Maya Howard has taken what most people fear as difficult and made it easy to understand! I know many people that think plant-based eating is too complicated so they never even try it. If that's you, give this book a try. Howard has a way of simplifying it for you! You will learn everything from what to eat to how to stock your kitchen so that you will have continued success! I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to add healthy food options to their diet.

I enjoyed this as I discovered there is more to a plant based diet than what I thought and it really made me wonder if this is the plan for me. The recipes looked very interesting and Ms. Howard takes great care in explaining everything.

Thank you NetGalley, Penguin Random House, Zeigeist, and Maya A. Howard for this advance read

Helpful way to start a plant based diet. I like that it was set out in a weekly schedule with the shopping lists and meals written out. good for following to begin until ready to branch out on your own.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I enjoyed this book so much as it was an introduction to plant based eating. The book begins with a somewhat introduction to plant based eating and the benefits (done in a fun way tho) . Then progresses to recipes that were just easy too follow and definitely created to make eating more fun. Highly recommend it for everyone thinking of plant based eating.

“High-Protein Plant-Based Diet for Beginners” is the most helpful guide I have ever seen to help the home cook make the transition from a meat based diet to a plant-based one. Armed with Maya A. Howard’s 4 week meal plan, which includes not only a shopping list and recipes, but also day-by-day instructions for what to prep when, I felt more confident than ever in my ability to prepare a well-balanced plant-based diet that would meet all of my families nutritional requirements.

Many vegetarian cookbooks seem to be written for those already familiar with the vegetarian lifestyle, but I appreciate that this is truly a guide for beginners and that Howard offers such thoughtful insight on how and why a plant-based diet can be so beneficial for our health. I also appreciated her shopping staples and tips on products to avoid!

A true must read for anyone who wants to make a change to a plant-based diet. A cookbook and meal plan that we will return to again and again. I cannot wait to try the first week’s worth of recipes!

Firstly if your are going to sell a cookbook, have a stunning cover like this one that delivers. I appreciate when books give some nutritional nuts and bolts in the beginning for true beginners. I love how there are substitutions given as well as an understanding of expectations. We are given serving size, approximate prep times, equipment requirements, protein amount per meal, conversion chart, tips, nutritional breakdown per serving and how long "cooking" will take. Needs more pictures.

meal plan
There is a meal plan if you choose to use it along with a grocery list that gives quantities of what you will be needing for that week. It is all broken down into categories which is AMAZING! A lot of other books separate them by meal, no don't do that, I'm going to the store where everything is going to be mixed up. It also gives some prep suggestions before that week starts.

actual food
The images we do see are beautiful but you are not going to pull me into trying something effortlessly unless I can see what it might look like.

Chapter 3: Breakfast
>>Ancient Grains with Caramelized Bananas
Chapter 4: Smoothies & Drinks

Chapter 5: Soups & Stews
>>Quick Vegetable Soup
Chapter 6: Main Meals

Chapter 7: Snacks & Desserts

Chapter 8: Everyday Staples

I am eager to try the innovative, protein-rich, recipes in this book that don’t take hours to create. The author has done a great job creating recipes with everyday ingredients plus some easy to find superfoods that all ages can enjoy.

I like how in the first chapter; foods are given along with the recipes given. You can click on the page number and it takes you to that recipe. I like how examples are given along with recipes to replace typical food items. I like how the author gives recipes for each week along with a weekly shopping list. I also like the tips for each recipe.

I am new to the world of vegan cooking, and I would like to do a little bit more of it, as I do feel better when I eat more veggies and less processed food. (Plus, meat is getting expensive!!) This book, from a beginner's point of view, is incredibly helpful. It explains how to figure out how much protein you need, and then tells you ways to do so! I appreciated the meal plans and grocery list sections; a whole month was planned out for you! What I really appreciated was the fact that the author used LEFTOVERS as a part of the meal plan. I don't see that often and requires even more cooking in an already busy life. While it kind of feels like these recipes are for one person to consume (or even two) you can always double the recipes and make it for families. This is the book that I needed to start my almost meat free journey.

For many switching to a plant based diet, it can be difficult to adequately plan nutritional value. Maya Howard offers some great high-protein plant based food ideas for those just starting out. There recipes are easy to make but are not always affordable or readily available, especially with many supply issues.

This is a must-have resource and cookbook! It is full of delicious looking recipes that I can't wait to give a try! This is one I'll return to again and again. Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.

Maya A. Howard's High-Protein Plant-Based Diet for Beginners is near perfection; near only because I have a personal preference of more pictures (even if they are small) so I can visually take in the recipes. Even without the pictures this cookbook is still getting a 5 star from me because of the way Maya lays it all out for a beginner. The best part of this book is not only is there a 4-week meal plan, something that can help take the planning out of it for a new-to plant-based lifestyle and make it easier to stick to, but it includes a shopping list, a time line for when to prepare dishes, and incorporates leftovers as a part of the plan with plenty of variety so it doesn't get repetitive. Maya takes the guess work out of what for some can be a huge change from their lifestyle. I have been vegan (not 100% WFPB) for the better part of two years, this book lays it out in an easy way that can help me make that transition to more WFPB choices into my life. .

Decent book, well written and very informative. I found the lack of pictures to be off putting, when I look for recipes I want to know what they're supposed to look like. The meal plan is a nice touch. The kindle version is linked well, so you can find the recipes. The cooking conversions were also a nice touch.

This is a great book for beginners! I love the “this-or-that” options in some recipes, and the equipment needed is called out. The prep and leftover tips would definitely be helpful for new cooks.

Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

The recipes do look pretty decent. A good add-in if worried about getting enough protein when doing more plant-based.

For couple years I trying to eat healty. But I am not a vegan. This book maybe not for beginner vegan and introduce reader for some fancy ingredients, but still informative. Some recipes is hit or miss for me.

I made it as a vegetarian for roughly three to four years before I had to quit. Why? Lacking enough protein. It greatly upset me at the time. But here’s the rub, I sacrificed vegetarianism for protein yet gained the problem of chronic inflammation. Seriously, it’s a huge problem and it can be painful. So imagine my delight upon seeing a book that addresses both problems, not only addressing them but doing it well. I can be a bit scatterbrained and over complicate certain endeavors, particularly cooking. With this book though? It refuses to be over complicated. It’s well organized and, what I most appreciate, so very straightforward. These are simple yet delicious recipes whose ingredients speak for themselves.

I liked Chapter 1. It lays out all the basics: recommended swaps, best sources of protein, what amino acids are, etc. The author is a wealth of knowledge for a beginner here.

Absolutely Love the meal plan! This is SO WELL LAID OUT that anyone could follow. Weekly: meal plan, grocery list, each recipe and prep timeline. It literally could not be made any easier unless they sent someone out to cook for us (lol).

Recipes: I like that they have "tags" (30 minutes or less, 5 ingredients, gluten free (option), nut free (option), etc); list grams of protein per serving, and required equipment.
I LOVED the Prep Tips and especially the Leftover Tips. Sometimes I'm uncertain the best way to store leftovers or if something freezes well and there are notes on a lot of recipes to answer these things.

The Resources were thorough and I can see myself going back to those pages for more reading materials.

If I had to report negatives, a couple small things I noticed:
For some recipes it is listed in the weekly recipe list when to double a recipe and other times it says to double in the prep instructions.
One "toast" recipe had separate nutrition info for bread vs sweet potato, the very next recipe, also a "toast" recipe, did not.

.....and...... I need more pictures! Photos in cookbooks are my jam, this had several but it was lacking in that aspect, in my opinion.

Big thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for this book! It is 100% up my alley of types of cookbooks I love to read!

As someone who is just starting out on a plant-based diet, this book fits the bill! From meal prep to meal planning, all of the details are included. You will definitely find your protein in the recipes. There are a few hard to find ingredients but that is to be expected. Overall, I think the recipes are easy, fast and a beginner will find helpful on their journey.

I thought this was a great step by step cookbook for those who are trying out plant based diets for the the first time. The recipes seem very easy and Maya Howard does a great job explaining everything that goes with the recipes and what you would need in your kitchen to make these meals.
