This is a prequel for the most part but does have some parts of the now. Recently the past of Dave Kane was released and now Jenna Alton has had her story.

This book was truly breathtaking with a lot of nuances of Jenna and her past. It went along way to make Jenna feel more human to me. I have at times found her to be over rigid and very direct. Not that it's a bad thing but now you see the softer side of Jenna who is caring.

I was impressed with the writing in this book as it shows a huge shift for what I was expecting. Knowing Jenna was DEA I always kind of figured her as very harsh and no nonsense. She always seemed to have very harsh moments but this showed me the caring loving lady who has attracted one of my favourite characters Dave Kane.

It was great to see a backstory I was expecting more with her DEA life but I really enjoyed seeing her time when she first came to Black Rock Falls.

The kid angle that was in the start of the book had me cringing at times but I got a big amount of pleasure seeing those evil cartel people get what was coming to them.

Jenna with this book has pushed up her ranking in my favourite characters. She has such talent and such drive and this book showed her grace as well as a human being. I honestly want so many more of these stories but would love to really see her more in the DEA Role.

What a spectacular addition to this wonderful story as well as a wonderful way to really introduce yourself to what this lady was like and who she was before a Sherriff.

After reading Kane's backstory earlier this year I was so ready for Jenna's

A short story that tells the reader how Jenna ended up in Black Rock Falls after working undercover. It also covers her first case in town and how she gets to know the locals. I love this series and it was great to learn more about Jenna. A must read for lovers of this fantastic series.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read.

My heart was pounding, my nerves were shredded but OMG was it worth it as this story was spectacular and unputdownable. And really highlights what an incredible series and kick-ass character Jenna Alton is.

And for me, it's a must read, as not only do you learn about the harrowing details of Jenna's time undercover, but the aftermath, how she ends up in Black Rock Falls and her first investigation as acting sheriff.

Would definitely recommend.

Hands down my favourite book of this amazing, incredible series. One thing I will say. Read the books in order of publication. This is Jenna’s backstory but you don’t want to read it first. In this book we learn how and why Jenna came to Black Rock Falls. I stayed up past my bedtime to finish it because I could not put it down. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
