4 Stars. This is definitely a book that you shouldn’t start unless you have a completely free afternoon. Every chapter is action packed and leaves you wanting to know more. Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy, I will definitely be recommending this one to everyone I know

I read this book in one sitting, it is so good and such a quick read because it is impossible to put down. It was crammed full with tension, suspense and mystery I loved it

This fitted in beautifully with a cold September day, so I was snuggled up reading this and thanking my lucky stars that I do not have friends like this. It was so good I read it in one morning session.

The book was so atmospheric and flowed so well. There were some amazing plot twists which I cant share as these will be spoilers.

Thank you so much to Harper Collins and netgalley for this advance copy but the review is entirely my own.

Thanks to netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the advance copy of this book. I love thrillers and this one did not disappoint. It started off a little slow but it got much better and I couldn't put it down. I finished it one day. It had a lot of twists and I wasn't really sure who was responsible until closer to the end.

Six adventure seeking friends think they have found the perfect location for a bonding, rock climbing weekend. Shell Island, only miles off the coast of northwest England, seems like the perfect location. There’s an abandoned lighthouse, miles of cliffs and a bunkhouse for visitors.

Things start to go wrong soon after Lyndsey, Sonia, Bobbie, Amanda, Juliet, and Val arrive. During the first rappelling experience, Amanda is injured in a fall that may or may not have been an accident. Then the bunkhouse turns out to be primitive and poorly heated. Marne, the bird warden who is supposed to greet them, is nowhere to be found. Next an unexpected storm blows in and the women are trapped inside by wind and driving rain and must wait for a two days until the boat returns for them. Then the accidents begin…

Full of secrets, The Weekend Escape is a locked room or island mystery. Although Lyndsey is the main character, the other women are well described and play an integral part in what happens. Shell Island, said to be haunted, is a creepy and atmospheric location. As you read, you can almost feel the pelting rain running down your face. The plot builds to a totally shocking conclusion. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK and Rakie Bennett for this ARC.

Thank you to Harpercollins UK/One More Chapter for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Weekend Escape by Rakie Bennett is a gripping mystery and the perfect vacation read! The story revolves around a group of 6 friends who decide to get together after years of not seeing each other. They were all friends in high school but drifted apart over the years, so they decided to have a girls' trip and reunion in a remote location. Now, they're on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere. The only other person on the island is a bird warden, and her radio doesn't even work. When people started getting injured and even killed, the other women have to figure out who the murderer is before they're all dead. Who would want them dead? And what deep, dark secrets are they hiding from each other?

Here is a chilling excerpt from the Prologue, which is a flash-forward to the end of the book:

"‘I drowned,’ Lyndsey said, then amended, ‘I almost drowned. They’re worried I’ve got water in my lungs. Also, shock. They tell me I’m in shock, from … everything.’ She made a half-hearted gesture towards the clumpy bandage covering half of her face.
‘Can you tell us how it happened?’
Lyndsey looked away. The bright lights on the monitor at her bedside were blurry. She realised she was crying.
The police officer put a comforting hand on Lyndsey’s arm, just below where the cannula was taped down. ‘It’ll be all right. Just take it slow.’
Lyndsey couldn’t blink away the tears."

Overall, The Weekend Escape is an unputdownable mystery that will appeal to fans of Kiersten Modglin. love books that are set in creepy locations, and the deserted island definitely fits the bill. I was also deeply invested in the mystery and figuring out who the murderer was. I had to keep reading and could not put this book down. I did take off 1 star because I found it really difficult to keep track of the characters. There are 6 women on this island vacation, and there weren't really any characteristics that helped me distinguish them from each other, besides Lyndsey, who is pretty much the focus on the narration. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the mystery aspect of this book. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of mysteries in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in October!

Tons of suspense and twists and turns sum up this great suspense novel. Characters are mysterious and interesting and plot line was very well written and well thought out and detailed. Kept me guessing until the very end. Highly recommend!!!

Thank you @netgalley and @harpercollinsuk for the ARC of this novel.

For starters I loved that this book got going right away. We are there on the island with all the characters from the get go & we learn about them as the story progresses. Slowly the secrets & past issues start bubbling up & tensions rise as the weather worsens. I did guess the solution fairly early on but that didn’t diminish the talent the author has. I really enjoyed the book overall. This is great thriller to cozy up with a blanket & a cup of tea & tear through in an afternoon!

I kind of went back and forth on this one?! This book had suspense , action, and a decent storyline but it didn't get my heart pumping and have me on the edge of my seat! Like I said its definitely a decent read and worth reading but it was just ok for me! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

Who did it? Who is guilty? Is someone else on the island? This book was sent to me by Netgalley on Kindle for review. It is like the Agatha Christie And Then There Were None kind of...sort of...not quite but almost. This is a quick read with intriguing characters...a long ago mystery involving several friends on an island...close to the coast but not enough...stranded?? This was fun to guess...the ending was a surprise or was it? Tons of questions...read the book and determine for yourself the answers.

Wow. I loved this novel.
A deserted island, a vicious storm, a murderer amongst friends…
It was meant to be a fun reunion, a chance for six friends to reconnect and relive the adventures that brought them together in the first place. But from the moment they arrive on their island home for the weekend, Lyndsey, Sonia, Bobbie, Amanda, Juliet, and Val realise that their paradise is filled with peril, and there are consequences when you try to outrun the ghosts of your past.
As everything starts to fall apart, and the friends begin to turn against one another, deep, dark secrets are revealed, and an unimaginable horror is unleashed. They came seeking adventure, but now they’ll be lucky to leave with their lives.
I think it's a different novel amongst the novels present out there.
Thanks to NetGalley and One More Chapter for giving me an advance copy.

I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I have always enjoyed a good thriller, especially one where everyone is somewhere remote like an island or has become remote due to inclement weather, etc, so I was very excited to read this whodunnit. It starts off with a bang and doesn’t stop till the bitter end. I couldn’t put it down and finished it in a few hours.
