Ok, I’m sufficiently intrigued! I love a strong, slightly silly heroine and a dark retelling of a fairytale. Looking forward to picking up a copy but wishing I didn’t have to wait so long.

Marissa Meyer has done it again! Loved this sneak peak! It was so good, and I can't wait for the book to be released. Retold fairy tales are one of my favorite genres, and Meyer does it so well. Can't wait to see where she takes this.

Gilded was an intriguing look into Marissa Meyer’s new book! I love the story of Rumpelstiltskin, so I immediately jumped at the chance to read this extended sampler. The world within is magical and dangerous. It follows Serilda as she gains a reputation for a storyteller. The only problem is, no one believes her when she meets the Erlking one night. Serilda is in deep trouble when put to the test about whether she can truly spin straw into gold. I was very interested to see what would happen next with the boy she summoned! This story seems like it draws on classic aspects of well-known fairytales, but with an attention to detail and characters that can only come from Marissa Meyer. I will definitely look forward to Gilded releasing this fall! Gilded releases November 2, 2021. Thank you to Marissa Meyer, Feiwel & Friends, and Netgalley for a free extended chapter sampler in exchange for honest feedback.

OMG! When queen of retellings decided to write about Rumpelstilskin, only thing you can do is clapping, hurraying this decision and getting extremely exciting about this book!

I didn’t simply read 64 pages of this extended sampler of the book! I just devoured it! It was the happiest 28 minutes of my life! But when it ends with magical cliffhanger: two characters’ meeting at a dungeon in extremely difficult circumstances, the only thing I achieved was scream-crying; because I needed more, I wanted more, I literally craved more!

This is fascinating start of legendary retelling! I think this has great potential to be my favorite fantasy book of the year! I cannot wait to read the rest of it!

So many thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group/ Feiwell& Friends for sharing this extended sampler with me in exchange my very honest opinions.

Upon seeing that Marissa Meyer’s new book would available for preview, I was absolutely sold. Her books have a special place in my heart and I couldn’t be more excited for a chance at a sneak peek!

The premise takes a spin on a classic fairytale (as do most of her books): Rumpelstiltskin. It incorporates various elements from German mythology which I found to be very interesting and really takes the inspiration for this book back to its roots.

Meyer also introduces an exciting new fantasy world which I can’t wait to explore when the book officially debuts! My sole hang-up is probably the main character, Serilda, who, to me, seems a little too naive? As the preview was only a small portion of the book, I’m hoping she will undergo some rigorous character development.

Overall, this is a promising new book and I would definitely recommend picking up a copy when it comes out!

I received an extended sampler on NetGalley for review.

Wasn't really sure where else to post it since there's not a "book" listed for the exact one yet.

We meet Serilda, a girl of 18, cursed or blessed by the God of Lies, giving the pupils of her eyes the look of having gold spokes. Because of this curse or blessing, you can never tell with gods- she tells wild stories, which get more elaborate with each retelling. Although some of them begin with a kernel of truth, buried beneath.
But one night she is awakened by the Wild Hunt of the Erlking who is hunting the creatures of the forest. Aiding two of them in refuge, she accidentally comes face to face with the Erlking himself and fibs to cover her story of why she is foolish enough to be outside at night.

Not fooling anyone, and knowing what he was robbed of he comes to collect her, declaring she hold up to her claims, or forfeit her life.

There were 10 chapters in this, they moved fairly quickly. And a certain magic boy shows up right in our 10th chapter to clearly strike a bargain, or just to mess with the Erlking. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. Serilda is smart, quick to adapt and because of her gift, very good with convincing words.

I adored The Lunar Chronicles so I was quite excited to see another retelling from Marissa Meyer! Although I felt like this sampler was slow, it was meant to world-build how Serilda ended up in Rumpelstiltskin. The story truly begins picking up once the stakes are raised: Serilda goes from being a simple girl who tells lies to one that got in a lie too big, she's now fighting for more than just her own life. I'm excited to see the rest of the story as the author has such a way to telling an atmospheric story. I look forward to seeing Serilda's character development as well as this snippet didn't yet cover it!

The first 10 chapters of this book is not enough because I am hooked on this book and need the rest of it. I love how dark and magical Gilded feels. Cannot wait for the release of Gilded so I can finish the story.

Another win for Marissa Meyer, Gilded takes the framework of a familiar "Once, Upon a Time" story and spins it in an entirely new way. Don't pick this up until you have time to spend, you'll want to binge-read this page-turner all the way to the end.

We all know Marissa Meyer is the master of the fairytale retellings. Well, she’s back at it—this time with a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the first ten chapters and this is what I can tell you about it.
Serilda is an eighteen-year-old girl who lives with her father in a small house on the outskirts of a remote town. During the day she helps at the school, but her greatest joy comes in spinning tales. She regales the schoolchildren, townspeople, even her father, with stories that grow continuously more fantastical.
One night, a noise from outside pulls Serilda from her bed. Before she knows it, she finds herself face-to-face with the Erlking who is in the middle of the wild hunt. Filled with fear, she does what comes naturally—she spins a tale and walks away unscathed. But the Erlking doesn’t take kindly to being made fool of and their next encounter may prove more than Serilda can lie her way out of.
Marissa Meyer has set up a deeply dark and dangerous world. Gilded promises to be another brilliant novel set in a world that is so familiar, yet so much more than we ever imagined and I can’t wait to read the rest!
