Dear Imposter,
After so much bookstagram hype, I absolutely had to read you. And I am happy I did! While I was able to predict the ultimate twist, your writing was on point, and I loved all of the medical details. I loved how Lillian was aware of her anxiety, and reading through Rosie's therapy journal. All of the medical jargon was detailed, but felt very approachable to me. You kept me guessing the whole way through and interested in Rosie's recovery and who was stalking the women.

Lilian and Rosie haven’t spoken for two years after there was a break in their relationship. Encouraged by her husband, Caleb, Lilian is meeting Rosie for dinner. While Lilian isn’t extremely hopeful, she’s reluctantly taking the first steps to a reconciliation. Rosie is in a good place in her life, or so she leads Lilian to believe on the way to the out of way restaurant. On their drive, Rosie tells Lilian that there’s something she needs to talk about, a matter of life and death, but before she can tell her the two are in a catastrophic accident, leaving Rosie with a traumatic brain injury. Lilian is a pediatrician on maternity leave, a leave that is lasting longer than planned after she was the subject of a malpractice lawsuit. She’s ready to go back, but she’s questioning everything in her life, paranoid and disillusioned, Lilian is not her old take charge self. Lilian is not only Rosie’s sister, but pretty much raised her for the first twelve years of her life. The bond is deep and after the accident, Lilian yearns for that close bond once again. With the help of Rosie’s fiancé, Daniel, Rosie is allowed to leave the hospital, but will need extensive care. Not only does she have a traumatic brain injury, but she’s developed Capgras Syndrome, a condition where she thinks those closest to her are imposters. This makes the caregiving more difficult, but Daniel is willing to take on the challenge. Throughout there is an air of mystery … who caused the hit and run accident? Who has been stalking both Rosie and Lilian? Are the cases related? Godfrey takes us on an unsettling journey that’s fast paced even as the mystery is revealed slowly. With a smartly placed twist, the pages are flying by as the end nears. A fantastic debut by an author that I can’t wait to see more of!! I love medical Thrillers, but overall this one was pretty gripping. I thought it was written a bit clinical for my liking, and the twist was kind of predictable. For a debut book so I thought the author did a good job, and I would most likely read more by them in the future.

Twists, turns, and solid writing are in store for you when you check out Bradeigh Godfrey's debut novel. This was well researched and introduces us to a syndrome called Capgras Syndrome. I knew nothing about it prior to this book, but it was perfect here. You're going to question everything and everyone, even the doorman (😂) and that's how I like my thrillers. Make me doubt my own sanity, then BAM hit me with a twist!⁠

Bradeigh Godfrey, is a literary genius.

Imposter, was narrated with perfection. The way Godfrey was able to instantly draw me right in from page one is still blowing my mind. The psychological suspense ran goosebumps up my arms. I found myself having to stop for a moment just to regroup and catch my breath.

Imposter, has book of the year written all over it. There are not many authors that have the natural talent to story tell the way that Godfrey does.

Lately I have been introduced to quite a few debut authors and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. I can be a book snob and prioritize my "favored" authors before reading "new authors" and I think I have just proven myself wrong. I need to step outside the box and try new things! I have to say, reading Imposter, was one of the best decisions I have made thus far!

Imposter is a twisted ride that once you get one you will be gut punched with some explosive twists and unexpected surprises. Your attention will never lose focus and the story line will keep you captivated and in suspense for what will happen next.

Imposter is one of those books that after you conclude you pray that they pick it up for Hulu, Netflix, or a major motion picture. I would love to see this book play out on the big screen and I am so excited for what Bradeigh Godfrey will come out with next!

💭 This was a solid debut thriller from the author, Bradeigh Godfrey (she co-authored The Beach Trap this summer). It definitely has popcorn thriller vibes and I was here for it. 👏🏼 Two estranged sisters reconnect and end up in a car accident where one is totally fine and the other has experienced a traumatic brain injury—no I’m really knows what happened and its hard to trust anybody. It was neat how this story brought in the author’s medical knowledge to help explain the traumatic brain injury of Rosie and her inability to communicate. The science is there, but it definitely doesn’t bog down the story. This is a binge-able thriller/suspense where you definitely have a hard time trusting the characters throughout. I did end up guessing the twist, but that didn’t bother me. I appreciated the way post partum anxiety was included in the plot and the pace at which the story played out. I definitely recommend this one and will read more by Bradeigh in the future.

Let me begin by saying that I am certainly in the minority with my review of Imposter. That seems to be the trend for me and thrillers this year — I expect it to be one thing and get something completely different. Maybe I have too high of an expectation?

Unfortunately, Imposter was not for me. I found the story to be predictable from start to finish. I even predicted the big reveal towards the end of the book. I didn't love any of the characters and found them one-dimensional and a tiny bit boring. The chapters lacked the magnetism I am constantly searching for in this genre. Several repetitive pieces throughout the book weren't essential and truthfully irritated me by the time I got to the end.

The scene involving Lillian and the baby monitor was the only part of this book that made me nervous. But everything else just felt moderately bland.

The main character is supposed to be this well-educated and remarkable woman, but I wasn't left with any feelings of awe. She seemed to me to be a bit naive and unlikeable. Creating a weaker-willed woman is the constant go-to for many authors in this genre, and I desperately need something different.

Again, I know I am an outlier regarding my feelings on this book. So, please take my review with a grain of salt and read one of the many 4-5 star reviews of Imposter. I may not have enjoyed reading this one, but it won't stop me from picking up Godfrey's next book!

Lilian is going to dinner with her sister Rosie. They’ve been estranged for years but Rosie reached out and said it was important so Lilian agreed. On the way to the restaurant, Rosie says she needs to talk to her about something that is life or death important, but it’s not a conversation for the car. Rosie also keeps looking behind them like she’s scared. Before they can make it to dinner, their car is hit and they go off the road. When Rosie wakes up in the hospital she’s not able to recognize Lilian or tell what she was going to share.

This premise definitely drew me in but it took me a little while to get fully captured by this story but once I was in, I was all in! I really ended up enjoying this one a lot and would recommend if you’re looking for a compelling read. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

Sisters Lillian and Rosie are at the center of this suspense novel. Lillian and her husband are doctors, and Lillian is on leave with her newborn and experiences the complicated feelings of new motherhood, as well as a haunting memory of a past incident as a pediatrician. Rosie, the younger sister Lillian practically raised, has been estranged from Lillian since their parents’ death. Set in the Chicago area, the sisters are reunited and driving down Lakeshore Drive on a snowy night as the plot is set in motion.

Lillian experiences imposter syndrome, even though she graduated at the top of her class from medical school. Rosie has a history of abusive partners. One particularly emotionally and verbally abusive relationship is explored in depth in this novel and may be a trigger for some readers.

If you enjoy stories with a medical setting and journal entries that have elements of domestic suspense, mystery, and psychological thriller, this one's for you. The author’s knowledge as a physician is evident in the story, and I really appreciated the medical aspects of the novel.

I am so impressed that @bradeighgodfrey wrote this thriller in addition to co-writing the romance The Beach Trap. Imposter is layered with a complex sister relationship, partner abuse, new motherhood, and so much more. I truly enjoyed reading this unique novel and was eager to get back to it each night.

Imposter by Bradeigh Godfrey. An Intense and emotional story of two sisters, Lilian and Rose is a psychological/medical thriller. With an innovative plot and unexpected and shocking twists, this is a gripping and fast paced read with an ending that is completely unexpected. An edge of your seat, can't (don't want) to put it down story.

This book really surprised me. I was unable to guess the ending, which is always a pleasant treat. I couldn't put it down - I had to find out what was truly going on. I loved the little bits left along the way, the twists woven into the story. An awesome debut novel!

Finally, a thriller that I love! A page turner that kept me guessing, senses heightened and at times I was downright nervous. This was everything a thriller should be, plus as a Chicago girl I loved that it was set in Chicago!

For a debut thriller, this book was very well-done. Godfrey’s writing is crisp and engaging. She also has a good handle on development different voices for her characters. I was especially impressed by her ability to write about traumatic brain injuries in an assessable way that gave enough detail, but was not overdone and boring. She also handled domestic violence and postpartum depression well. 3.5 stars

This brilliant thriller is Bradeigh Godfrey’s debut novel and it will keep you turning the pages!

Estranged sisters Lilian and Rosie are traveling on an icy night when Rosie reveals that she needs to discuss something she refers to as a matter of “life and death.” Suddenly a silver sedan crashes into them and though Lilian is unharmed, Rosie suffers a traumatic brain injury.

When Rosie regains consciousness, she doesn’t recognize her fiancé or Lilian. Lilian realizes she must discover what Rosie needed to tell her but she doesn’t know who she can trust.

I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written psychological thriller, with its excellent portrayal of someone with a traumatic brain injury and the medical staff who work around her. Though the story unravels through Lilian’s viewpoint, we learn Rosie’s perspective of her past from her journals and artwork. The twist at the end is stunning!

I was originally put off by a tale of two sisters, I really don’t like good sister bad sister books, but I was pleasantly surprised this was not that.

Told from the perspectives of Lillian and her sister Rosie this is the tale of unraveling lives and the secrets told. After not seeing each other for two year the sisters get in a car accident and Rosie is hurt badly. Lillian is distraught because right before the accident Rosie told her she had something to tell her that was a matter of life and death. However, when Rosie wakes up she is convinced Lillian is not who she says she is. As we dig deeper and unravel the lives of the sisters many secrets are revealed, some that have been buried a long time.

I enjoyed this book and despite being 400 pages this was a quick read and I finished in a day. I really enjoyed unraveling this twisted ball of lies. This book was well done and intricately done. I am so impressed with Bradeigh's debut novel: IMPOSTER! I've been following Bradeigh on bookstagram for a couple years now so naturally I wanted to read her new book. I loved the book! It's a medical psychological thriller and I loved that Bradeigh leveraged her experience as a doctor to write the book. I appreciate that she did research to fill in the gaps and wrote the book in a way that wasn't bogged down by medical terms. The book was well-written and thought the storyline was clever. I feel like I've read similar type books in the past but I did love this one. It was thrilling and fast-paced; a total popcorn thriller. You can easily read the book in one sitting. I did predict a couple of the twists but still a brilliant debut nonetheless! I can't wait to see what else Bradeigh comes out with!

One of the best thrillers I've ever read. I was completely in awe of the way this was plotted - so complex, yet compelling so that you had to keep reading because you NEED to know what's going to happen next. And I did not see that twist coming. It was brilliant. I also learned so much about Capgras Syndrome. I will be re-reading this one many times.

Synopsis: Lilian hasn’t seen her sister Rosie in 3 years, when out of nowhere Rosie invites Lilian to dinner. While driving on the icy roads Rosie tells Lilian she has something important to tell her, but before she has the chance to say it a car crashes into them leaving them both hospitalized. Rosie is left with a traumatic brain injury requiring immense medical rehabilitation, and Lilian is desperate to find answers.

My thoughts: This book had twists and turns galore leaving me questioning what really happened in Rosie’s past until the very end unraveled. I had some suspicions of some twists, but I was constantly on guard suspecting each person as responsible.

I loved the writing, it was action packed from the very beginning. I really enjoyed how the author pulled in some of her own real knowledge and experience into this story. The ways she told the medical side of things was done in a way that as a non medical professional I could totally understand what was being said, while not completely “dumbing it down.”

Three years later, Rosie reaches out to Lilian for an unexpected reunion. Driving on an icy storm, Rosie shares that there is a secret, which she alarmingly calls a matter of life and death. But, before, she can reveal, the two sisters meet with a car crash, which transforms their life.

For suspense and thriller readers, this novel is action-packed, unpredictable, and immersive novel. So far, I have been unable to put this novel down. I appreciate Godfrey’s writing style and given her profession as a doctor gives us as readers an insight into the anxieties and difficulties people often face in the profession. For example, throughout the novel, Lilian is not a perfect wife and doctor. Her life is constantly filled with guilt and self-doubt, but she always tries to do the right thing. I am looking forward to finish this one soon. But, I absolutely love the novel and will check out more novels by this author in the future.
