This was an interesting book about getting yourself out of debt. I liked the spreadsheets that Erin provides on her website. I like that Erin included planning for the inevitable once you have dug yourself out of debt.

There are a lot of "get out of debt" books readily available, Get the Hell Out of Debt is one of those books. Like other get debt free books they give you information teaching you how to actually get out of debt.

This book was an interesting and enlightening read, while also being funny and supportive. Erin Skye Kelly’s podcast is great too.

This book may be the most supportive financial literacy book available.
The author pairs her wealth of experience and knowledge with a great sense of humour, relatable anecdotes, and a non-judgemental attitude for a book that welcomes everyone at any stage of knowledge. Although the main focus of this book is exactly what the title says - tackling debt - this book includes a system which can provide knowledge or a great refresher to anyone at any stage of financial health. Covering everything from debt to wealth-building and including notes that apply to a global audience instead of just those in America, this book is one of the first truly accessible and comprehensive looks at finances available today.

This book is a must read if you're in debt, or for young people before they have an opportunity to get into debt in the first place. The author offers a unique whole-hearted perspective to money; this isn't the typical "make more and spend less" program. The book is funny and the steps to freeing yourself from (or staying out of) debt are clearly laid out.

Wonderful advice ! Practical and educational. Spelled it out with great scenarios. I enjoyed the personal life thrown in there too.

There are some interesting tips in this book. However, it could have been organized better. There were some areas in the book where I was confused because it did not flow well.

An interesting look at debt and how to get out of it. Some information wasn't relevant to me as I am not based in the US however the author does have an universal approach within the book that makes sense.

Loved the anecdotes and finding out how people who'd taken the course were doing

This is an enlightening book that will help you dig out of debt and refocus your finances. I love how straightforward this book is and how it doesn't play around but is written in a way to guide you and teach you.

I'm not usually one for a self-help type book, but Get the Hell Out of Debt was absolutely great. It is a personable, relatable guide to the way you see, save, and use money. The book is written as to feel more like a conversation with a friend and it's so approachable you'll be talking about it with all of your friends and loved-ones. It will change your approach to money.

5/5 Stars

Informative, enlightening and a game changer. I enjoy Erin’s down to earth, real, approach so that we all can make changes to create a better life and not just “manage” our money.

This book will literally CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

If you want to take control of your finances and improve your financial literacy, then this book is a MUST READ! It is super easy to read and full of funny anecdotes from Erin's own Get The Hell Out Of Debt journey, which will surely make you laugh! The author has outlined the various steps you need to take to pay off your own debt. Each chapter focuses on a different step to financial freedom, which gives the reader the ability to follow along and do the work at the same time.

As a graduate from the Get The Hell Out Of Debt program, I was able to put into practice the concepts outlined in THIS book, and pay-off over 6-figures in consumer debt. I know from my own experience that if you read this book AND DO THE WORK, you too will take control of your own finances and become debt free!

I love books on finances and this book did not disappoint. I thought it had a lot of great advice and some new perspective and tools on managing debt and creating wealth. I was a bit torn on the author because sometimes she was a bit crude in speech and rambled enough for me to get sidetracked, but then other times I really loved her personality and the depth and emotion that she brought to the book. Overall, a great book on the topic.

I think this is a really interesting book with some different ideas on how to get out of debt, and also for things like financial planning. It doesn’t promise you the earth, or lay unrealistic claims to be the only or best way to do this, but it will definitely be an option worth considering for anyone who needs or wants to be debt free.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.

Do you need to get out of debt? Of course you do! We all do! Well, this book can help you with that. Most of the ideas in the book are already well known and have been covered before by other authors, so there isn’t a lot of groundbreaking information here (make a budget, have an emergency fund, cut expenses to pay off debt faster). But the book is written in a much more casual and personable manner than many other financial experts (and lacks the religious and judgemental overtones that quite a few authors have, like Dave Ramsey).
Kelly does add some information that isn’t commonly covered, such as self-care, exercises to determine your values, and investment strategies for after your debt is paid off. She offers free worksheets on her website for some of the exercises, which I found helpful. One thing to note is the author is Canadian, so there were some terms and concepts that don’t apply to me as an American, but those were easily ignored.
Overall this is one of the better financial books I’ve read in my life, and I would definitely recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced reader copy. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

For me this wasn't completely new concepts, a lot of the advice I have seen from other people or writers. Such as 0 based budgets/ emergency funds/ organising debt for payoff/ working to increase your net worth etc. However what did make this interesting was the effort Erin put into writing this with emotional intelligence. It covered points such as self care, staying in your own lane, couples money and finical abuse. This mixed with the behavioural evaluation will allow people to truly change their relationship with debt and money long term. It also included some very simple budget and debt worksheets to help you start the process and it did cover US/Canadian and UK options which was great. However for someone who really enjoys the charisma and the programme of Dave Ramsey this one, even though more modern and emotionally sensitive it was not it for me.

This book has a lot of information on pursuing financial freedom and, as the title suggests, a lot of info on getting out of debt. It also offers information on investing, financial planning, and even info on estate planning. An in-depth book that, quite frankly, won't be easy for a lot of people because so many of us live a lifestyle of debt and don't want to think about not having a house or car payment. I thought it was great, insightful, and I also loved that she offered guidance and tips but didn't promise this is the only way to do it, but helps you figure out what works for you. Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher to allow me to read and review.
