The thing about gardening is that sometimes, somehow, it feels like another thing to do on my to-do list. Another thing to check off the list in order to reap the benefits at the end of the season... but The Garden in Every Sense and Season takes the road less traveled: indulging in your garden with every sense. Less to-do, and more to-experience, in every season. A delightful slice of wisdom and a re-framing of an activity I've loved but gotten a little too to-do about!

This was an interesting read. Tovah shares meandering thoughts and insights from out in her garden. As a gardener myself, I enjoyed the book. There was nothing especially helpful for gardening in general., but certainly a good reminder to stop and feel the peace of the garden while out there.

This is a wonderful book for garden lovers, provided you prefer lots of words and no pictures. It would make a great winter read or book for dreary days. I found it too long for myself, as I'm the type to want to get out into the garden or see a photo or drawing of the plant she's describing, but it's wonderful for those who just want to read beautifully worded essays on the garden all year long.

I absolutely adore this book. It’s has been an absolute joy to read and has been extremely informative. Although I am in the UK I believe that a lot of the book was still very relevant and if not entertaining. I would highly recommend this to any nature and garden lover.

It's very cute but it's really not what I expected. I really enjoyed the tone of the book and its voice.

The Garden in Every Sense and season is almost like a love-letter written by the author to her garden. It goes deep into every sense; sight, smell, sound, touch and taste according to what goes on in her garden at the different seasons.

It’s an incredibly descriptive written book, and I sometimes forgot I was reading about someone’s garden and finding myself dreaming of the outdoors in the different seasons. Going into this I thought it would be more about gardening in the sense where I would get the tips and tricks, but it really isn’t, it explains the seasons and how they work and what you can find and it’s quite lovely.

I also love that we start at spring and end in winter, going through the seasons with her. The book also has a lovely index at the end which I can only assume would be wonderful for going back later to find a specific section about “thyme” or “tulips”.

The Garden in Every Sense and Season is a book for the soul and senses. It is part memoir but full of advice, reflections and things to notice and enjoy throughout the year. It is a full on mindfulness experience for all the senses. It encourages you to notice and tune into nature and enjoy the garden you have created, and also the natural world all around us. It is a lovely read that will help you to 'smell the roses'.

The cover on this one is so cute! I enjoyed this one. It's one of those books that works best as a "when you have a few minutes to spare" type of read. I loved diving in to the author's thoughts and her descriptions brought things to life.

The Garden in Every Sense and Season by Tovah is an excellent memoir/collection of natural observations and reflections that the author has placed together into a wonderful book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

This is such a calming, relaxing, and enjoyable narrative that is a reflection and collection of observations on not only nature, a personal garden, but also life over the annual change of seasons within the author's personal grounds.

It was wonderful to be reminded to not only stop to notice all that is around you, all that you are blessed with, but also all of the rewards from the hard work that you have put into a space. So many times we focus on all the tasks needed, checklists that need to be checked, and all of the objectives that we forget to see the little things. The author has a real talent in reflection and observation. I have a new outlook on not only my personal garden that I have been starting, but also in my natural habitat that I walk through on my daily walks as well.

A great book. Truly.

5/5 stars

The Garden in Every Sense and Season is an inspirational journey of using our senses to shape our experiences while communing with nature in our gardens, The book by Tovah Martin encourages us to remember all that the garden has to offer in all seasons and weather conditions.

In a year when most of us have spent a lot of time in our gardens, this book about enjoying those spaces is very timely. We always seem to be focused on the tasks we need to accomplish in our gardens, they are endless – weeds need to be pulled, plants thinned and watered, vegetables harvested, a new crop of seed sown. Martin encourages us to stop and actually enjoy our gardens, their fragrance, their sounds and colors. I’m not a big fan of mindfulness books, but this tome is delightful and makes me anxious to get back outside
