This is book 3 in a series and I haven't read the first 2, but based on how quickly this book sucked me in, I need to go read the first 2 asap! I couldn't put it down, it was twisty, people were lying, I didn't know what was going to happen next.. I was entertained and didn't feel too lost having not read the first 2 so I think it can be a standalone easily.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book!!

These types of thrill rides chockful of suspense and red herrings are my reading jam.  With a grisly murder, a confession from a guy who just doesn't smell like a killer and a whole host of hooks leading back into Falco's past the author keeps readers guessing almost till the very end.
A house fire burned a mother and a young child, the father an undercover policeman was away from home but returned in time to get burned trying to save his wife and child.  Shortly after he confessed to setting the fire and murdering his wife and child.  Apparently, all had not been smooth in the marriage per his mother-in-law.  His mother being one of the biggest flies in the ointment.
But murder? it just doesn't ring true for Devlin and Falco who catch the case and are determined to find the truth. The trail soon leads to Falco's past, a past he seems to be reluctant to share with Devlin with whom he now has a romantic relationship.  A dark past that he doesn't seem to have quite come to terms with himself.  As the darkness rises and almost seems to engulf Falco, Devlin holds strong and supports her partner in the best way she knows how while trying to keep them both safe and working the case.
A convoluted story emerges which will leave readers gasping. If you like a good suspense and a solid relationship, then this book is for you. I am sorry to see this series end.

The third book in the Devlin & Falco series finds Kerri and Luke taking their personal relationship to a new level while trying to protect their professional relationship. When they arrive at the scene of a double homicide where a mother and child are dead, the father, a former undercover agent, takes responsibility. However, as they investigate, it becomes obvious that no one is telling the truth. The deeper they search, the more Luke realizes his past is going to come to light and wreck his relationship with Kerri. Can they solve the crime and remain partners at work and home?

Another great story of Kerri and Luke solving a crime. I enjoyed this book, although at times it was a little too slow of a build up.

This is the third book of a series based on two detectives. Unlike the other two, I guessed the killer in this story sooner but still liked how the story unfolded.

Can't Go Back (Devlin & Falco #3) by Debra Webb

Birmingham detectives Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco investigate the murder of a woman and her kid, killed by fire. Everyone they talk to have something to hide and make their personal life also difficult. Although third book in the series and have the same characters, if you are want a good murder mystery, you can try this one 🙌

I am so disappointed that this is the last installment in this series. Not only because I think there is so much more potential for these characters, but also because sadly, this was my least favorite in the series.

Don't get me wrong, I love it when things aren't quite what they seem. I love a good tragic backstory. And I love it when the author throws in a good red herring (or two). However, this story just seemed to be too much all at once. To the point that even though I have been with these characters since the beginning, I at times found myself confused.

I enjoyed learning more about Falco's past, and I wish we had seen more of that play out. I felt like seeing that part of him made a lot of his character and his motivations make more sense. In addition, it also gave us a glimpse into some of the other characters that were involved in the present case (some of which like Dog and O'Grady I would have liked to know more about).

I also enjoyed the way that the author made it possible to empathize (to an extent) with the choices certain characters made. You could immediately tell that while their actions were wrong, the reasoning behind said actions were justified. This was another case however where I wanted more background. It was implied that these two were working together - what caused that (other than the obvious as it would have been easy for one party to point the finger at another party and paint them as guilty).

And while I liked seeing how Devlin and Franco were navigating their relationship, I am curious how their future would be possible. I can't imagine they would be allowed to continue working together as partners without it potentially becoming a conflict.

Overall, I enjoyed this series, and I would definitely read more from this author!

This is book 3 in the Devlin and Falcon series by Debra Webb.
Can't go back is a slow mystery with secrets being kept by everyone Devlin. Falcon has a darker past he isn't read to share with Delvin. With the romance new and the murder investigation pointing towards Falcon past the story blends mystery romance and a lot of scary people.
Debra Webb series is a must read for Police/ Mystery readers.

Can't Go Back has a good plot, and is a well-written story where the unclear past comes to haunt the present and is a real threat to destroy a career and a relationship. Mistakes from the past keep being brought up during the investigation of an arson/murder case. Those involved do not tell all they know and new crimes appear and get tangled up with the previous one. The characters and situations are relatable and among all the cruelty and difficulties encountered during the unveiling of the culprits, there is also a dash of romance.
Easy-to-read and entertaining!

Can't go Back, by Debra Webb, is suspenseful mystery, romance that kept me hooked until the end. There are just enough clues to keep you interested while you're trying to solve the mystery. So, while the ending isn't a complete shock, I didn't feel that it was predictable, either.
A husband has confessed to murdering his wife and daughter but the evidence seems to point in a very different direction. Now Detectives Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco are on the hunt to figure out why he's confessed and what really happened. As each new lead reveals itself the detectives work to to follow up on every single one. This includes the unsettling relationship that Falco's haunted past appears to have to these murders.
Since there’s a murderer out there, Devlin and Falco must work past the pain to find the truth. If they could just figure out why all the key players are lying, they might actually get somewhere towards solving this case.

Can't Go Back is Debra Webb's third and final instalment in her series featuring Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco.

The police investigation into a fire at the family home of the Boothes on Chablis Way where a loving wife and young daughter die will test the detectives' relationship. At first, the fire appears to be a tragic accident. However, as Luke and Kerri question people, anomalies arise. There are buckets of secrets, hidden motives, misdirection, lies and cover-ups in this twisted family drama. Many lives are impacted by the house fire and deaths and the suspect list is a long one including the distraught husband, Logan; Jana Scott, Allison's mother; a helpful elderly neighbour, Phileas Crandall. Set in Birmingham, Alabama, the tale delves deep into Luke and Kerri's personal lives, past and present. Luke grapples with his former life undercover in narcotics whilst Kerri is attempting to trust herself to love again. Devlin and Faldo work very well together and both are hard-working and professional. A great, dark, complex and suspenseful police procedural mystery you won't want to miss, even if, like me, you haven't yet read the first two instalments.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Thomas & Mercer via NetGalley at my own request. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

This is the third book in a series; it can be read as a standalone but has spoilers if you're going to go back to read the first or second one.

This story has so many twists and turns. It was an exciting, fast paced read. I liked this one the best of the series, which surprised me because of the romantic arc. Once I realized this is the final book in the trilogy, I was on board though. I hope Sadie gets her own series. Maybe with Dog. LOL.

Kerri and Luke are partners on the police force and at home. While they are keeping their relationship secret at work they also don’t let it affect their jobs. They are called by the chief to solve the murder of a mother and child of a former police officer.

This is the third book in a series but could be a standalone book. I really enjoyed the detective work by the pair. There were a lot of suspects but I’ll admit I did not see the ending coming.

This is a very solid crime thriller with a little romance thrown in. I throughly enjoyed this book and will be reading the other books in the series.

As usual with her two previous books, Debra Webb didn’t disappoint her readers. Many twists and turns to the story of who set the fire. The reader can read this book even if they haven’t read her previous two with the same characters.

Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco are back again with a mystery that will digs deep into Luke's undercover days. Luke's past isn't something he wants to talk about and the reader finds out why in Can't Go Back.

Like the previous books in the series, the real attraction for me is the attraction between the two detectives. It's attraction based on mutual respect and it is totally sexy in a very understated way. I enjoy reading romance as well as suspense and crime drama, so their relationship adds something for this reader.

Can't Go Back is a terrific ending to this series. The criminal investigation is not trivial or straight-forward and I liked that about it. And Luke Falco is terrific as Kerri's partner. His respect and affection for Kerri is a very solid foundation for this series.

Can't go back.
By Debra Webb

Another fabulous book by one of my very famous favorite authors.
always well written..

Back in Birmingham Alabama.
with detectives Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco. These detectives don't give up until they've uncovered every last detail of the crime. Sometimes it's more than they Suspect. Goes deeper than anyone realizes.

Luke Falco,
Detective, Has a back story of his own. 8 years ago working for another LT. Things weren't always as they should have been.. A world that Luke Wanted to get away from.
Things that cost him his family.
Stuff happened that are foggy in his memory. Now wants to clear those things up.

A mother and her daughter murdered the house set on fire.
This is the case for devilin and Falco.

Kerri Devlin along with detective Falco have a case to solve, Each time they think they get ahead of the case it's back to square one. Finding the killer is going to be tough.
But in the end. It's a total shocker and what a twist because because no one saw this one coming...

And always having your neighbors keep a eye out for you.. But in the end can you trust your neighbors. Because one never knows who they can or can't trust... Because you can't ever go back..

This was such a fabulous wild ride so many twists and turns you'll never guess who it was until nearly the end.at the end I wish there was going to be a few more books to this detective Stories .love These books.

Thank you Debra Webb 🌹

This was a great detective novel - if you like the Kate Burkholder series by Linda Castillo I definitely recommend you pick this one up. The story moves quickly, and although this is part of a trilogy, you don't need to read the first two novels in order to get into the plot. The relationship between Devlin and Falco is endearing, and the supporting characters are well developed. There isn't too much suspect sleuthing police work afoot here as there can be with some detective novels, it mostly rings very realistic, which I consider a great bonus. There are lots of twists and turns in the case itself, you think you've got it all figured out until....you don't! The last half of the book is fairly action packed as they near a conclusion - and you really won't see the ending coming.

“What’s a Monday morning without a homicide?” This is a police procedural, and a very good one. There is a double homicide which needs to be handled but there is much brewing in the background that threatens to become a distraction. Set in Birmingham, Alabama Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco are either going to solve this case and solidify their relationship or it is all going to blow up and disintegrate. She is mostly by the book and he is unconventional - they are partners and believe in each other. Tangled webs from the past threaten and loom large. Understanding and forgiveness or disaster - maybe neither, maybe a little of each, maybe it starts, maybe it ends.

I am sorry to see the series end but respect the author’s choice to know when to go out on a winning streak. Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for a copy.
