles two timelines, 1930s and present-day San Francisco, both stories revolving around the Golden Gate Bridge.

The story not only covers the building of the Bridge, but revolves around treasure hunters from the past and present. Ships were buried in the harbour, and one ship in particular was legendary in both time lines. A search for gold, sabotage, and strenuous relationships exist both in the past and present.

Kimberley Woodhouse provides vivid descriptions, and the right amount of detail to bring readers into both worlds. There are interesting contrasts and parallels in both time periods – from underwater diving equipment, to construction methods. There is enough intrigue, suspense, and romance to keep readers turning the pages.

I received an ecopy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

I am not a huge dual timeline fan, and I tend to prefer historical fiction, but I think I finally found someone who knows how to weave the stories together in a way that not only keeps my attention, but makes me wonder which time period I want to read about more! Both the contemporary and the historical time periods were fascinating, filled with information, history, personal growth, romance, and edge-of-your-seat suspense.

An underwater archeologist is hired to investigate a sunken treasure ship under the Golden Gate Bridge, along with a handsome restoration diver, who finds his way past her walls and into her heart as they work together to solve the mysteries behind the bodies they find on top of the treasure. Unfortunately for them, someone else already knows about the treasure, and is willing to do whatever it takes to get it.

Meanwhile, back in the 1930s, another diver thinks God has provided a way out of the depression for him and his future wife when he stumbles across the ship and its gold. Little does he know that going after that gold will cause more sorrow than joy, upsetting his life, safety, and the lives of everyone around him.

Arguably her best book yet, Kimberley Woodhouse has outdone herself as she delves into the logistics of historical diving, the dangers surrounding it, and weaves a tale of intrigue and romance through it all.

Bridge of Gold
by Kimberley Woodhouse
Back of the Book: "Repairs on the Golden Gate Bridge Uncover a Century-Old Murder
Walk through Doors to the Past via a new series of historical stories of romance and adventure.
Underwater archaeologist Kayla Richardson is called to the Golden Gate Bridge where repairs to one of the towers uncovers two human remains from the late 1800s and the 1930s. The head of the bridge restoration is Steven Michaels, who dives with Kayla, and a friendship develops between them. But as the investigation heats up and gold is found that dates back to the gold rush, more complications come into play that threaten them both. Could clues leading to a Gold Rush era mystery that was first discovered during the building of the bridge still ignite an obsession worth killing for?"
Impressions: This was a was a well written, suspenseful, dual timeline, Christian romance. That was a mouthful but it really was all that and more.
Rated: Murder, Kisses
Liked: Dual timelines can get messy sometimes but this book flowed between the past (1930) and present smoothly while building up suspense and romance in the past and present. This was an easy book to enjoy.
Quotes: "All her life, she'd journaled her emotions and thoughts with art. Not only was it a good way to keep her hands busy, but it helped her work through her feelings since she wasn't the best at talking about them." - Any journalers out there? I have journals all the way back to first grade. I love to go back and read through my journals to compare and contrast where I was and where I am. It is so insightful to see how I processed situations and to see how God has worked in my life. If you've never tried writing out your thoughts here is a nudge to give it a try.
"Ever since he was a teen, he'd planned for the future. Whatever God had for him, he wanted to be ready. To do that, he had to be a good steward, plan and realize that the race of life was often turtle paced." - I could go on a soapbox about this statement. I too am a planner, a flexible planner though because that is what God calls us to be; to be prepared but to be available for his calling. Being a good steward is making intentional choices to enable flexibility in life. You can't financially give if you are in debt, you can't give time you don't have, you can't be prepared if you haven't taken the time to prepare…

Bridge Of Gold by Kimberley Woodhouse is a most delightful dual timeline Christian novel. It is part of the Doors To The Past series but can be read as a stand-alone.
The story alternates between present day and 1933 at the time of the construction of the Golden Gate bridge. It is told from various alternating points of view enabling the reader to become emotionally invested in the characters.
The lure of gold corrupts lives. When people live for treasure, there are no depths to which they will not stoop.
In counter balance there are people of faith who realise the true treasure that is found in God and others.
There is the theme of loss. When accidents happen, we want answers but sometimes we just have to accept that there are no answers this side of heaven.
When life deals us blows, we want to know the next step. “If only God would give her a sticky note from heaven about what she was supposed to do next.” We need to have faith and put our hand in the hand of God and trust His guiding.
Prayer is important. “She got down on her knees … she needed to pray.” When God puts someone on our hearts, we need to pray immediately – their lives may depend on our prayers.
We need to learn from our past. As we track the hand of God on our lives, we can see He is faithful. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Bridge Of Gold was a positively charming read with delightful characters whom I loved.

1933 and current day San Francisco

In this third Doors to the Past time slip novel, there is a lot of history about the Golden Gate Bridge and diving. Who knew there were divers in the 1930s? Clearly, the technology was different, but diving was a key part of constructing San Francisco's famous bridge.

The story opens with the engagement of Luke and Margo. They are so optimistic for their future. Luke has landed a good job as a diver. Good jobs are tough to come by during the Depression. Things quickly turn south as he discovers a gold nugget underwater.

In the current day thread, Underwater Archeologist Kayla has been hired by the mayor to research a recently discovered sunken ship that is believed to have gold in it.

Villains abound in both threads. The past and current day story lines were equally engaging. I especially loved the historical details. The cover is lovely.

I was given an ARC of Bridge of Gold. I loved this book. It has a dual-time storyline, but it's easy to follow. The book drew me in almost instantly. I found myself trying to figure things out, thinking I had, only to discover that I was incorrect. I don't like when it's obvious early-on, so that pleased me. I did feel the climax in the present day story was a little rushed, but not so much that it took away from the enjoyment of the story. Good read! I can't wait for her next book!

A time slip novel blending events from the 1890s, 1930s, and present day. This was an interesting story connected with the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco and a sunken treasure ship. In the present day we have Kayla (an archaeologist) and Steve a bridge restoration specialist. In the 30s we meet Luke and Margo, and we see a skeleton wrapped in chains from the 1890s. The history surrounding the building of the bridge was interesting to me. I wish we could have gotten to know Kayla and Steve as well as we did Luke and Margo. It was an enjoyable read, but I wish there was a little more “flesh” to the characters. 3.5/5 stars

I am always excited to find an author I have not read from before. Even more exciting was finding an author with a Christian perspective that comes through in her writing.

This book has so many of my favorite things...

It is historical fiction about a sunken ship from the Gold rush!! Never heard about this at all. Also, it is about the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, very cool.

It is written in a dual time line, I have found that I really like that a lot.

There is suspense and romance. Great combination.

I enjoyed the writing style of this author and am looking forward to reading more of her books.

Bridge of Gold is dual timeline like I mentioned, there is a mystery surrounded a sunken ship from the 1800's during the gold rush. We are pulled into one time line in 1933 when the Golden Gate Bridge is being built and then the present day timeline. Both timelines center around this sunken ship and the search for gold as well as solving a mystery. I loved the mystery part of it. Both timelines were very parallel as greed overtakes human decency. I loved the characters and I enjoyed how this eventually wrapped up. Also, very much appreciated that the characters have a faith in God and while it does not over power the story it is a nice touch to this book.

Bridge of Gold is the perfect mashup of my two favorite genres—historical fiction and romantic suspense. Kimberley Woodhouse strikes a nice balance between telling and showing readers what’s going on in the story which makes reading the book feel effortless. I liked how she revealed details of the main characters' lives to help me understand why they reacted to challenges and setbacks the way they did. This was especially true with Kayla in the modern-day storyline. Kayla and Steven bear the names of two people the author holds dear (see dedication page), and I could sense that warmth and familiarity coming through in her descriptions of the couple. Beyond the romance, there's a good amount of history about San Francisco, the Depression, construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, and SCUBA diving (then and now) which titillated the inquisitive part of my mind. Overall, Bridge of Gold is an engaging Christian time-slip novel sure to appeal to a broad audience.

The bridge of gold is the Golden Gate, and what a chore that was to build in the 30s. Luke Moreau is one of the divers who struggles to maintain his position in the swift current. One day he discovers a ship embedded in the seawall, and a nugget of gold.
In the current day, Steve Michaels also discovers the ship while doing restoration dives. Underwater archaeologist Kayla Richardson is brought in to recover the treasure.
Both Luke in the 30s and Steve and Kayla must deal with deranged individuals who believe the gold belongs to them and will stop at nothing, including murder.
This incredible story offers a whole new appreciation of the iconic bridge, and a bit of romance.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I appreciate being given access to the book but it was a DNF for me. Totally not my genre and the parts I did read seemed overwritten and full of irritating prose. Sorry to pan someone's effort but this was not appealing to me at all. Nice cover..

I really enjoyed reading this book! Having dual timelines to a story is a way of enhancing it and I typically very much enjoy it when an author does that. I learned things about the building of the Golden Gate Bridge and diving while reading this book. And most fascinating of all is the fact that the city of San Francisco is actually built upon the wreckage of ships wrecked or abandoned during California’s Gold Rush in the mid-nineteenth century!

You can read what this book is about from other sources. I did enjoy it and would recommend to anyone who enjoys a mystery and historical fiction! I received this book from the publisher via net galley in exchange for an honest review.

Another great offering in the Doors to the Past series. Bridge of Gold is a good dual-time story with likable characters, just enough intrigue, and lots of interesting historical detail about building the Golden Gate Bridge. The past and present storyline blended together well. Good enjoyable read.

A intriguing dual-time story from Kimberley Woodhouse! Bridge of Gold features very interesting snippets of history that I’m excited to explore further. I had a bit of a tough time connecting with a few of the characters, but I liked Luke the most. The ending was pretty quick but everything is wrapped up well and in a satisfying way. I’m very excited for more books in the Doors to the Past series! 3/5 stars
