I love this series with Cassie & this is another great addition. Cassie not solves a case involving a con man; but helps an old friend with a treasure hunt. Super fun & fast read.

Treasure state by CW box. After reading all of his previous novels about Ranger Joe Pickett and his family it is fun to find a new character in his writing; Private investigator Cassie dewell. This latest book is refreshing and fun. A very attractive con man and a mysterious clue to a hidden treasure brings Cassie, and her new assistant April Pickett, Joe Pickett's oldest daughter, to a small town in Montana. This book is very fast-paced with nothing unexplained. As always I enjoyed every page of it. I have never been disappointed in a book by Box. I look forward to the next novel by this exceptional author.

I'm telling you straight-up that I am a huge fan of C.J. Box novels. This newest, 6th installment of the Cassie Dewell series is hands down my favorite so far. Cassie is a former law enforcement officer turned Private Investigator with a growing business, growing son, and a quirky mother. I feel like Cassie comes into her own as both the lead character and a (mostly) respected PI in this book.

When asked to investigate the disappearance of a PI on the trail of a conman defrauding wealthy women, she quickly gets drawn into both cases. The setting for the story is Anaconda, Montana, the Treasure State, a beautiful area with a storied history and some imposing residents. The plot is intriguing and well-paced. The supporting characters are well-drawn and give some depth to both the setting and the story. If you haven't read any of the other Cassie Dewell books yet, fear not. You can jump in her without missing a beat.

Fans of Box's Joe Pickett series will enjoy Treasure State as well.

Always fun to read a book set in an environment one is unfamiliar with. Treasure State is a great fun read. Crisp writing and well developed plot. Always a treat to read a book by Mr. Box.

The Joe Pickett series is always going to be my favourite out of CJ Box’s books, but the Cassie Dewell series is still very good. I actually really enjoyed this book, it’s mostly about people coming to try to track down hidden treasure that an author says he’s hidden somewhere that you can find if you can interpret his letter properly. A bit of treasure hunting is always very interesting to me, so it was great to see something different in this book to the usual issues Cassie normally faces.

Treasure State the 6th book in the Cassie Dewell series is as good as anything CJ Box has written, and everything he has written has been outstanding. This book kept me guessing and I had to continue reading chapter after chapter to see what was going to happen next. I thought the book had a satisfying end and Cassie Dewell has solidified her standing as one of my favorite protagonists. Treasure State will be published on September 27th. Preorder from wherever books are sold and you will not be disappointed. I thank Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and give an honest review.

Treasure State: A Cassie Dewell Novel #6 by CJ Box is an interesting PI story that follows two cases.

The first case is the hunt for the treasure. Cassie has been hired by the owner of the treasure to find him! He wants to make sure no one can find him. He’s afraid if they know who he is they will be able to find the treasure. He wants them to find the treasure only by using the clues he left in a poem.

The second case is the more prominent story of a man who has been fleecing rich women. Lots of mystery, murder and intrigue.

I thought the endings could have been lengthier. A little more detailed for the con artist plot and I really felt the finding of the treasure deserved to have had a couple more chapters dedicated to it. After all, the whole buildup of the book was the treasure hunt. Overall, I enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone who likes CJ Box books and murder mysteries.

I usually love his books but this one wasn’t for me it seemed the author is trying to inject his personal political beliefs in the narrative and I just found it hard to stomach. It’s sad I’ve loved his other books but if this is the future I don’t know II want to read to Escape not be lectured on right wing politics

Cassie has been hired to find a con man who duped a woman out of millions. She is also trying to find out what happened to a previous PI who has disappeared. The book is told from multiple viewpoints going from the past to the present. There are a few twists to the story, most of them I figured out. This book is part of a series but could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Good book! This book had suspense, intrigue, murder, a great mystery, and a who done it! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my kindle! I will definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

I read this book on one long plane ride yesterday and liked it enough that when I woke up I was disappointed that it was finished.

There are two story lines and both alternate between various times in the past and present. I liked the jumps, but I know some people like straight story lines.

Montana P.I. Cassie Dewell is hired by a Florida woman to find the missing PI she had hired to find a guy who charmed her and then stole her money. She is also hired by someone who supposedly hid a pot of gold and wrote a poem hinting at where he had hidden it, causing lots of treasure hunters to flock to Montana looking for the gold.

There were a few things touched on that I wouldn't have noticed a decade ago, but in this polarized society I did. The author touches on covid and says that masks were useless. He also mentions, when someone is not charged with a murder because it is deemed to have been self-defense, that "self-defense is a controversial topic these days." with a response of "Not in Montana , it isn't".

I could have done without those comments.

Still, I liked the book and will go back and read some more with the Cassie Dewell character. I have read several books by this author and like the Dewell character a lot.

C.J. Box's TREASURE STATE, the sixth book in the Cassie Dewell series, is a lackluster entry. For whatever reason, Box seems to have decided to minimize any possibility of tension in this novel--early in the book, we know what's going on and who's doing it, and then the novel trudges toward a denouement that literally involves sitting at a table. Even a potential threat to people close to Cassie is immediately neutralized. The only mystery driving the engine of this story is the hidden treasure, and that mystery is solved off the page and in the final sentences of the book.

In Montana, a killer view can mean more than just the scenery, and Cassie knows much darker things hide behind the picturesque landscape of Big Sky Country. She's on the hunt for a slippery con man who’s disappeared somewhere in the “treasure state” and the trail takes Cassie to Anaconda, Montana, a quirky former copper mining town. There is a secondary plotline about the hunt for a buried treasure chest filled with gold worth millions and they touch and then interweave nicely.

I. Loved. This. Book. I think my favorite character was Kyle, although the rest of the "good guys" were very likable, as well. Cassie's investigation skills were brilliant! Ah, Cassie. This brings me to the only thing that prevented this from being a five-star read for me. Possibly I'm the only person who feels this way, but I don't care about a character's weight. I found the multiple references to Cassie's weight to be distracting.

However! I seriously did not want to put Treasure State down and felt extremely resentful when life kept preventing me from sitting and reading it all at one time! The book's alternating viewpoints and nonlinear timeline were easy to follow, even after my being forced to put the book down. I can't wait to read where Cassie, et al, go from here!!

Another good CJ Box book with private investigator Cassie Dewell. Starts with a call from Candice Fly of Boca Grande, Florida. She wants Cassie to find a gentleman that conned seven million dollars from her. Ms. Fry originally hired a private investigator by the name of J.D. Spengler of Tampa Bay, Florida. Cassie ended up solving the mystery of disappearance of J.D. Spengler, finding the con man and the band of individuals involved with him, and helping solve a three and one-half million dollar treasure hunt. Interesting book that involved a lot of different characters and easy and enjoyable to follow.

C. J. Box is like a fine wine, with each book better than the one before. Treasure State is another Cassie Dewell novel, one in which PI Dewell is connected to finding a treasure as well as stopping a con artist, Matthew Annan, who is stealing huge sums of money from lonely wealthy women. Dewell is in real danger from Annan and his confederates and requires all of her considerable skills to sidestep terrible harm.
Fascinating story, couldn't put it down until I was finished, enjoyed every minute. Can't wait for the next Box book to come available, love every hero Box has created.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book! I was hooked from the first page and couldn't stop reading. C.J. Box did not disappoint.
Box is a Wyoming native and has worked as a ranch hand, surveyor, fishing guide, small-town newspaper reporter, and editor, and he co-owns an international tourism marketing firm with his wife Laurie. They have three daughters. An avid outdoorsman, Box has hunted, fished, hiked, ridden, and skied throughout Wyoming and the Mountain West. He served on the Board of Directors for the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Box lives in Wyoming. When I read a book I like to know a little about the author. Also in the front of the book are three quotes. One from Matthew 6:21, John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley, and finally from William Blake, The Pickering Manuscript. This tells you a lot about the man behind the book. I have already preordered it for our library.

Treasure State by C.J. Box is book six in his Cassie Dewell series. Having read and loved book four in the series, The Bitterroots, I expected a good read, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Cassie Dewell, a Montana, the treasure state, private investigator and former sheriff’s deputy is back again; working cases for her clients, directing her mother, and caring for her son. Cassie is stretched thin with multiple cases, but she’s determined to stay on top of things and right wrongs.

C.J. Box employs alternating viewpoints and a nonlinear timeline in revealing the plot, using appropriate chapter headers to avoid confusing the reader. Box thoughtfully utilizes the Montana scenery with it’s awe-inspiring beauty. The compelling plot has completely unexpected twists, and the ending is entirely satisfying. Treasure State is a 5 out of 5 star read that I highly recommend to anyone looking for an entertaining thriller.

This is a quick read that held my attention as Box interlaces two stories. Dewell is hired to track down a missing private investigator who was investigating a conman defrauding rich women of millions. Box 's descriptions of the countryside and small cities left behind during changing times set the scene in Montana. He is great at building tension as Dewell without a safety net deals with the local Sheriff's office.
