I barely finished this book. This was due partly to unexpected drug-related content and partly due to how I didn't feel the writing or Georgie’s character was enough to redeem the book. While I'm obviously the odd one out about this novel, I just couldn't get behind it, regardless of my love for everything Pride and Prejudice. In order to avoid repeating myself, I'm going to end the review here, but nonetheless, thank you to both the publisher and NetGalley for granting me access to this title.

Cute, lighthearted read. I enjoyed most of thr characters and felt it was the perfect pace for the book.

This read is a modern take on characters in Pride and Prejudice. This read a bit heavy as there is some tougher themes like drug use/dealing, relationship manipulation, abandonment etc. However, there is also some lightheartedness throughout the book too (matching band, matchmaking and lots of pancakes). So if you are looking for a read that has some emotion, romance and coming of age to it- this would be a good choice.

I originally requested Accomplished because I was interested in a Pride and Prejudice marching band retelling. And while there are marching band scenes included, the main plot of the story is about Darcy trying to fix her mistakes after being caught in the middle of a drug scandal.

I found the main character Darcy to have a very self-deprecating personality, she was constantly belittling herself and I found it hard to handle reading from this point of view.

Inspired by the classic characters of Pride & Prejudice, "Accomplished" is the YA story focusing on the life of Georgie Darcy after a scandal with a drug dealer, Wickham Foster, ruins her reputation and causes a rift between her and her brother, the always surly Fitzwilliam Darcy. In a bid to get her now overly-attentive brother off her back and on the road to happiness, Georgie concocts a plan with her classmate to set him up with a classmate she's convinced is perfect for him, Lizzie Bennet.
As a lover of all things Austen, I was absolutely chuffed to get this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Despite the original source material being written for adults, I felt the author did a good job of solidifying the younger voice of Georgie Darcy for this YA retelling. While I generally read YA books, at times this felt a little too young for my personal tastes, however I recognize that not all readers will feel that way. Georgie is a girl in high school just trying to figure out how to manage it all: her schoolwork, her bad reputation, her bandmates hating her, her last name and the privilege that comes with it. I love how real and raw I felt Georgiana was in this adaptation. At times it felt like her self-loathing was a bit over the top and her gestures were tone deaf in a couple of scenes, but in general she felt like a genuine teenage girl trying to do it all.

Act 1 of the book started very slowly and I found it difficult to get drawn in. The tension between her and her brother felt forced and abrupt to start the book with. However, once Georgie is in her own world at school things start to pick up. The tension between both her and Wickham is well written and you can feel her loathing for him mixed with the remnant of a teen-girls broken heart leap off the page. Her friendship with Avery felt really natural and while the stirring of romance between the two was predictable, I felt like the author did a good job of balancing the awkwardness that comes with being a teen with a crush. The author kept their moments on the page playful and young in the best way.

Overall, I think lovers of YA contemporary stories will find this enjoyable, whether or not they're familiar with the source material!

Oh my gosh this book! I could not love it more, It’s such a fun reimagining of a character from P&P and Georgie just broke my heart sometimes. Her desire to find a place for herself out of the shadow of her brother was so relatable to little sisters (including this one) and the ways in which she struggles with who to love and trust felt SO REAL. The excellent cast of secondary characters rounds out this book to make it a complete delight.

So cute! I’m a sucker for Jane Austen and this modern adaptation about Georgiana Darcy certainly hit the mark! So many emotions and tears.

𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 is a Pride and Prejudice retelling but from Georgiana Darcy's viewpoint. It navigates Georgie pulling herself back together after the mess of her previous school year and the story promises character improvement and room for individual progress.

I was hyped after reading the synopsis and rewatching Pride and Prejudice to start the book, however, I only found myself disappointed.

Georgie wasn't really an ideal protagonist. She chose to hurt people when she was hurt, not really a model main character, and while one may argue that we all make errors which can be forgiven, Georgie repeated her mistakes three times too many for me to consider indulgence.

And since I failed to generate even an iota of symphathy for her the romance aspect also fell flat for me. Although, Avery was a sweetheart (even Georgie agrees with me on this) and deserved someone better than her.

Now the question arises, was the retelling worth it? Does it honour the original?
Well that's not for me to answer on anyone else's behalf but you'll surely not be catching me re-reading this anytime soon.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me this ARC, which does not affect my review. This was a well-written new adult novel. I loved the operation: matchmakers when Georgie was trying to get Fitz and her brother together. The tropes in this novel include: friends to lovers, slow burn, and guy falls first. Avery was so cute. The book was hilarious and emotional, going through various real-life issues, including family problems and the distinction between working hard vs family money. I loved this quote from Fitz: <spoiler> "but you can try and spread that privilege around...be generous, and be conscious that other people don't have the same set of circumstances as you. make space at the same table for those with out your privilege. Give them space, sometimes. learn without making people teach you." </spoiler>.

Delightful and makes me want to re-read Pride and Prejudice (it's been way too long). Fun YA, and while having some P&P knowledge helps you with some of the smaller references, it's not a requirement to enjoy this book. Fingers crossed for some follow ups.

This book is a Pride and Prejudice retelling from the POV of Georgina (or Georgie) Darcy and I throughly enjoyed every second of it. Setting the story at an elite boarding school was a brilliant idea and I love a school story almost as much as I love a P&P retelling.

Band geeks, this is a total love letter to your kind. Being an honorary band nerd only (I may have also once been referred to as the band room “pet”) some of if flew over my head but not enough to push me out of the story.

Georgie was a likeable character who didn’t always make the smartest of choices but as mentioned in my previous reviews- I like these kinds of characters. This is a story about Georgie standing on her own two feet and it was pure fun to tag along for the ride.

The other characters deserve recognition too- especially Wickam and Fitz. The brother and sister relationship was refreshing (I feel like sisters are more common in the genre?) and the feelings Georgie experienced over Wickham were more than a single layer.

Is it the best P&P retelling out there? No. Would I still recommend it? Absolutely and I look forward to adding a hard copy to my shelves soon.

I enjoyed this P&P inspired YA fantasy. Instead of focusing on Lizzy and Darcy, this modern day retelling follows Georgie Darcy as she attends boarding school and try to get her overbearing brother off her back.

I liked that this book focused on Georgie. It brought a new dynamic to the story that I enjoyed. Many other reviewers have pointed out that Darcy could be a bit whinny at times, which is true, but she’s also a sixteen-year-old girl who’s going through a rough time. A bit of whiny-ness seems accurate to me.

Overall, I would recommend!

I was looking forward to what I thought was going to be a light, fluffy read. While that is not what this book is, I enjoyed it all the same. I was thrilled to see Georgie getting her own story and I loved the idea of Charlie as a carefree frat boy. Overall a nice story that I will definitely recommend.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, I loved this book. I love Pride and Prejudice retellings - especially one with a twist.

Accomplished is the story of Georgiana Darcy - yep, you heard it right. She is the black sheep in her family. She is burdened by insecurities but is vigorously trying to get her reputation back after a scandal regarding Wickham. To get her brother off her back, Georgiana tries to hitch Darcy to the lovely Lizzie Bennett .

Georgiana was such a great book heroine, I adored her from page one. Accomplished is certainly not like other retellings of Pride and Prejudice, but I loved the author's idea for a secondary to actually be our dearly narrator. I highly recommend it!

As a huge Jane Austen fan I was sucked in by this premise- a modernized P&P retelling from the perspective of Georgiana Darcy! I think I was hoping for a fun, fluffy take on this that still felt fairly Austenesque. I feel a little bad DNFing this because it's a debut novel and I absolutely think there is an audience for it, it's just really not for me. While I appreciated the nods to the original and thought some of the choices for modernization were clever (like making Wickham a drug dealer who takes advantage of Georgie's naivete), in general this feels like your typical YA contemporary. Which isn't a bad thing for people who like that, I'm just not one of them.

Georgie is the kind of character I find less than enjoyable to read because she has loads of self-doubt and shame for being the black sheep of the family, failing in school, and not feeling good enough for her family name. She's lonely, bullied, and very unhappy. Darcy isn't helping in his quest to be a stand-in Dad. Now, do I think that's going to be relatable for a lot of teenagers? Definitely. This has all the teen angst that I recall experiencing years ago. Do I typically pick up this kind of YA book as someone very far removed from that part of life without interest in revisiting it? No, I really don't. Unless there's something else hooking me like maybe themes I care a lot about or queer characters, it just isn't my cup of tea anymore. The Jane Austen association caught my attention here, but this is less retelling and more loosely inspired by. I think readers who typically enjoy YA contemporary coming of age stories will find a lot to like here, but I don't want to drag down the rating by continuing with something that just isn't fun for me. I actually thought this book was so good! It was something so different and I loved the characters quirks and persoalities. I loved the premise and plot that the writer envisioned and will definitely be reading more from this author!

I was very excited to read a Pride & Prejudice retelling from the perspective of Georgiana Darcy.
Unfortunately the best parts of the book were the little snippets we saw of Fitz and Lizzie’s relationship.
I also had a lot of trouble reading from Georgie’s perspective. Her decisions always felt brash and the clear wrong choice. Her constant inner monologue that everyone hated her to her inability to recognize her privilege till other people point it out. She just felt very selfish overall and it was hard to want to see her succeed.
This is definitely a younger YA novel and I would recommend it to younger teens looking to get into classics through retellings. I think it could a really fun introduction into a great classic story.

Accomplished is one of the most inventive Pride & Prejudice reimagining I've ever read, and I pride (ha) myself on being a collector of them.

I loved this book for its boarding school setting, meddling, and the way it put Georgie front and center within the Pride & Prejudice narrative, making her a complex character who can be a little hard to root for at times.

If you love Pride & Prejudice but find yourself wishing for justice for Georgiana and Lydia because not even Regency social customs can make up for how much Wickham sucks, then you just might enjoy this book.

If you’re a fan of pride and prejudice you may want to pick up this new YA novel to quench your appetite for something unique. We don’t get much on page time for minor characters in the original so a glimpse into Georgiana Darcy’s life is a welcome delight - especially in a modern boarding school setting. This was an interesting twist as we so often see retellings that too closely resemble the original. I appreciated the Easter eggs but nothing felt too on the nose. This book felt a little bit on the younger side of YA even though it’s marketed for upper high school but that may have just been how the inner dialogue and Georgie’s responses on page played out. Wickham fell a little flat for me and I didn’t feel as much urgency or resolve in what happened as not much time was given to him. I loved the sibling dynamics!! Fitz and Georgie were sweetly written together and definetly felt true to siblings in real life. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to younger high schoolers I know who like classic but are itching for a setting more relevant to them today. I look forward to reading more books by Amanda in the future.
