Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this extended sampler of Gilded by Marissa Meyer!

Please note that this is a sampler of the first 10 chapters, and that is all this review will be based on. Reading the sampler had me yearning to read the rest of this book. I love Marissa Meyer's characters so much, and I know the rest of the book will be just as good as the first 10 chapters were.

This sample only had me drooling for more! I can't wait to read the rest of the story, I can't tell it's going to be another amazing read by Marissa Meyer.

So so good! I have already added this to my list of upcoming purchases and I can’t wait to read the rest of this book and see what transpires between Serilda and the Erlking. Loved how quickly the action started happening from the get go, no slow burn here, drawing me immediately to the story. The author’s writing was very descriptive and I could imagine every character and the whole story in my head easily. I will always have room for a fantasy read that is an excellent read for both myself, as an adult, and my teenager!

Thanm you to Netgalley for providing me with a sampler ARC of this book.. I appreciate that samplers that can be requested now. It's so nice. Getting a sweet peek into a book that intrigues you is one of the best things.

The premise of this books is so intriguing, resembling a nice folktale you'd find from a Grimm's brother. I love that sort of thing. Especially when they are about a world that involves both humans and "other" creatures. Mystical and magical and fantastical.

The setting of the book is also a favorite sort of mine. Girl in a small village in an older era where technology is yet to exist and everything is grown/made by hand and hard labor.

Where the trouble comes in for me and this story is, unfortunately, the main character. Her voice, her reasoning, her thinking is all very...young. So young that I thought the beginning of the book was a flashback to the MC's younger years where she was like 8-years-old. I felt no connection to her in the amount of the book I was given to read, and I am a very character driven reader. BUT perhaps she will grow through the rest of the book and that her young voice is purposeful. I have hope.

I love Marissa Meyer so you can be sure that I loved this book. I do not normally read fantasy but I would say this was pretty good. I liked the main character and how she wasn't always perfect. It makes it seem more real. The storyline was also like something I have never read before, so I have to give her props for that.

Interesting but somewhat not really my cup of tea. A mix of Harry Potter with a magical journey through a world that has mystique intrigue and lies behind every corner. Well written. *I did read just the sampler* I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The sampler extends so far as to build the world of Gilded and ends as it reaches the familiar fairy-tale turning point. This provides a lot of time to get to know the main character, Serilda.
Serilda has an untroubled demeanor that disguises her kindness and quick wit; it feels a little offputting at times but ultimately fits well with the story world. Her characterization felt like something that may eventually become plot-related, either sometime after the sampler pages or perhaps later in the series.
The start felt slow to me, but I am certainly intrigued and interested in reading the rest of the story! I’m fascinated to see where it aligns with and diverges from Rumpelstiltskin!

Ooooooo I've always been a fan of Marissa Meyer's books and I'm so interested in seeing this new series.

When I heard Marissa Meyer was once again doing a fairy tale retelling, I was hyped. the Lunar Chronicles are some of my favorite books and I love the way she weaves the original tale in with a new fresh take.

When I heard Gilded was going to follow Rumpelstiltskins story, I was even more excited. Because I barely know Rumples story (unless you count once upon a time's version which i couldnt tell you how accurate that is).

But this teaser - was just enough to make the wait until final publication AGONY. We get to meet our protagonist Serilda and get a taste of the fantasy and fun to come. The world feels vibrant and alive and i can't wait to dive deeper into this story to see where this story will take us.

this review is based on the sampler which i had medium hopes for.. and yet this book blew my expectatiosn out fo the water. It was magical and paranormal. It appears to be a new telling of Rumpelstiltskin in terms of spinning gold but also intrigue. loved it

This sampler of the first 10 chapters has me anxiously waiting to read the rest. Marissa Meyer really knows how to create characters that stick with you and that you love.

This sampler got me so excited for the pub date in November! I already know that this will be a five-star read for me. I'm already hooked, more proof that Marissa Meyer is a magical writer.

So far, the main character Serilda is fantastic. She already pretty well developed so I can't wait to learn more about her in the rest of the book. Her world is starting to be built and it already feels like a fairy tale. This book is a Rumplestiltskin and a few other stories retellings and I am here for it!

Note - this is not set the Lunar Chronicles world so you don't need them to enjoy this book but while you're waiting for this one to be published, you should probably just pick those up.

I love this and I already know that it's going to be another awesome 5-star read that will be another favorite of mine. Marissa Meyer is one of my favorite authors and I can't wait to read the rest of this story. Serilda is a great character and this sample ended on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to find out the rest. This is a great retelling and it's like a mix of story retellings of Rumplestiltskin, The Bear, and the Nightingale, Wintersong, and Erlking vibes. This is the perfect read for the fall and winter with the cold, crisp autumn air around the corner. Thanks so much to MacMillan Children's Publishing Group/Feiwel & Friends and NetGalley for letting me read and review this fantastic extended sampler.

Marissa Meyer is truly the queen of fairytales retold. I was immediately captivated by the character of Serilda. She presents a complex character who seems to be less than good. And the world building that Meyer does is amazing. I am looking forward to finding out how she continues to build this dark and mysterious world.

The first few chapters already have me hooked. Marissa Meyer’s retellings are some of my favorites. I can’t wait to read the full book!

I just devoured the extended sampler within an hour... while at work... Shhh tell no one.

This is my first time reading anything by Marissa Meyer. I have had the Lunar Chronicles on the TBR for years but not taken the time to dive into that world. But when I saw the cover of Gilded (it's stunning!) and the extended sampler on Net Galley, I decided to give it a try.

The past hour I feel as if I've been put under a spell. Honestly. I have been drawn into this world, hearing the snow crunch and the saliva drip from a hellhound's jaw. Marissa is a skillful writer. in just the first few pages I knew I would be hooked. I didn't know it was a fairy tale retelling until the mention of turning straw into gold. Which is totally fine! I am in love with cheeky Serilda and am excited to see what else she gets into.

Once I get the full book and finish the story, I'll update my review :)

I received the sampler for free from NetGalley

Although this is only the first few chapters, I can definitely say that I am totally hooked after reading this preview. Meyer does a wonderful job of spinning the opening of a story to capture the reader. Even knowing the source material (Rumplestiltskin), I can already tell that there will be twists, turns, and complications that I won't expect, and that our heroine will have much more of a role to play in her own adventure. Can't wait to read what happens next!

Of all the fairy tale retellings, I never thought that I would hear one about Rumplestiltskin. So naturally, this had me interested. In this preview of Gilded, I was introduced to beautiful world building. This is truly a work that feels like a fairy tale. I’m entranced already and cannot wait to read the rest of the book. The world set up before me is a fascinating one. I’m ready to see what magic is ahead of me.

I really enjoyed this sample. I read it so quickly and I'm dying to get the next part! It's keeps you intrigued and enthralled through out the entire thing! Unfortunately I don't have a ton of thoughts though because it's only a sampler. So my apologies for the short review...

A beautiful retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. And this cover is gorgeous. The imagination and story telling had me hooked and I'm hoping to read the remaining chapters.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, Feiwel & Friends for the extended sampler of this book.
