Mindy Steel has become one of my favorite authors and I am always recommending her books.
It’s apple season but what do you do when you don’t have enough workers to help. Not only do you pray about what God wants you to do but you accept help from a stranger only to find that this person maybe who you have been looking for all along.

When Hannah’s father is killed in a construction accident, the apple orchard falls on her shoulders. She is strong, but trying to do all the work around the house and all the orchard upkeep is just too much. She is worn out. Her mother and sisters do their share, but they each have their own jobs to do. When her mother decides that Hannah needs help, they hire a local man, Leon to help through the apple harvest. Hannah is against it from the start, she knows Leon is a prankster and doesn’t think he can work hard enough.
The first day Leon shows up for work, Hannah gives his breakfast to the cat. Things can only get better after that start. This was a fun book to see how Hannah teaches Leon about apples and he attempts to teach her to swim.

Mindy Steele has become one of my must-read authors, she crafts characters with real life challenges, they have depth, faith and yes, a little fun along the way. The Miller Creek series is the perfect example of what I am trying to convey. The town has lost several men in an accident, leaving their loved ones to carry on without them. The widows, children are left with loving memories, but also the hard work of caring for farms, and in this book, an apple orchard.

I love the Amish matchmakers, that’s part of the fun I referred to earlier, they have good intentions that certain people may not recognize at first and that leads to some unwelcome meetings. In the case of Hannah and Leon, things get off to a contentious start to put it mildly. With a little help from family and friends, a lot of patience, the couple manage to work through their differences and accept they just might make things work.

Although this can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the series in order.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley. Opinions are my own.

Cicada Season is the third book in the Miller Creek Series. I loved the main characters, Hannah Troyer and Leon Milford. Hannah is still recovering from the loss of her father in a tragic accident two years ago, and Leon is working to fix his “bad boy” image. They learned to work together and trust in each other.
I jumped into the series and read this book first. I wish I had read the other two books before this one. It did not take away from my enjoyment of the story, but I would have understood the backstory more. I’m looking forward to more books in this series. Many thanks to Vinspire Publishing LLC and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I really enjoyed Cicada Season. Ever wish you could redo an event in your life? Interesting dual timeline story of love and forgiveness.

Two very strong willed characters who both face trials and humility. Mindy's story brings humor along with a lesson that even though we think we can do things on our own we always need help.
If you are looking for a book that will endear to your heart then this is the one for you.
I received an ARC copy from Mindy to read and review. The opinions are my own and I am under no obligation to leave a positive one

Cicada Season by Mindy Steeles is a delightful Amish novel. It is the third book in the Miller’s Creek series, but it can easily be read as a standalone (you will be missing out on two good stories). I like Mindy Steele’ writing style. It allowed me to become engaged in the story. We return to Miller’s Creek, Kentucky where Hannah Troyer has been working her family’s apple orchard on her own since her father’s passing. Her two sisters and her mother do their part, but they are unable to perform the harder tasks. Hannah misses her father, and she is going to continue his legacy even if it runs her into the ground. Leon Milford does not like to become bored. He has been unable to find a job that keeps his interest. His father tells Leon that he is the new hand for the Troyer family. Leon dreads the task. He has avoided Hannah ever since she bloodied his nose three times during youth volleyball games. A part of Leon, though, looks forward to seeing Hannah. No other maedel has captured his interest. Little does Leon know that the two Amish matchmakers at the bakery are behind his latest predicament. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor scattered throughout the story. It kept things lively. The matchmakers are fun. They do have a good track record. It appears one of them might find themselves matched up. The matchmakers may get some extra help for this particularly difficult match. Cicadas are a theme in the story. It was interesting to learn why they make such a racket. Hannah is a strong willed woman who does not suffer fools. It will take patience, love, and prayer to make Hannah see what a special man Leon truly is. I laughed often while reading Cicada Season. It livened up a gloomy rainy afternoon. Cicada Season has realistic characters and situations. I felt for the women who had lost their loved ones (thirty-five men died in a building accident). This story has love, friendship, family, laughter, tears, tasty food, a bad casserole, and loud cicadas. Faith was beautifully incorporated into the story. There are some good life lessons. I enjoyed my time in Miller’s Creek and I hope to return soon. Cicada Season is an inspiring tale with a crummy chicken casserole, a determined maedel, scheming matchmakers, chirping cicadas, a wayward brother, an abundance of apples, and a stressful drawing of the lot.

Author Mindy Steele has become a favorite of mine. And Cicada Season may be my favorite book of hers. Steele knows how to write humor, and I laughed from beginning to end.

Fun, quirky characters bring this story to life. Matchmakers and the Milford half dozen are quite the combination. Crazy things happen, but I’m not going to tell you what. You’ll need to read it for yourself.

Hannah and Leon are at odds. One is serious, and one is very sure of himself. It makes for a great story as we watch them begin to trust and understand each other through the Cicadas. Warm, sweet, and humorous, as well as healing, there is something for everyone in this story.

While Cicada Season can be read as a stand alone, I highly recommend the first two books in the series, To Catch a Hummingbird and The Butterfly Box. Both are equally as good and they will bring an extra depth to Cicada Season.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Loved this book so very much! I didn't want to put it down for anything!
Definitely a lot going on in this story and yes you'll laugh out loud at some scenes in this book. I was glad that Mindy Steele has added some humor.
The thing that amazed me most was how the town of Miller's Creek picked up after a terrible disaster but it just goes to show us that life goes on and at times it is rough. I definitely understand loss. This book gives us a whole new look at this awful word.
I thought Hannah was a great character!, It's not her or anyone's fault in how life happened. I loved how the author portrayed her. I admired her from the get go. I can't imagine being the oldest and having all that responsibility thrust on me.
I dd however wished she'd lighten up some and except the help that was offered. I mean, isn't that what Amish communities do?
Leon isn't really perfect either. I think that's why I loved him so much! In a way it's perfect in what his father did to him though. That made me laugh too. He deserved it. It took this to make him the person I was rooting for him to be.
Sometimes it just takes a little growing up for things to be. Timing is everything.
What I didn't like was that a couple of characters were very overbearing. Tanner was too prideful.
I especially loved the story of the cicadas. Makes look attempting in whole new way.
Lessons are to be learned throughout this novel and reminders too that God is always in control and always will be. Worry is a waste of time and so is anger.
Life is short and so we must live each day like God wants us too.
5 stars for a well written story. I highly recommend.
My thanks for a copy of this wonderful book.

Hannah Troyer's father died and she thinks she has to do everything to keep the apple orchid going. She works hard and will not take charity or help. When the local bakery ladies from the Millers Creek bakery find out that they need help there matchmaking skills start to come together. They want to match one of the Milford boys to come to the rescue. Leon Milford is the chosen one and his father sends him and Leon does not want anything to do with the red head Hannah. Hannah gave him several bloody noses and he wants no part. This is a cute love story and has some laughs in it also. Fun characters and love to see the matchmakers at work again.

This tale is one filled with a determined Hannah and hardworking Leon. Hannah isn’t afraid to let everyone know how she feels about Leon Milford. Reading this tale, I could sense the anger she felt when Leon arrived at her family’s farm to assist with the orchard and upkeep that she was trying to keep going in memory of her father. The ins and outs of their conversations were quick and direct until Leon explained the life of the noisy Cicadas that she despised. How will these two come to peace with one another? This story has several understanding faith messages including that everyone and everything has a purpose in God’s beautiful world.

I received an advance e-copy of this book from NetGalley and the author without any obligation to write a positive review. I have expressed my own opinion.

This book is full of emotions. It's well written and holds your attention from the first page until the last. It's a story that deals with grief and how everybody grieves differently. Great book for fans of Amish fiction.

I quit reading Amish Fiction for a while because a lot of what I was reading was so syrupy sweet, but this book isn't that way at all. I have never encountered a protagonist I liked less, but Hannah's chip on her shoulder was hard to overcome.

Hannah and her family are struggling to keep their farm going since her father died in a tragic accident. Leon Milford has been hired by Hannah's mother to help out around the farm, especially with the apple harvest. Hannah hates Leon--as much as an Amish person hates. Her tongue is sharp and she doesn't allow Leon to see a tender side, but for some reason, Leon begins to care for Hannah.

Leon has his own problems--he has a reputation as a prankster to overcome and Hannah refuses to see that he's grown up.

This book was hard to read; Mindy Steele has not given her protagonists likable personalities. Secondary characters are more likable but are underhanded in their actions. The whole book left me feeling "meh." Two stars.

Vinspire Publishing, LLC, provided the copy I read for this review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

This book was , quote “ Peppered with humor and sprinkled with grace”. Cicada Season is a book with many lovable and strong characters. Part of a series, I read it as a standalone and was able to follow along with the story. I do feel that if I had read the other books of the series first, I would have known the characters better and the book’s beginning might not have been as confusing . This was a story about two Amish matchmakers who were very good at getting couples together. It is also about overcoming grief and the strong hold it has on the family members as they learn to live with out their loved ones. It’s also about every day life in an Amish community. I found myself immersed into the book and enjoyed my time spent in Millers Creek Kentucky. It was entertaining and easy to read and had a wonderful ending.

Millers Creek Kentucky is a community that is recovering from an accident in that town that took the lives of approximately 35 men working on a job site. Many widows and children were left without a husband and father. Most of them were Amish men who died that day. Fast forward to two years later we have two Amish matchmakers, Hazel Miller, a widow herself, and her mother Rose Miller who have already gotten couples together and married off and living happily ever after lives. These two women own and operate a successful Amish bakery in town and everyone goes there for their baked goodies.

Hannah Troyer lost her Dad two years ago in that accident and she still grieves his loss to this day. Being the oldest child she is trying to pick up where her Dad left off by running a farm and large apple orchard. She is tired and worn out with little sleep. Hannah isn’t married and she sure doesn’t intend ever to marry. Why if she were to marry, a man would then get control over her Dads orchards and try to change things from the way her Dad had set things up. The matchmakers have set their sights on Hannah Troyer and Leon Milford. Hannah and Leon can’t stand each other. The matchmakers enlist the help of Hannah and Leon’s mothers to get these two together. When Hannah’s Mother hired Leon to be a handy man on the farm and to help her daughter work the orchards the two are forced to see each other on a daily basis. Find out how this situation works out and if the scheming matchmakers can get these two together , when you read Cicada Season by Mindy Steele.

I recommend this book to readers of Amish fiction and Amish Romance. This is book 3 of the Millers Creek Matchmakers series. I read it as a standalone book but I feel I would have gotten to know the many characters better if I’d started reading the series at book one. This book is scheduled to be released on 9/27/22.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

Loved the term Half Dozen Mamm! I did find myself getting the six brothers confused because their names all started with the letter L. So many men lost in a horrible accident left this town in quite a state. People handle their grief in many ways as portrayed in this story. Readers will feel the depths of Hannah's grief through her actions and words. Leon had a different struggle as he tried to understand Hannah while also dealing with his brother's disappearance. Readers will have to read to find out if the matchmaking worked in this heartwarming tale.

This is the third book in this series, but the author does a great job of bringing you up to date, and this can be read alone.
This is Hannah Troyer's story, a woman, or girl, that on the death of her father, took over the farm, and apple grove, she is struggling, but providing for her mother and sisters. Her mother, and others, manage to hire Leon Milford, a young Amish man that she managed to beat up.
Can these two stop beating heads for the betterment of all? It sure doesn't seem so, although Leon is working beyond expectations, Hannah doesn't want him on her land!
These are people who live their faith, they give in time of need, and even with the disaster that struck Milford, life goes on.
Come and journey with us for healing, and the acceptance of wayward members, and the rebirth of this town with new life, and healing.
