Despite having a few issues with this story near the end - more on that later - I'm compelled to say this right up front: I do not recall the last time I read a book so thoroughly engrossing - mesmerizing, even - that except for a handful of chapters I started the night before, I polished off in one sitting even though it extended past my usual bedtime. For that alone, it gets a rousing WOW! from me.

Wren Greenwood is a successful advice columnist and blogger with a past that she's managed to hide from the rest of the world (she's created a whole new identity since her childhood years). For obvious reasons, she's a bit of a loner, and her best friend, Jax, convinces her to sign up for an online dating app and dip her toes into the dating waters. When she does, she finds an intriguing guy named Adam; they meet, and for the first time in her life, Wren thinks she's in love. Heck, she even told him about her horrific past when he asked her to share with him something she's never told anyone else. Not long thereafter, the unthinkable happens. At their most recent arranged meeting, he's a no-show; his phone has been disconnected and all his online profiles have gone poof in the night. As young folks would say today, she's been ghosted.

To put it mildly, she's crushed. And determined to figure out why. Was he turned off by her past? Did something awful happen to him? Did he have a few secrets of his own? Then she gets a visit from private detective Bailey Kirk; his firm's client is the father of another young woman who went missing after hooking up with a guy online who's a dead ringer for her Adam. Could it be that he's a serial lover and leaver? Or, when a couple of other women met up with him turn out to be missing as well, maybe something worse?

The bulk of the story is told by Wren (and occasionally Bailey); some chapters flash back to scenes from Wren's frenetic childhood and a couple of the other victims. That's a bit confusing at first, but I didn't find it hard to follow. Plus, there's quite a bit of repetition as Wren and Bailey retell their experiences and conclusions with other characters - such as Bailey's boss and the man who helped Wren escape her horrific childhood and create a new life - so what's happened then and now gets reinforced throughout.

The conclusion, albeit nail-bitingly fast-paced, is where I lost some interest (not to mention respect for Wren, who up to that point had been a survivor with a sensible head on her shoulders in my view). Of course, I won't reveal what happened - so I'll just say that some parts (and characters) were very satisfying and others not so much. The epilogue, too, was a bit unsettling, bringing what I consider to be a surprising, and somewhat disappointing, turn of events.

But no matter; I base my reviews primarily on the quality of writing and plot originality, not on whether or not I agree with an author's perspective or don't "connect" with the characters. And trust me, that WOW! factor that struck me at the beginning was in place right to the end. Well done, and once again I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for allowing me to read and review a pre-release copy.

This was a decent psychological thriller. It was relatively fast paced and I read it quickly. As I read, I definitely had my suspicions about who Adam Harper was. Wren's story was interesting but I don't know that she could have kept her true identity hidden as long as she did. If you are looking for a quick and easy to read thriller, than this is a good choice. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC.

When Wren meets Adam through a dating app, she doesn’t expect to fall so hard for him. But she does. And he seems to have fallen hard for her too. And then one night he disappears. His social media accounts are deleted like he never existed. Wren learns that there were other girls before her who experienced the same thing, except the girls are now missing too. Wren decides to search for Adam. But is she the hunter or the prey?

This book is wild y’all. Once I got sucked in, I needed to know how all the pieces fit together. This is my second Lisa Unger book and I love how dark her heroines are. They have secrets and darker impulses than traditional thriller female protagonists. It could have been so easy to have the dating app/ghosted set up be a weak thriller but the author really nailed it.

If you’re a fan of darker books, then definitely check this one out. I will definitely be exploring more of Lisa’s backlist! I read this one with the @lovearctually crew and loved watching everyone’s reactions to the twists roll in. I’m really looking forward to our club’s chat with the author in a few days!

I really enjoyed Confessions of the 7:45 so I was ecstatic when this one landed on my doorstep and it did not disappoint!

It was such a captivating and addictive story that I found to be really fast paced! Full of twists, this one was such a fun and chilling read! Unger perfectly executed using short but concise chapters and duel timelines to continually build the suspense!

I was throughly intrigued by the haunting digital culture aspect and combined with characters with dark pasts and an abundance of secrets, it made this one unputdownable!!

New auto-buy author alert! This ones out October 5th!

4.5 stars rounded to 5 for goodreads!

Last Girl Ghosted is a dark read that will take you on a roller coaster of a read.

Yes its a dark read as PTSD, mental health, abuse and murder to name a few are prevalent but at the same time you can't help but cheer on Wren.

Wren thought she met the love of her life on a dating app and then one day he was gone. All traces of Adam were wiped out.

It's not pleasant being ghosted.

Wren takes things into her own hands and the secrets, lies and missing girls are on the list.

Pages fly by as you follow this story that goes between then and now .

The lights stayed on for a few more chapters as I had to know if Wren would survive.

Lisa Unger never disappoints and Last Girl Ghosted is no exception.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harelquin - Trade Publishing (U.S.& Canada) Park Row for dark but thrilling read.

Wren Greenwood has overcome a lot. Her childhood was blown up when her father killed her brother and mother and he was sentenced to prison. She was raised by a women in The Hollows, outside New York City. She changed her name and re-invented herself. And then she meets Adam on the Torch app. She is interested in meeting new men and Adam ticks a lot of her boxes. But, within a short period of time, Adam disappears, none of his social media contacts work and his office space is empty. Bailey Kirk arrives at Wren's doorstep and tells her he is looking for Adam because another girl has gone missing. And there are two other missing girls. Wren decides to hunt Adam (or whoever he really is) down. And it means she has to return to The Hollows and face down some of her worst fears. Unger always write a good book, but for me, this one seemed a little formulaic.

Last girl ghosted is about a girl who uses a dating app at the insistence of her friend. What happens will keep you on the edge of your seat

Wren gets ghosted by a guy she mat one a dating app. Except she has many ghosts in her past that come back to haunt her as she pursues this missing guy. I thought the writing was intriguing becasue I had to find out the story behind both Wren and the disappearing dude. I liked Jax the best out of all the personalities. I kind of figured out the mystery man before he was revealed. Many people disappear every year, some disappearances are intentional, others are not. Read this one to make the distinction.

Wren, the protagonist of Last Girl Ghosted, meets Adam on Torch (a Tinder-like, swipe right phone app) and she feels such CONNECTION with him. Although he is a little secretive, she feels a draw like she hasn't in a long time. And Wren isn't without her own secrets, as we come to find out in the story. Then, Adam just disappears. This happens to be the day after Wren bears her soul, and tells Adam (most of) her secrets. She looks for him, but all his profiles, his whole electronic footprint, has vanished. There is no record that he even existed.

Wren makes it her mission to find Adam, and figure out what he has been doing, both before Wren and since they became a couple The story takes several twists and turns, ending in a somewhat predictable, but still highly entertaining ending that I really enjoyed.

I am new to Lisa Unger's books, and this one seemed as good of a start as any of hers. I found her writing to be a little different (in a good way). For example, the story is told from Wren's point of view. Whenever Wren refers to Adam, she calls him "you" in the dialogue. That took me a few minutes to get used to, but I, in the end, liked it. It seemed much more intimate and that you really felt what Wren was feeling. The ending was a little predictable, but I still really enjoyed the whole book, and will definitely read another by this author soon!

Thank you to the author, publisher and Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced thriller. Beautiful Lies from 2006 was always my favorite Lisa Unger book but this one just surpassed it. It grabbed me from the opening paragraph and didn't let go until I finished in a little over a day. Well written with great characters and an intriguing plot. Highly Recommended

Secrets, obsession and vengeance converge in this riveting thriller about an online dating match turned deadly cat-and-mouse game, from the New York Times bestselling author of Confessions on the 7:45.
Thanks to Park Row and Netgalley for the ARC.
This book starts out strong, and I was immediately sucked into Wren’s world. Lisa Unger is a fantastic author whose way with words could make a squirrel stop and pay attention. I was eager to find out why Adam ghosted Wren, and what their backstories were. However, I just didn't like this one as much I thought I would.
Disappointing book from a great author.

Lisa Unger has another solid thriller out, with Last Girl Ghosted following Confessions on the 7:45 onto the list of woman-in-danger thrillers. I’m not the intended demographic, being totally not interested in dating apps, quickie hookups, or advice bloggers, but I was quickly taken in by the story. (TBH I did find myself getting annoyed as happens when I read about strong female characters getting all whiny and clingy as they search for a man — sometimes ANY man).

In this case, a popular blog/podcast combo “Dear Birdie” is rolling along successfully, and the creator, a smart young woman named Wren, wants a man in her life. She meets Adam through an online app, and finds herself caring deepl;y and revealing her innermost thoughts to him — then she is ghosted. Not only is he not at his home (which turns out to be a vacation rental), his phone is disconnected and his online profiles are all gone. Then, she is visited by an investigator who is trying to find “Adam” in connection with the disappearance of several young women. Rather than just dodge a bullet and get on with her life, she continues the search, even as the reality begins to be clear. She really does want to be the “Last Girl Ghosted” by this guy.

Well done, another enjoyable Lisa Unger thriller. Four stars.

I love Lisa Unger's books because they are dark, twisty, and yet I feel like any of them could happen to me. In Last Girl Ghosted, successful advice columnist Wren decides to go on a dating app and quickly makes a connection with a tall, dark, and intriguing man named Adam. Just as things start heating up and Wren feels comfortable enough to share some secrets of her past, he abruptly cuts her off. She is pissed, but soon becomes scared as a (hot) private investigator shows up at her door asking about Adam. Yikes!
Another winner from Lisa Unger!

At times, I found this story to be all over the place and, at least in the beginning, had some difficulty distinguishing who was who. There was a lot here, representing so many of societal ills.

It bothered me that someone who is supposed to be a capable young woman, albeit damaged from early trauma, would be so entranced by someone who obviously is up to no good.

While this book didn’t quite do it for me, I did feel that it had an important message about the dangers of social media and online dating. It wasn’t quite my “cup of tea”, but I’m sure others will like it.

OK on like page 5 of this title I had SERIOUS ISSUES with it. There is a passage where the person complains that no men on dating apps want to go hiking. BRRRRNNNGGGG. That is the straight up opposite of what I see on dating apps. ALL those male motherf'ers wanna go hiking! This book was obviously written by someone who has never had to use an app. This was so egregious I couldn't finish this book. And I finish so many ARCs. This is the first one I haven't finished in months and months. ALL MEN ON THE APPS LOVE HIKING. I'm done.

Read this! How do you meet a match today? Online dating, so many of us do it. As careful as you think you are being, there will always be the chance that it's not enough as is the story for Wren. What starts as lust then leads to what could be love flows into danger trumped by desire. Wren not only has to reveal her truth to others but to herself to find her way home. What a story!

This started out with great promise. I was not entirely pleased with some of the storyline- just hard to believe or maybe I don't want to believe people would do those things. Great twists and a lot of back story. I appreciated the ending it was sweet and simple.

Last Girl Ghosted was such a fun, page turning thriller. Once I got started, I could not stop turning the pages to see how it was all going to shake out!

Wren is a popular blogger/podcaster known as "Dear Birdie" who gives advice to others. She meets Adam through a dating app for hookups not expecting anything serious but finds herself going on dates and feeling connected to him. After really feeling a connection to him, she opens up to him and reveals a part of herself to him that she doesn't share with almost anyone only to find herself ghosted by him. He is gone without a trace. Profiles deleted, phone disconnected, apartment was never really his, etc. Then she gets a visit from an investigator who is looking into the same man as a potential connection into several other girls' disappearance who had similar meetings with him. But to Wren something just doesn't add up. Can she find Adam and get to the bottom of things? Will she be the last girl he ghosts?

This book was such a crazy ride? The twists and turns of this one kept me guessing and wanting to know more. I was literally at the edge of my seat at times wanting to know what was going to happen! The writing style where Wren was literally writing to Adam in a "you" style was so unique and interesting. It immediately captured my attention and I wanted to know why it was written that way.

This was my first book by Lisa Unger but I am itching to read more from her. The only thing that kept me from giving this book 5 stars is I felt the story wandered a little bit at parts needlessly. I felt like this book could have been about 50 pages shorter and would have kept that suspense level just as high. Overall though I really enjoyed this book and would recommend this one to anyone who loves a good thriller.
