I received a complimentary copy of Someone To Catch My Drift in exchange for an honest review. This was not a traditional romance book where it's all "rainbows and unicorns." There were some deep but very realistic temptations that challenged both Nikai and Robert. There were relationship and family issues, with a lot of drama. There were parts that were long winded, but it was worth the read.

This was a good read. Not one i would read again just because i did not like the fact of the other girl. But on another note you never really go wrong with a romance novel.

Although this book felt a little long, I really thinks it still resonates today. I think a lot of women are like Nikai (the story is set in the late 90's I believe) and there are some women that unfortunately still have to deal with situations like this. I felt so bad for Nikai, and truthfully, Robert can kick rocks. ( I am not a fan of his at all from the beginning of the book until the end.) Nikai's growth was great in this story, and I enjoyed the flow of the story as well as the storyline of the book.

I received a copy of the book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.

Someone to Catch My Drift is a romantic drama about Nikai and Robert. We are introduced to Nikai whose life seems to be falling apart when her boyfriend get’s arrested for statutory rape leading her to abort his child. Life’s not worth living after that but she soon gets back to loving part of herself when she meets Robert, a fire fighter who has issues with commitments. Robert is no saint and is caught up in problems of his own like ‘’Situanships’’ with the crazy Karen who traps him with a baby.

Things soon turn from blissful to nightmare when their relationship hits the rocks and are unable to fall apart and come back together. We soon realise that they were not brought together to be forever but to learn from each other. Their lives in general were falling apart to get back together. They were on a journey of self -discovery through each other’s eyes, only sad that there had to be causalities on the way. While this is a romance novel, it clearly urges readers to focus on the self not neglecting your whole being in favour of trying to please others. The book contains various themes like Family, Love, Death, and Spirituality. I enjoyed reading the book however found it tedious with numerous mistakes in grammar.

Someone to Catch My Drift is told in a double narrative. Nikai is having a rough time as she as lost her relationship, her unborn child and the respect of her family. Her luck seems to be changing the night she meets Robert, a tall sexy firefighter. Robert is very attracted to her, and things seem to be looking up. She has to move out of her apartment as it was the apartment of her ex-boyfriend, She moves with her mother although that not a good situation. Her mother always favors her older sister and tells Nikai how perfect her older sister is which is not good for Nikai's self-esteem. Nikai ends up moving in with Robert. At first the relationship is great but then issues develop including a lack of communication. This novel contains heartache and family secrets as well as Nikai trying to discover who she is. It took me awhile to get into the book but once i did, I enjoyed the book. I recommend this book.

Whew, so it took me a moment to get into this book since it is not normally my cup of tea. But after reading it for a little bit I enjoyed it. It is funny, I loved the relationship between Nikai and her neighbor (of course the name has disappeared memory.) There is so much drama in the book, which I was quite prepared for, given the cover illustration, but it was not a fairy tale ending, which I enjoyed that. I was not happy about the ending but, it gives it was something that was coming and honestly, I saw it coming.

This was a great book! I loved the drama and how the characters were easy to connect to. I felt that the relationship between the two characters was realistic and heartfelt. I recommend this book. The drama was so good, I couldn't put this book down.

I thought Nikai and Robert were fully envisioned, complex, and multi-layered characters. However, I thought their relationship was toxic and extremely unhealthy. Their relationship wasn't built on trust. The ending was the best outcome for both of them. The plot was expansive and deep. But, at times, it felt a little bloated and I skimmed some of those parts. Some tighter editing might have helped keep the plot engaging and riveting, but without losing crucial plot development. (Also, according to the Author's Note, the novel was originally written in the late 90s. I would have recommended updating some of the dated references to VHS, tapes, and caller ID boxes for the release of this new edition. For me, the old tech mentions disrupted the flow of the story.) #SomeoneToCatchMyDrift Rating: somewhere between 😐 / meh, it was ok *and* ☹ / didn't like it

This book is scheduled for publication on November 5, 2021. Thank you @privybooks for providing me this digital ARC via @NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was not a fan of this book. The writing was choppy, the storyline was hard to follow. The characters were not very well developed so it was hard to connect to them, which is one of my favorite parts of a great book.
