"Love with her will be...chaotic, yet beautiful"

This is easily my favorite 2021 historical romance!!

You know, this couple gives me major Rhett/Scarlett vibes except they're both decent and kind people. I love their banter and I love how it was them vs. the world. They're one of my favorite couples I've read this year!

Devlin is like RIGHT on the verge of pining and stalking lol. Like he does some stuff that if that were to happen to me in real life I would be concerned, but in a romance I was like "awwww that's sweet". Also he told his dog about his crush. His dog!!! The sweetest thing I ever heard.

Ophelia was fantastic. She was full of life and laughter. I loved how she balanced her family and her own wants/needs too.

Stacy Reid's writing is so good and swoonworthy - I loved every moment of it!!

I have already posted my review on Goodreads (linked below). On publication day in late December, I'll plan to leave a review on Amazon and also on my Instagram. Thank you for this ARC!

Emotional and deep love story like none other! ❤️❤️
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is book 3 in the series and as I look back on the other stories I read, I rated them all the same, five stars. For me a five star rating in a historical romance is very difficult.
But Reid’s a storyteller unlike anyone else. The characters are not typical. Her plots are definitely not typical. She pushes the boundaries with her flaming hot, intense, passionate scenes that just get into your soul.
This story is definitely my favorite. A Scoundrel of Her Own is unique and the deep, burning love story is unlike any you have read before. All consuming, intensely passionate, and a deep love unheard of in this setting.
Tears, smiles, and much happiness!
Reid has become a compulsion for me. Her storytelling ability is like none other and she simply stands out in this genre. An author not to be missed.
This was one of the better books I have read recently. I loved Devlin, he was the best character. I loved the couple and how they journeyed to the HEA. I would absolutely recommend this book to others. Stacy Reid is quickly becoming one of my favorite historical authors.
Thank you so much to the publisher for providing this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I am so glad I gave Stacy Reid another chance. I read another book by her this year that I thought was a bit problematic and I didn't like some of the conflict/tropes.
But this is an all time favorite for me. I was immediately drawn in by the sweet story of these two kids being lost in the woods together and surviving with each other, but they are different classes so the boy is just discarded after saving her. Then he works his entire life to become good enough for her *insert crying emoji*
This was just so freaking sweet and I loved every one of their interactions and secret rendezvous and there were SO many of them which I really appreciated. I love the trope of a lower class hero and I thought the conflict felt so real and agonizing and I was on an emotional rollercoaster with them. I loved how the heroine wasn't prim and proper and society didn't appeal to her but the hero doesn't want to take it away from her.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves historical romance. Brb adding every Stacy Reid book to my TBR.
Wait For Me…
Stacy Reid writes a passionate romance about love overcoming difficult circumstances, in A Scoundrel of Her Own. After a disastrous carriage accident, Ophelia is swept away down a river only to be saved by Niall. Young Ophelia and Niall are adorable, with a pure vow of friendship they promise each other they will be married. Except Ophelia is a Lady Ophelia Darby, and Niall can only expect to be a carpenter when they are old enough to marry. Many years later Niall has not forgotten his promise, but Ophelia must overcome her own family secrets to find a happy ending.
Ophelia is a well-rounded character who is both sweet and spirited. Her acceptance and kindness towards everyone is refreshing. Though she has grown up surrounded by wealth, she does not expect it to be the only correct way to live. She questions class expectations, daring to pursue her love of music and singing. Stacy Reid writes some wonderfully witty and relatable dialog for her.
While Niall has become a scoundrel in all sense of the word, he is still a family man. He desperately wants a chance to find hope and happiness again. But his struggles between integrity, obsession, and his criminal past, lead him away from this dream. Including an amicable breakup with his mistress. He struggles with class issues, noticeable frustration with the nob, and plenty of swearing.
They both have to relearn each other now as adults, in order to understand and become friends again. With plenty of steamy romance, tormented feelings, and misunderstandings. Class and prejudice may end any possible relationship they have together, or their passion will cause irreversible scandal. Stacy Reid does not disappoint with her strong characters, flowing prose, and intense romance.
This book was Stacy Reid at her best and I so enjoyed. Devlin and Ophelia have stolen a place in my heart and I was so invested in their love. The prologue was a little long for my taste, I love that historical romance gets right into the action, but that is my only complaint with the book. Reid is a go to recommendation of mine and I cannot wait for readers to get their hands on this book.
This is Stacy Reid at her best! I absolutely adored this story and the main characters, Ophelia and Devlin, are a couple that have made their way into my heart. So well written with many emotional moments and a love so true, you can't help but sigh when they finally find their HEA. This is also a story of how the high society turns up their nose at anyone below their social standings which just grieves me no end!!
Devlin is indeed quite a scoundrel but when you read of his past and what he went through to get to where he is now, you appreciate who he is. The epilogue alone is quite original and a perfect start to this story. Ophelia is from high society but she much prefers to let loose and be with friends who let her be herself. When her life is turned upside down and the boy from her past turns up as protector, her adventures have just begun!! Add in the sensual scenes and oh boy, you will find yourself fanning yourself quite often! lol
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved this romance. The main characters were very interesting and the discussion about class was spot on. I thought it was adorable how they meet and the innocence of them as children and how that affected them as adults. The reading of this book was very comfortable and I was really involved in the story, which is good, after all, who doesn't want to feel themselves lost in the story?
The whole plot was well structured and the secondary plot lines were also well developed. I liked how the author used the secondary characters and how they added to the main plot.
The only thing that really made me confused was the cover. Ophelia is described as having midnight black hair and the woman in the cover is very obviously blonde. It seems like such a small detail, but considering the story, I feel like they should have been more careful about that.
This book had me hooked from the very first page when we see a young Devlin carrying Ophelia to saftey after she ended up in a river.. They spent a good amount of time together becoming friends and promising that when they will grow up they are going to marry each other...
Fast forward 16 years and we see Ophelia who has become a beautiful woman on a mission.. looking for information that takes her to the seedier parts of the city in to taverns and opera houses..
Devlin has become rich and someone to be feared. He has thought of Ophelia often, and when he spies her wandering around he knows that he will protect her.. Even if she has no idea who he is and what he once ment to her..
OMG! I loved their romance so much.. I thought they had amazing chemistry, and even though Devlin didn't want to fall in love with Ophelia you could feel how much he did in every action that he took.. Ophelia took a little more time falling in love or at least recognizing it, but everytime they were together you could see how much she trusted him and how safe and loved he made her feel.. I also loved the banter, and just how they could be themselves completely with each other.. I was left with that satisfied feeling when it was over, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series and see who gets their HEA next!
This was a wickedly fun, hot and angsty read! I absolutely LOVED the beginning of Ophelia’s and Devlin’s story. My heart was instantly captivated and once I hit the time jump, I experienced such a riot of emotions I couldn’t stop reading.
Ophelia was a multi dimensional heroine and I adored everything about her. She was raised with a unique set of circumstances and I was anxious to learn all the ins and outs regarding it. There were definitely times that her actions hurt my heart, but I also understood the reasons behind them.
Devlin was an alpha hero to the core. From the first moment he interacted with Fifi his main objective was protection. That one incident was the foundation for everything he did from that point onward and holy heck, that’s the stuff of true romance!
This book ran me through a gamut of emotion. From laughter, danger, high angst and finally an ending that satisfied my soul. I feel like I’ve been tumbled upside down, right-side up and inside out and I’d gladly go through it all again for such a beautifully written story of love.
I was hooked on Niall & Fifi from their very first meeting as young children -- does it get any sweeter?
The banter, the courage, the willingness to be one's self despite the weight of society's expectations --- it was all SO GOOD.
I cannot wait to read the other books in this series.
Another great addition to the adventures of the young ladies of the Sinful Wallflowers club. Niall saves Fifi from drowning when they were children and sweetly vow to marry. Fifteen years later Sinful Wallflower Lady Ophelia and notorious Devlin Byrne meet and realize they are those same children. Fifi wants her own adventure and Niall wants Fifi. Their story is fun and sexy.
Stacy Reid strikes again. Honestly at this point Stacy could publish her grocery list and I would buy 10 copies of it.
A Scoundrel of Her Own helped me find a new trope I didn't know I NEEDED in my life and that is the "as kids they promise to marry each other when they grow up, one of them forgets over time and the other holds onto that promise and never forgets".
As an adoptee I felt a very strong connection to the main character Ophelia. I felt Ophelia's emotions when she was explaining to Devlin her hurt, guilt, and fright as she was uncovering all these pieces of her life she didn't know before.
Devlin had me throwing my hands up in the air. Gosh I loved him, but boy did he frustrate me with his whole "I don't love her". I am kind of shocked my eyes aren't stuck in rolling position. The chemistry between Devlin and Ophelia was incredible. there were times I caught myself physically leaning into my kindle as if I couldn't get close enough while reading.
I adore how Ms. Reid rights interwoven stand-alones. I have read My Darling Duke, but I haven't yet had the pleasure of reading Her Wicked Marquess. With that being said even though parts of Her Wicked Marquess were alluded to, I didn't feel like I missed anything necessary to stop me from enjoying A Scoundrel of Her Own to the fullest. I love that we get to see other characters we will know more about in the future and revisit characters we hav already fallen in love with as we continue to read more of Stacy's series.
Overall this was a fantastic read for me. It will definitely be something that I can't wait to place on my bookshelf when it hits stores. I honestly can't thank NetGalley or Entangled Publishing enough for providing me with an E-Arc copy in exchange for my honest review.
Stacy Reid writes with a passion that comes through in every word she puts to paper. Her characters are dynamic yet fragile, bold yet vulnerable, and sophisticated yet simple. With her every word she holds you spell-bound. A scoundrel of Her Own is a wonderful story of young love that never dies even in the midst of impossible circumstances. This book grabs you from the first page when an unknown little boy is trying desperately to hold on to a little girl he has rescued from a raging river. There is an insatiable need to find out if the little boy was able to hold on to the little girl. The book holds you from that moment and you cannot put it down until the very last page.
I would like to thank Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for an Advance Reader Copy of this book. The views expressed are solely my own.
Lady Ophelia Darby exists in two worlds. In one, she is the impudent, willful daughter of a powerful marquess and darling of the ton. In the other, she moves through the underworld’s shadows as songstress Lady Starlight, protected only by the notoriously wealthy scoundrel Devlin Byrne. But when she stumbles upon her beloved father’s darkest secrets, the line between her two worlds quickly blurs. Now she needs the help of the one man a lady should never trust.
Devlin Byrne stands on the edge of London society, knowing he will never be accepted. No one else knows that his obscene wealth and ruthlessness aren’t without purpose. Or that his purpose has golden-brown eyes that shimmer with mischief, the palest of skin, and a lush mouth that beckons to be kissed, and deeply. But having Ophelia is only the beginning of Devlin’s plans.
It’s undeniable that Devlin Byrne is a dangerous temptation—but just as Ophelia begins to trust him, maybe even fall for him, she discovers she’s not the only one with secrets. And his would lead her down more than just the path of scandal…
Devlin is the child who saved her life years ago. The gist of the story is that many years later and under a different name he came across her again and fell madly in love with her.
This is an interesting and loving story that I devoured.
Stacy Reid writes an exciting romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
A Scoundrel of Her Own is the third book in the Sinful Wallflowers series. Part of this book takes place at the same time as Her Wicked Marquess, but it can most definitely be read as a standalone.
Lady Ophelia is moonlighting as songtress Lady Starlight in the underworld. She's protected by a mysterious but powerful man named Devlin Byrne. Little does she know that Devlin is the same little boy who saved her life when she was 8 years old.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Ophelia and Devlin's story was a childhood friends to lovers romance. Class difference is the main conflict that pushes the characters to interact with each other in secret. Ophelia also has a quest to complete, which is why she masquerades as Lady Starlight.
I loved Ophelia and Devlin's first meeting so much that I was highly anticipating their reunion. As it is with the previous books in the series, the build up of chemistry, intimacy, and sexual tension is a work of art. I really enjoy Stacy Reid's brand of friends to lovers 🥰
I was thoroughly enthralled with Ophelia and Devlin and I was constantly anticipating their scenes together. There is quite a bit of angst, which makes sense because of the class difference. But there are also some very memorable comedic scenes that I will forever remember 😂 The steam level is very high, with the added bonus of dirty talk 🔥
I won't lie though: there were a few times where I felt that Devlin loved Ophelia more than she loved him. I really felt for Devlin because he was Ophelia's dark secret for the longest time. I could understand why Ophelia didn't want to disappoint her parents, but I just wanted her to give it all up for Devlin sooner rather than later.
My main complaint is that Ophelia's parents got away with their awful behaviour. It's a bit of an odd situation here: her parents dote on her, but they are also prejudiced in an almost villainy fashion. So by the time I got to the HEA, I wasn't convinced about her parents being decent people. I'm surprised they even capitulated lol.
There are some hints about who Charlotte and Fanny will end up with. I believe Fanny's story is next and it's going to be a deliciously tropestatic one 😏
P.S. I know this may annoy some readers, so I'll put it out there: the heroine actually has black hair, but she often wears a blonde wig. So...the hair colour on the cover is not entirely inaccurate.
I, unfortunately, didn’t like this. It started off really cute with them as children and their magical time together. However, 15/16 years, it was off for me. Devlin is of a lower class and has built himself up to be a very wealthy man. Ophelia is the daughter of a Marquis and has every advantage in life. When a secret is revealed, it changes her whole perspective. Devlin has never forgotten Ophelia and when he sees her again the stars align.
I really didn’t like their love story. I never felt chemistry between them and I felt it a tad weird that he fell in love with her when she was only 8. Basically built his entire life based on her. I just personally didn’t like that. Ophelia was ok but I didn’t like Devlin. There were also times I felt there were too many inner thoughts rather than actual conversations. I was rather bored at times and just wanted the book to end.
I can’t believe I only read one book by stacie Reid that I dnfed so early just because I wasn’t in the mood for it and it got a slow beginning. But this?? Omg this was so good!!! And how ironic is that only after I finished this did I realize that the book I dnfed was the first book in this series. I need to go back and read the previous two books if they are as any good as this one.
I loved these two so much! Their chemistry? The angst? The steam? I loved how Fifi was with Devlin, so carefree and wild. And I loved how he was such a sucker for her!! How he was willing to give up everything for her!!! I loved how he waited for her all those years and did everything with the thought of her on his mind. I just really loved the way he loved her!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks for NetGalley and the publisher for providing this.
