This is the first book I read by this duo. I loved the alternating point of view, and how they often took a step back when alternating, to recount each character’s perspective leading up to the events. The book was tense and full of twists, and as a DcC and Maryland native it was fun to know exactly some of the locations mentioned in the book! I have this book a 4 star rating on Goodreads!

I really loved the premise of this book. I had read The Wife Between Us from this author duo before and thought it was just ok, so I was interested to see what this new book was like. For me, this one was definitely more thrilling than The Wife Between Us. I really enjoyed the dual perspective and getting to learn about the couples marriage alone with their therapist. I also enjoyed the little side story that was doing on with Avery and her paranoia because of that. All of the different side characters being introduced made it difficult to know who to trust, so you were feeling on edge the entire time.

I did really enjoy the twists towards the end, but for me it was a little bit of a slow start. However, if you're really into a domestic thriller where the suspense really just centers on a crumbling relationship, I think you'll love it. I personally just need a little more action to keep me hooked. However, I think I enjoyed the story a lot more via audiobook. Having two narrators made it really easy to keep track of who's perspective we were listening to. The voice actors also did a really great job portraying the suspense or panic that the characters would have been feeling. I think I felt that a lot more in the audiobook than I would have reading this book physically.

Overall I still enjoyed my time listening to this book and I think lovers of domestic thrillers (and this author duo's other books) will have a great time with it.

The Golden Couple is the third novel I’ve read by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, and it’s the best so far. This book becomes available to the public, in print and in audio, March 8, 2022. Those that enjoy a solid psychological thriller should order it right now.

We have three major characters. The first is Avery, the therapist, and she is the only one to use the first person, so if we have to choose one character as protagonist, she’s the one. The other two are Marissa and Matthew, two halves of the married couple she is counseling. The narrative shifts between them, with the lion’s share going to Avery and Marissa, and less to Matthew.

Before we go farther, I will tell you that when I learn that Avery is a therapist, my initial reaction is the eye roll. Seriously? Another therapist, as in An Anonymous Girl? Can we have a little variety here, maybe. And suspicious type that I am, I think I smell a good writing team becoming hacks, too comfortable with a formula. But oh no no no, that’s not at all what is happening here! This is nowhere near the same story.

The premise is that Marissa wants to come in with Matthew for counseling. She has cheated on him—just once—and she wants to tell him, but she is afraid of his reaction. She treasures her marriage, and the little family they have created with their son, eight year old Bennett. She doesn’t want him to leave her, and he has a bit of a temper. She’s come to ask a pro for help, and has heard fine things about Avery’s work. Avery has a ten-step method that she swears will help every couple, whether it’s to find a way to stay together, or the best way to uncouple. She believes the marriage can be saved.

Now, Avery, our therapist, is an odd duck. She’s lost her license to practice as a psychologist because of some unconventional methods, and we learn this right at the outset, so we’re already on the back foot, watching to see if she does something hinky. She seems like she may be a bit sketchy, and the couple seem almost too good to be true, both ready to do whatever it takes to salvage their relationship and move forward. And yet, clearly, not all is as it seems.

I can’t tell you more than that. You don’t want a lot of information going in. Because this is a work of suspense, you can’t guess who the baddy is by keeping track of the facts as they are revealed; just sit back, and enjoy the ride.

I also received the audio version, and I alternated my reading between it and the review copy on my Kindle. Voice actors Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland do a fine job; it’s really a toss up as to which version is better, so go with the medium you most enjoy.

Highly recommended to those that like the genre.

I have enjoyed books by these authors before but haven't listened to one of theirs. I was blown away!!

I loved the back and forth style of writing in the story told from different perspectives. I was instantly sucked into the characters and felt invested in what they were doing. The narrators did a great job and always kept my interest.
I couldn't stop listening, and loved the surprise ending. I don't want to say too much, but if you're thinking about reading this one, do it!

I really liked the narrators of this book! This was a slow burn but the ending was full of twists and surprises! I kept trying to put the puzzle together through the whole book , I finally put a big part of the puzzle together when I was about 70% through the book, so I wasn’t a obvious twist but it was written very well . I couldn’t stop listening to the audio , I had to know everything! I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely recommend. Great plot great twists , great characters .

All Avery needs is 10 sessions, 10 sessions in order to help you overcome the biggest obstacles in your life, from domineering parents, to overbearing partner to assault, Avery will take you on as a client. When Marissa first contact Avery, it is out of the need to confess to her husband that she has been unfaithful to him and she wants him to forgive her and make their family work for the sake of their 8-year old son. But the more Avery digs into the Bishops lives she cannot help but notice that there are other things going, other secrets that need to be revealed and it is simply not just the marriage that is in danger.

This is the third book that I have read by Hendericks and Pekkanen and I think this is my favourite so far. The Golden Couple is a fantastic book that may start a bit slow, but trust me keep reading and all the twists, turns and shocking moments will come. Just when you think you have the plot figured out or have the person figured out a new twist will emerge and completely shatter what you thought before.

Avery seems like half therapist half private eye as she not only performs stakeout on her clients, but also digs into their past and present, to try and really determine who her clients really are as people as well as why they have really sought her out. I liked this mix as it meant that Avery was not limited to the therapy session with trying to help her clients. It also gives the reader a better understanding of who Avery is and there are even tidbits about how she has helped other clients. I like that Avery is a rebel in her profession and while she may not be 100% honest on far into her clients lives she digs she does it to help them.

I personally did not care for Marissa's POV. I felt that it was just a bit of a filler for the book and had me just wanting to get back to Avery's POV. Marissa's POV did provide some additional details a little bit before Avery found them out, but overall I did not find Marissa's POV that important to the over all plot of the story, even though she was one of The Golden Couple.

I think it is a testament to this book that I would like to read more about Avery and the clients that she helps in her own unconventional way. I think that Hendrick and Pekkanen could easily have a series around her based upon what they have achieved in this book.

If you are looking for a domestic suspense, mystery book (and don't mind a bit of a slow burn) that is very much character driven then this one is for you. I am really looking forward to seeing what Hendrick and Pekkanen come out with next.

This thriller was just okay. I thought the main characters were somewhat negative and there were a lot of things that seemed unrealistic to life. I think the plot could have followed a lot better without some of the predictable thriller plot lines.

I was very excited to be able to listen to the audiobooks of The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. The narration was excellent and the story came to life.
Marissa and Matthew Bishop have it all but do they really? Marissa is holding on to a secret, she cheated on her husband and she knows she needs to tell him but is afraid when he finds out the truth it’ll kill him. She loves him and wants to fix things, especially for the sake of their 8 year old son, shes in desperate need to make her family whole again.
Marissa makes an appointment with Avery Chambers , she had recently gone rouge in the psychoanalytic world after losing her license due to the controversial ways she runs her patients. Avery isn’t like any other therapist, she has a 10 session process and inserts herself into her clients lives being able to piece together people and places like a Private Investigator. She’s a kind hearted woman with some secrets of her own but that doesn’t stop her from helping her patients until the end.
This psychological thriller is the most anticipated of 2022 and I can see why. Twists and turns at every angle, this is definitely an edge of your seat page turner late into the night.

Avery Chambers is a rogue therapist who has a 10 sessions to success plan. When Marissa and Mathew Bishop come in and Marissa immediately confesses to an affair, the stage is set. Avery takes them on as clients, and despite Mathew's initial reluctance, the Bishops seem intent on repairing their relationship. But there is something just not right about it all...

This is a domestic suspense that had me sucked in immediately. I felt like there were so many shady characters and I did not know who to trust. Avery's and Marissa's POV were both really suspicious and revealed just enough at the right moments. What really sealed it for me was the end. I left this story feeling like cheering a little.

The narration was phenomenal. Both voices carried the spectrum of emotions from confidence to fear and confusion with ease. It was a great audio choice, and I am so glad I was granted access to it by Macmillan Audio and the Authors via NetGalley.

This book is told in three parts. The story is told by the therapist named Avery and the wife of the couple that Avery is trying to help named Marissa. The story is about a therapist who has lost her license due to her to her unusual way of helping her clients. The book follows a couple the therapist is helping and you are introduced to the 10 session plan. At many points you think you know who and what the issues are for the couple, that is until you make it to the third part when you realize that everything you think you know….you don’t. This was a very enjoyable, suspenseful read, and if you listen to the audio version you are really in for a treat. Two fantastic narrators who really give the characters real life.

I love myself a thriller, and this book was no exception. I literally binged this audiobook today on my way to and from classes because I've been itching to read it, and let me tell you... I was NOT disappointed. This novel follows Marisa and Matthew Bishop, the couple that seems perfect but suffers from a vast relationship betrayal. They get the help of an ex-therapist named Avery, who has many secrets of her own. Get ready for some twists and turns and, of course, some gasping! This book keeps you guessing until the very end!

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is a fantastic listen! I absolutely loved this book. The authors were incredible at writing unexpected twists. I am so thankful to #NetGalley and #MacMillan Audio for letting me listen to this book. I will definitely be purchasing my own copy of it. Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland both were excellent bringing the characters to life. They added so much to my enjoyment.

I will read anything @greerhendricks & @sarahpekkanen write, and their newest book was no exception. In fact, I think it’s my favorite one yet! This audiobook took me on a ride, and I had no idea where I would end up. I highly recommend this to fans of psychological thrillers mixed with major drama.

This book was so boring! Avery Chambers works with you for 10 weeks and I got to know every single thing the characters do every day. I kept waiting for something to happen but by the time something does, I am so numb that I don’t even care. The twist wasn’t even all that shocking.

Thought this one was pretty decent- thank you for the ARC. I liked the narrator- would like like an Avery series- Like more of her and her other patients. Not a huge twist of ending but engaging all the way through and alternating narration was appreciated.

So, we all know one of those "Golden Couples", the ones that look like they have it all figured out but when you pull back the shiny curtain, they are normal and flawed, just like everyone else! Pekkanen and Hendricks take us there...enter Marissa and Matthew. We also meet Avery, a therapist who definitely isn't' following the rules, but desperate times call for desperate measures! ⁣

Not only are Avery's techniques on the "unconventional side" but she is also quite the detective! This story is unpredictable, clever and full of all kinds of juicy secrets. This one publishes on March 8th, and I highly recommend adding it to your late winter reading list!! 4.5/5 stars.

Hendricks and Pekannen have done it again, proving again why they are an autobuy for me. The Golden Couple is my favourite book by them so far. I was constantly doubting each of the characters, and their motivations, and if things were all that they seemed. I guessed the ending but I was never 100% sure and had other potential theories. I loved Avery and her controversial 10 session program. I both read and listened to this and enjoyed both equally. Highly recommend to those who enjoy thrillers.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one! Can’t lie, I didn’t LOVE these previous reads by them & found their storylines confusing at times. However, this story kept me hooked from the start & I enjoyed the twists and unraveling of secrets along the way.

👍🏼: loved the dual POVs between the therapist & wife of a couple having some issues lol. Literally everyone was a suspect & I definitely didn’t see the twist coming at all which is a major plus for me. I also enjoyed how everything was tied up at the end & made sense for me 😂

I found this book to be very disappointing. It was a slow burn that never paid off in the end. There were so many unnecessary plot points, characters, and details meant to be red herrings. However, they just felt more like filler than actual distractions. The 2 stories told in tandem ultimately came together in the end but I just felt myself pushing through to the end but never actually enjoying this book.

This book was so good!! I really enjoyed the dual POV.
If you want a book that will keep you guessing on what will happen next, it's this book!
The narration was enjoyable and I'm super picky when it comes to audiobook narrators.
