This is an interesting bit of history, probably most interesting for people who have already heard about some of the major characters. The actions of the main figure are pretty distasteful, but the author does a good job of maintaining distance and referencing contemporary, not current, standards.

The author keeps the narrative in mostly chronological order, which is easy to follow. She has a surprising level of detail and original sources. The details of middle class daily life in the late 1700s will be interesting to casual researchers.
