Marissa Meyer wrote one of my favorites series, The Lunar Chronicles and one of my least favorite trilogy Renegades, so I was a little wary when I started reading this sample.
But I shouldn’t have been because right in the first chapter I fell in love with Serilda and this amazing world Marissa created.

Serilda was touched by the god of lies and as thus love to spin tales and stories to the people of her village, just as it happens one day two moss maidens appears at her door in the middle of the night, they are being hunted by the wild hunt, a group of bloodthirsty warriors who thrives on killing animals and creatures alike.

Serilda help those two moss maidens by lying to the Erlking, the leader of the wild hunt and it was then that I knew Serilda would became one of my favorites characters, I love her energy and cleverness, she’s such a fun character to follow around, I can’t wait to know what she’s doing next, what tales she’s going to spin and how she’s going to get out of the stick situation she got herself in.

But while the character were good the best part of the sample was Marissa writing, it’s so very whimsical and magical that I was transported to this foreign land covered in snow and filled with magical creatures and mysterious forests.

Waiting to read the full book in November it’s going to be torture, I already know it’s going to became a favorite.

Thank you for the free preview ARC. I cannot wait for the book to come out, I have loved the series and this one does not disappoint. I would like to do my review after I read the book.

I liked the writing style of how easy it was to read because it actually read like a fairy tale to me. I found the story overall to be very compelling despite the fact that I do not know the tale of Rumpelstiltskin very well. I wish this were the full book because it ended on a cliffhanger but know that I will be awaiting for this title to be published in November!

I sadly could not get into this. I think because it's a fantasy and it's only a sampler, there wasn't a whole lot to draw my attention in to want to read more. The ending of the last chapter was a little bit of a cliffhanger that made me curious how the rest of the book would go, but it still wasn't enough to really reel me in.

I recieved the first ten chapters of Gilded by Marissa Meyer in exchange for a review.

Years ago, I was a fan of Meyer's Lunar Chronicles series. I find Meyer des her best work with her fairy tale retellings. During the first ten chapters, the setting and magic system was fleshed out very well. The character of Serilda, a young woman who has been cursed/blessed with the ability to tell such amazing stories, to the point that everyone thinks she is lying, is shaping up to be a great lead. The writing style is classic Meyers and this is shaping up be a fantastic retelling of Rumplestiltskin.

The full novel drops November 2, 2021.

I received a 10 chapter preview from NetGalley so I can only speak to the beginning. I could see this one becoming as popular as Cinder. I enjoyed this so far and can’t wait for the book to come out so I can’t finish it.

I was already so excited for this book and this sampler only made me more excited. Marissa Meyer doesn't miss. I can't wait to delve into the full story and let her break my heart once again.

As a huge fan of Marissa Meyers retellings when I saw this extended sampler I had no choice but to read it and I'm so glad I did!
I love Rumpelstiltskin so this was already going to be an auto-buy but now I'm even more excited for it's release in November. I can't wait to read this in full!

Being a long-time fan of Marissa Meyer and her works, I'm really excited for her latest book, 'Gilded', a Rapunzel-retelling that takes place in the magical world of Serilda, and is told through a folklore-style of writing. All the thanks to Netgalley and Feiwel & Friends for providing me with the extended sampler. The setting and magic system seem well fleshed out, as far as I can tell from just the first few chapters, and I can't wait for the whole book to release in November!

Gilded Excerpt review

Marissa Meyer is an insta-buy for me. I love her characters, her world building, and her plotting. Gilded is no exception, it took me all of three chapters to be all-in for Serilda.

Serilda has been cursed/blessed by the god of lies with a silver tongue. She tells stories that enchant the children of her village. But one night, she tells the wrong sort of tale to the wrong sort of listener...the Erlking.

I love fairytale retellings, but I wasn’t sure how excited I was for a Rumplestilskin retelling. That is, until I watched Meyer’s Instagram announcement and found out that she’s made her main character into a storyteller. I am a sucker for writers writing about characters who tell stories.

One of my favorite parts of Meyer’s books is the way she weaves in romance without sacrificing plot or world building. I cannot wait to find out who the love interest is in this one! And what happens next!

I thought long and hard (for a whole five minutes) about requesting this excerpt. Not because I didn’t want to read it - I knew I did. I have been a Marissa Meyer fangirl since Cinder was first released and have read almost everything she has ever written. (I generally don’t read short stories and graphic novels...but might make an exception for her, let’s be honest.) No - this wasn’t an issue of if I would read or review it. It was an issue of me reading 10 chapters and then waiting three and a half months to read the rest. That’s almost 100 days. This is cruel. Please send me the rest, I beg of you.

First off, thank you to NetGalley for this extended sampler.

I am extremely excited to read the rest of this book if the sampler was this good. The world building and setting is perfect, and the character Serilda is very well written. It usually takes me a minute to get into a book, but I was quite hooked by the first few chapters. This modern retelling of a classic folklore tale of Rumpelstiltskin is something I haven't seen. I'm very much looking forward to reading the rest of this book as it has captivated me from the get go. Very well done.

I saw Marissa Meyer's name and I immediately requested this sample for her new upcoming book. Although this book preview only offered the first five chapters of the story, I found myself engorssed by everything!

So here are the things that I liked from what little I could read:
- the setting
- the character of Serilda
- the folklore element
- the writing style

Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this title!

Normally with Marissa Meyer's books, it takes me a good 100-200 pages to actually get into the book. I was hooked by this one in the first five chapters. The setting and character of Serilda is very well laid out. I love the folklore feel Gilded seems to have in comparison to Meyers' other books of superheroes and modern/futuristic retellings. I'm not noticing as many errors in the writing as I did when I recently read her Renegades series, so that is an improvement on Meyers's writing (and maybe copy editor's job as well). I really like Serilda as a character and I'm anxious to see more of her journey. Overall, I really cannot wait to read more of this!

First, when I seen the synopsis I just had to read this! Plus it’s a Marissa Meyer, I loved the Lunar Chronicles. This extended review did not disappoint. I can’t wait to see how this story ends. I am really enjoying this take on Rumpelstiltskin.
I just reviewed Gilded - EXTENDED SAMPLER! by Marissa Meyer. #Gilded #NetGalley

Fantastic! Can’t wait to read the full book! So much depth and a wonderful story. Wish I was able to read the whole book now

I was already excited about this book, but now I'm even more!

From the very beginning, the story grabs you and doesn't let go. Just like Marissa, Serilda has a talent for spinning the most fantastical tales, to the point that everyone thinks her a liar. This particular talent will put her in big trouble, though, as she spins a tale to none other than the Erlking.

And if you know Rumplestiltskin, you know where this is headed. But I am so excited to see what turn Meyer will give this story. I loved the Lunar Chronicles and how she adapted it to such a futuristic setting, now I want to see what will become of Serilda.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I was SO EXCITED to see this extended preview available on NetGalley, thank you so much to them and the publishers for providing me with this eARC in exchange for an honest review. All the opinions are my own.

This new story by Marissa Meyer reminds me of a fairy tale…albeit a super dark fairy tale. Which I am pleased about since it’s very on brand for all Meyer’s stories I know and love. I think think one is a Rumplestiltskin retelling, again with the dark twist. The first ten chapters was a great treat but it only made me hungrier for more! Crossing my fingers that my wish will be granted for this one!

Thank you NetGalley and MacMillan for a sample of Marissa Meyers’ newest fairytale retelling, “Gilded.”

In this retelling of Rumplestiltskin, Serilda has been cursed by the god of lies, and spins fantastic tales to all who will listen. When she meets the Erlking on his Wild Hunt under the full moon, she tells him that she can spin straw into gold. Then, on the next full moon, he summons her to his castle, demanding that she make true on her word or he will kill her and her father.

I am a huge fan of the Lunar Chronicles, and was very intrigued to read Marissa’s take on this classic tale. After reading the first 10 chapters, I am ready to read the rest! We spend the majority of these first 10 chapters learning of Serilda’s curse and learning of the dark creatures that live in the forest next to her village. This book already reads much darker than the Lunar Chronicles, but in a great way! Set to publish November 2, 2021, I cannot wait to read how Marissa’s retelling will play out.

Meh, this sample was fine. It was a bit middle of the road, felt really young (more middle grade than YA to me). Not sure if I'll pick this one up.

**Thanks Netgalley for the sample!** Marissa Meyer is a master at fairytale retellings. Seriously, she is the best out there. When I saw this Rumpelstiltskin retelling available as a sample it was an immediate click! Of course the samples are never long enough, and I can't wait to read the rest!
