Let me say this, i think this is an excellent book. It is captivating as it tells of a families journey in a third world country. It shares the reality of the truth of sharing the Gospel to people who don't get it, don't want it, or need extra understanding to embrace it. It is a tough work to do what this family did. It spent them and that is the part of the book that I connected with. While I love this book, I think this book hits home for those who are actually on the mission field. Those are the people who need to read this book and be encouraged. I think it helps us who are serving overseas to get a taste of what it is like, but those who have....geez, what a resource. Thank you for putting this together.

The Insanity of God is the personal and lifelong journey of an ordinary couple from rural Kentucky who thought they were going on just your ordinary missionary pilgrimage but discovered it would be anything but. After spending over six hard years doing relief work in Somalia, and experiencing life where it looked like God had turned away completely and He was clueless about the tragedies of life, the couple had a crisis of faith and left Africa asking God, "Does the gospel work anywhere when it is really a hard place? It sure didn't work in Somalia.

The book "The Insanity of God" was not the book I had anticipated it to be. I expected that it would talk more about the loss of their son and how they continued to serve God. The reality is that was only a minor part of the book. This book had me evaluating my faith. Could I serve God if everything appeared to be failing? Would I be willing to try day after day?

Nik Ripken asked questions I had thought before. Why do so many Americans not understand that we are all called to live out the great commission? For many, we don't understand "Go" to be personal.

The book highlights the fact that as Americans we are spoiled. We see persecution as the exception to the rule. The reality is that for many people persecution is the rule. Yet it is in the persecution that we see the most growth. When we are growing in the midst of persecution we hold tightly to the lessons we have learned. We must be willing to go...whether we return or not is in God's hands.

This book has already made an impact on me and I know as I continue to ponder the message that I will continue to mine the depths of the message. If you want God to shake up your life this book is definitely one to read!
