The Soulmate

Meh! I give this one three stars. As a super fan of Sally Hepworth I naturally have high expectations when it comes to her books. Sadly, “The Soulmate “ disappointed me a bit.

One thing I love about Sally Hepworth is her mastery of characterization. As a matter of fact, she is so good at characterization that she manages to create two of the most annoying characters that I’ve come across.

“The Soulmate “ tells the story of Pippa and Gabe who are trapped in a codependent marriage. Gabe suffers from manic depression and for the better part of their marriage he has made reckless decisions that negatively affect him and his family. Pippa deals with his behavior by burying her head in the sand and pretending everything is okay just for the sake of maintaining their image of the perfect family. Well, that doesn’t work so well for her because it isn’t long before Gabe’s actions spill into other people’s lives, which ultimately leads to their destruction.

What I do like is how Pippa eventually faces reality and admits that all is not right with her marriage. As for Gabe, I do not think he understands the concept of accountability. By the end of the story he
Is still a clueless surfer boy who does not seem to have any remorse for what he has done.

If you’re looking to read a decent domestic suspense then by all means, pick this one up. However, if you want better then I suggest checking out Sally Hepworth’s backlist.
