Having been on a literary diet of cop procedurals for a while now, I didn't think twice before nabbing this gem from the Mackenzie Price series.

When Det. Mackenzie Price aka Mad Mack discovers a dead body in the trunk of her car with a personalized message for her, little does she realize that it is just the beginning of a series of crimes, targeting women who have had a beef with Mack. As the Lakemore PD race to solve the murders, they soon uncover an organised crime ring that is somehow connected to the deaths of the women. Mack must hurry to catch the obsessed killer before they hit too close to home.

This was a quick-paced crime investigation that was mired in drama and intrigue. The drama level was slightly more than what is usually found in procedurals, but it was balanced out with the many twists and turns in the plot. Since I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, Mack's history and the dynamics between the various characters were lost on me; though, with just the barebones flashback mentioned in this book, I am certainly curious enough to give the prequels a try.

Det. Mackenzie Price comes with a lot of baggage and demons. The author deals with a horrific crime in this narrative; but to get to it, she has chosen a long-winded route, suspenseful though it may be. I did find certain portions unconvincing - case in point- Mack's letter to Nick that she wrote while in the basement (in a life or death situation) - she definitely wouldn't have had the time, nor would she have been in a state of mind to write such a long letter, that too, one that is so full of platitudes.

Overall, an adrenaline-fuelled ride. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Standalone but part of a series featuring Detective MacKenzie Price. A really good story with great characters and plenty of twists and turns.

Fantastic suspense.

I found it hard to stop reading it in between to do my daily tasks (because reading doesn't pay my bills yet).

Detective Mackenzie Price carries the trauma of assisting her mom bury her dad's body after she kills him in self-defense. Decades later, she finds strange murders in her city and she being the only thing common among all the dead. While investigating this case, she happens to rescue a severely injured woman, apparently assaulted. Who's doing all this and why? Who assaulted that woman? I did have a guess in my mind and went awfully wrong.

As someone who has read scores of books in this genre, I can probably say the author is perfect at it. She writes crime with ease. The language, pace and narration are all suitable to the suspense she intends to create. The English is quite simple and works for beginners. The book may be long but take my word that it is worth the time. It felt like reading one of those classic or seasoned crime writers. This is my first book in the series and I had absolutely no gaps in understanding. Hence I am taking a guess that you can pick it even if you haven't read her earlier books.

Must read for all crime fanatics like me.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for sending me an ARC on my request. I am posting my review voluntarily. Will review on Amazon on the release date.

Detective Mackenzie Price is known as Mad Mack by her precinct because she’s a tough and honest cop. When she finds a dead woman in the trunk of her car, the search is on to find the killer. We learn the woman is the missing fiancé of Austin, a fellow officer. Mackenzie had been helping with the unofficial case into her disappearance. Soon, another missing woman is found dead with ties to Mackenzie. When more people disappear, the case gets even more complicated. Secrets are revealed with huge ramifications for certain characters. Who is the killer and why is Mackenzie being targeted?

This is my first book by this author and I could not put it down. Although this is book 5 in the series, I didn’t feel lost starting here. The plot was crazy. I would definitely recommend this book. I can’t wait to go back and read the others in the series.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This one might just be my favorite one so far out of the five books , it was so much more creepy , and the twist and turns that came out of no where kept me guessing , and the feeling of been watched from the shadows was more intense in this one as well . Plus it had a supernatural vibe to it that the others didn't have which helped set the setting and the mood of the story .

In each novel, it's very compelling to read how Ruhi Choudhary takes her heronie, Mackenzie Price from "Mad Mack" into a deeper, feeling detective. This book is very special! Mackenzie and her partner, Nick Blackwood are initially called to a murder when their colleague's missing fiancé is found. But, there's more two it... she has a note for Mackenzie. Then... others who have hurt Mack in the past are missing... and, someone may be sneaking into Nick's house, as well. Incredibly written, and with so much action... I was turning pages well after my bedtime. An excellent addition to this series... Thank you to Bookouture for the ARC of this fantastic novel!

I love the cover of The Lost Bones (Detective Mackenzie Price Book 5) by Ruhi Choudhary

The story had some really great twists and kept me on my toes about who was and was not guilty and what would happen next. It was a completely gripping read. I really liked the author's writing style, her depth into the characters, and not giving too much extraneous information that can take you out of the story.

I would recommend this series and this author.

Detective Mackenzie Price is back with another adventure!!

Detective Mackenzie Price gets a shock when a body of a woman was found left at the back of Mackenzie's car. The body belongs to Sophie who was the fiance of Austin, a colleague of Mackenzie and who went missing almost two years ago. The body was addressed to Mackenzie. Then another woman goes missing and Mackenzie must find who is responsible behind the disappearances.

It was a fast twisty thriller--I was literally hooked into the story from the first chapter till the end. The author has added some supernatural vibe into the story that I almost got goosebumps as I was reading that part. Detective Mackenzie Price seemed to be the target and the book was fast paced, keeping the reader at the edge of the story. Overall, I felt like I was going on a roller coaster ride as I read this one and I actually enjoyed reading the book. Can't wait for the book 6 to come soon!

Overall, this is a twisted fast paced thriller and unputdownable that will keep you at the edge of the seat--worth five stars!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

Thanks to Ruhi and NetGalley for allowing me to read The Lost Bones before the publication date.

In this, the 5th book in the Detective MacKenzie Price series, Mack is shocked to find that a body has been pushed into the boot of her car.
The body is that of Sophie Fields, the missing fiancée of her colleague, Detective Austin Kennedy. There is also a note addressed to Mack.
When a second body is found, the unusual trace evidence which is found at both scenes makes it obvious r that there is a connection between the victims and Mack, but what that connection is, remains a mystery.

As the body count continues to rise, investigations are hampered by bureaucracy.
Or is it more than that? This is a town where power and money rule. Nothing is as it seems.

As you would expect from Ruhi, there are loads of twists and turns , secrets revealed and reputations destroyed before the truth is revealed.

Mackenzie Price is back! When a woman's body is found in her car boot, her newest case already seems personal - but the problem is she recognises the victim! It's the girlfriend of one of her fellow detectives, someone who went missing a year ago. On the body is a note - "You're welcome, Mackenzie". This sets off a chain of events that nobody would have predicted - someone is killing those who have wronged Mackenzie, someone who is obsessed with her.

This is another great book in the series - I was lucky to have read the previous one, so some of the loose ends from that book are tied up here. The ongoing story of Mackenzie's softening in attitude also plays a huge part in this book, so it's nice to see some character development! An easy 5* choice.

well written with a gripping storyline and well developed characters that were relatable and believeable. It was twisty and unpredictable and left me not knowing what was happening and what to expect, it was also dark and creepy in areas that I didn't expect but I loved.

Interesting book. I was not aware of the supernatural overtones. It was a welcome surprise.

Detective Mackenzie “Mack” Price is shocked to discover the body of a woman in the trunk of her car. She pockets the note included with the body. It is a note that says, “You’re welcome Mackenzie.” The victim is someone she knows.

When another body is found, with another note, it is again someone Mack knows. Obviously, this case is very personal.

Mack and her team scour the case and the various clues presented to them. They make little progress, beside becoming more confused. The story gets more creepy as time goes on.

They find a connection to some movers and shakers in the community and uncover a terrible conspiracy.

The identity of the murderer came as a surprise to me. Although, perhaps it shouldn’t have in hindsight.

I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this creepy book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.

This book gave me some "Aberration" by Lisa Regan vibes, which I read just prior to this.

I was sucked in from the first chapter of the book. Some parts were really creepy, because of the supernatural tone, it made the hair on my arms stand up.

Mackenzie Price is a detective in Lakemore, and the book starts with a party celebrating record low crime rates in the town. Well, like we know, one shouldn't speak too soon!

Mackenzie gets called out to a murder scene, notes are left at the scenes or on the bodies for Mackenzie, the killer is obsessed with the detective. The victims have a link to Mackenzie, and the race is on to find the killer before more murders occur.

Influential men are implicated and I loved the twists and turns that made me want to get to the end of the chapter to find the killer.

We fear the supernatural monsters in our minds, but the monsters that are human are far more frightening.

I loved this book and will definitely read more by this author.

Being a detective must be great. Looking for the clues and finding them, being able to piece everything together and finally putting a stop to the criminals.

But there are a lot of downsides too unfortunately. Having to deal with finding another victim, being held back by laws when you are certain you have found what or who you were looking for while baddies create their own rules and of course running the risk of being threatened or captured.

Kudos to all those police officers who try and fight to keep us safe.

Everybody has (had) people in their lives they did not like or wished they could make disappear. But you try to avoid that person or move on. What if now someone decides those people should be punished or even worse should be killed?

That is what is happening to Mack, but that’s not the only thing she has to deal with. She and her team and in fact the whole town are in for some nasty and shocking revelations.

I loved this book. I had all my money on one person. Did I become a wealthy woman or am I bankrupt now? You may guess twice… 😉

I think this was my favourite one in the series up till now even though I liked them all very much. 5 stars

Thank you
