3.5 - Another laugh-out-loud funny book filled with madcap antics. The beginning was a bit slow and it was a little harder to suspend my disbelief for the events of this book compared to the first, but I was still cracking up the whole time.

Four Aunties and a Wedding is the fun follow-up to Sutanto's Dial A for Aunties. I preferred the original—the sequel, with its slapstick humor and mafia storyline, verged on over-the-top. Still, it's a fun romp that had me laughing out loud and rooting for Meddy and her family.

Meddy and her fun and ditzy aunties are back in this new story following their comical debut in Dial A for Aunties! Meddy can’t wait to marry her college sweetheart, but can it really be the day she’s always dreamed of when the mafia gets involved? Especially when they end up being a family impersonating her wedding vendors? This latest story brings the same humor and hijinks that we were introduced to in book one with the addition of bad English slang!

I was definitely not disappointed with the humor that followed Meddy and her family. The British terms the aunties attempted to surprise Meddy and her new in-laws with were hysterical! Meddy’s inner dialogue too was superb as she attempted to balance spending time with her new husband while also trying to stop a mafia family from taking out someone at her wedding. Aside from a few eye rolls at some of the aunties' decisions, it was all great!

DIAL A FOR AUNTIES is still my favorite between the two stories we have so far, mainly because it was a breath of fresh air to read such a funny rom-com. But don’t get me wrong! Four Aunties and a Wedding holds up just as strong, but the magic I felt reading book one just hit differently.

This second book to the adorable Aunties series was all I hoped for and more!! The banter, humor, family and love in this book all take the cake! The culture is perfect and all of these characters have a piece of my heart forever.

I was expecting great things from Sutanto’s follow-up novel to Dial A For Aunties, and this did not disappoint! I was laughing out loud on almost every page at the shenanigans Meddy and the aunties got up to in this one. If you’re looking for something that is guaranteed to give you a boost of serotonin with a side of well-deserved belly-aching laughter, I highly recommend this novel!

I can’t deny it… I love the aunties. Loved them the first time and they didn’t disappoint the second time. I would have been happy with ending at the first book, but adding the second one is a bonus. They characters are hilarious and they would do anything for their family. And I mean ANY THING.

If you're looking for an easy breezy read layered with some of the funniest characters I've met between the pages, look no further!

why my nose was in this book:
the four aunties are back for meddy's wedding bringing the drama, fancy hats, and a whole lot of laughs, especially with things lost in translation
i loved immersing myself in the indo-chinese culture through food, traditions and that so called dangerous art of tai chi
i love meddy and nathan's relationship from the first book and wished that this story didn't focus on their wedding because major mayhem ensues that completely derails their big special day

I will point out that while I did enjoy the story, I was distracted by the underlying setting of Meddy and Nathan's wedding. This was supposed to be the most special day of their lives and it was ruined by the... mafia! I wish that the story centered around another event that wasn't so precious and easily destroyed. I felt like Meddy should've been more upset about the situation. Her passiveness and indecisive character made me want to leap through the pages and shake her.

This book was a cute continuation from its predecessor, Dial A for Aunties. I enjoyed seeing where the beloved characters went next. However, I found this story to lack some of the charm of the first book. It was still funny, outrageous, and heartfelt, but I was left wanting more, especially in terms of character development. However, if you enjoyed the first book, this one definitely has a lot of the same antics that made the first book so much fun, including lots of meddling aunties!

I really wanted to like this more because it is a cute story but damn it’s repetitive as hell. I had to skim so much to get the plot line moving. The author has an amazing voice and each character is very distinct from the others. However, the slapstick comedy in this got to be a little too redundant.

Meddy and the Aunties are back! What's not to love? Hysterical hijinks, wedding shenanigans, the aunties, and a mafia family all make for a thoroughly enjoyable and quick read. Returning to this world was no hardship and I can't wait for more! In a world that's seemed pretty dark for a long while this series is a well deserved hilarious break from the real world.

The aunties are back, y’all!!! 🎉🎉 And they are back in full, hilarious, over-the-top force 🙌🏻⁣

This sequel to Dial A For Aunties was so much fun and soooo completely hilarious. Imagine Meddy’s four outrageous aunts trying to “blend in” with English people by wearing enormous fascinators and adopting British slang 🤣 It’s beyond. Oh, and also, there’s the mafia. And weed. And kidnapping. And so much Tai Chi. ⁣

This is the perfect poolside read: sooo much fun and a barrel of laughs! I so enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what Jesse writes next!!

Thanks to Berkley Romance, the author, and NetGalley for the free gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Dial A for Aunties the first book in the Aunties series, and Four Aunties and a Wedding was a great sequel.

I personally think I liked Dial A for Aunties better, but Four Aunties and a Wedding was also hilarious and fun just like the first one. I love how absolutely chaotic this book gets and it feels like you have no idea what's going on ever.

If you love a dark comedy or a funny murder mystery (is that even a thing?) you will love this story. It is a speedy read because the plot truly keeps you on your toes.

I loved the chaotic campiness of the first book and was so excited to read this one! It did not disappoint. I'm not sure what it is about this book and the first one that just makes my brain feel fuzzy. Maybe it's the wildness? The way things go from zero to 100 that I just love and can keep up with. Also watching a family willing to do whatever it takes for the other to be happy is something that I crave and therefore love reading. This book is about love, mystery and family. Need a fun quick read while on vacation? This is the book.

Dial A for Aunties was just quirky enough to work for me, unfortunately, Four Aunties and a Wedding tipped the scales and was just too campy for me to find enjoyable. A little suspension of disbelief is typically necessary with fiction, I get that, and maybe it’s a cultural disconnect as well, but when you insert the Mafia into this nuttiness… well, my disbelief only goes so far I guess.

Review: I recently read “Dial A for Aunties” - I had owned it forever and it was one of those books I had wanted to read so badly but never made it there. Finally last month I read it … and in one sitting! I was so excited when I received a copy of the sequel that just released - and it was even better than the first. This book series is the perfect blend of humor, mystery, and romance. I laughed out loud on so many occasions and honestly did not want it to end! I hope to read many more installments of Meddy and her family’s antics 🤍

As much as I was looking forward to this sequel I'm having a hard time staying invested with this story line and its not sucking me in like the first book.

Four Aunties and a Wedding is the anticipated follow up to one of my top 10 books of 2021, and I was VERY excited to receive an advanced copy from @netgalley and @berkleypub in exchange for my honest review.

This follow-up has all the auntie comedy and zany crack wackiness you got from the original but turned up to 11. Did I laugh out loud? Yes. Was it ridiculous? Yes. Was it a little over-the-top for me? Yes. Everything just got a little too impossible for me in this one that it lost me a bit. In addition, it was much more predictable than the first.

Still, props to an author who can make me laugh out loud and creates fun and entertaining characters. So it's a thumbs up recommendation but definitely not as good as the first. Looking forward to another installment to Meddy and the Aunties!

I wanted to love this one as much as I loved DIAL A. Although DIAL A FOR AUNTIES still takes the wedding cake, I still enjoyed reading the wild antics of Meddy’s aunties. Instead of wrecking hovac on their clients’ wedding, it’s now Meddy’s.

If you haven’t read my DIAL A FOR AUNTIES review (it was a rave one), although I’m not Chinese-Indonesian, I’m of Chinese-Malaysian culture and there are many similarities when it comes to respect and values. Jesse has an ability to truly capture the love you feel for your (sometimes embarrassing) relatives and the important values they try to instil in your life. The way she weaves those values into hilarious scenarios is👌🏼

This book had me laughing-out-loud again and I’m anxiously waiting another that I can pre-order as soon as it’s announced👀😅

I absolutely adored this book! It was so great being able to see familial support in the way this book was able to express in a way only this series can (....murders at weddings!)

I really liked Dial A for Aunties. Sure, it was absolutely ridiculous, but it made me laugh so much and I all around had a great time. The Aunties were HILARIOUS and I just loved them. I was excited we were going to see more of them in this sequel.

Here’s what I enjoyed:
- I loved the parts about family and culture and embracing your roots and your people.
- The Aunties, particularly in the middle section. Their hijinks are so ridiculous and I laughed quite a bit. I was seeing them so clearly in my mind’s eye. They are going to translate so well for the Netflix movie, I can’t wait.
- Super quick read - I finished it in about a day once I really sat down to read.

Here’s what I struggled with:
- The pacing was all over the place. I almost DNFed after Part 1 because nothing happened. Part 2 picked up and was better, but then the resolution lost me.
- I wanted to more character development - I don’t feel like I know Meddy very well other than in relation to her family, and the side characters didn’t get enough screen time (Selena and Seb just disappeared?).
- Nathan wasn’t in it enough - he was left in the dark about what was going on and barely in it when I wanted to learn more about him.
- The ending/resolution fell flat for me.

Overall, if you liked Dial A for Aunties and just want something funny and quick, then this could be a good one for you. My advice is just to lower your expectations from the first a bit.
