Thank you Netgalley and bookouture for an ARC of The Girlfriend in exchange for my honest opinion.

"My husband’s dead. She’s at my door. She owns my home…

The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her buttery blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms.

As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts.

She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I know this will be hard to hear. But I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.’

My world implodes. And then she tells me that she owns our home – and that she’s not going anywhere…""

Told from the point of view of the wife, the mistress and the couples teenage son, we swing between finding out how the mistress could possibly own the house as she claims. I enjoyed it and raced through this book as I needed to find out the ending. One of the twists I had guessed butr it diddn't take away from the enjoyment of the book.

She just brings the suspense with every book she writes. And I love it.
I know when I pick her books up that I'm in for a wild twisted ride.

The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater was just as I anticipated..... jaw-dropping!

Jennifer and Cole Fincham are happily married with two children. Jennifer thought so anyways..
Getting ready for a party Jennifer gets the most devastating news no wife should ever hear....
Her husband has been in an accident and passed away.
Shortly after the death of her husband she meets Sara who shows up at her house with a baby in her arms stating Rory is Cole's son. Obviously insinuating an affair.
Thinking things couldn't get any worse Sara throws another bomb at Jennifer saying her house belongs to Sara and Cole. Sara let's Jennifer and her children stay in the home with Sara for the time being. Because she has made it loud and clear that she isn't going no where anytime soon.
Things start to take a sharp and unexpected turn when the police discover that Cole was in no accident that he was for sure murdered.

The Girlfriend is fantastically written, another amazing success from Slater.
The characters in this book were well-developed and we got to know them better as the story went on.
I felt the story was very cleverly crafted and smartly executed.
K.L. is the queen of compelling narratives and twisty plots. She knows how to keep your attention right up to the very shocking end.
She definitely took me on a thrilling ride of dizzying twists and shocking revelations.
And proves yet again why I love her books so much.
A story that is full of deceptions; revelations; death and lies you're going be blown away by Slater's newest novel.

Thank you Netgalley & Bookouture for an eARC of The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater. WOW! I absolutely loved this book. I read it in a few hours and count not put it down.

What’s it about?
Jennifer and Cole have two children and share a newly renovated home. Jennifer’s putting the finishing touches on their halloween party when police knock at the door to tell her that her husband is dead. Reeling from the shock, thinking things can’t possibly get any worse - they do. A woman is at the doorstep with a baby boy in her arms. She not only claims that she is Cole’s girlfriend and the baby is his son, but that she owns their home, and she doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon.

This book was SO good and twisty. POVs alternating between Jennifer, Cole, the police, Jennifer’s son and Sara (The girlfriend), each with their own flair and personality while reading. I loved the police POV, giving the procedural flair to this psychological thriller. It can be tough for a book to juggle multiple POVs and dual timelines, but Slater does this expertly in this book. There was no way that I could’ve guessed the ending to this one and just how crazy it would get. I recommend going into it blindly and enjoying the ride. This was my first book by this author and now I need to add their entire backlist to my TBR!

This is a brilliant psychological thriller that will definitely have you racing through the pages.
Jennifer receives some shocking news and her life will never be the same again.
On top of her husband dying, a woman shows up with a baby and says she’s Cole’s girlfriend and she will be moving into the house.
Jennifer can barely think straight but is determined that her and her children will not be homeless, so she gives it a go.
Things don’t go as smoothly as she hoped and soon Jennifer has to fight for her family.
This is a great read that I’d highly recommend.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Jennifer and Cole Fincham have the perfect life. They have two beautiful children and a newly big, renovated house. Jennifer is overseeing the last-minute details of the Halloween Party she is about to throw. When there is a knock on the door and the police are on the doorstep.
Jennifer’s world falls apart when she hears that her husband Cole has died in a Car accident. But a few days later her life is going to get worse when there is a woman at the front door claiming to Cole’s girlfriend with a baby in tow, who is the spitting image of Cole. The woman Sarah also claims that has saved their business buy buying into it which means the house and everything in it is hers. At first Jennifer thinks she is going to be evicted. When instead of evicting her, she wants to move in.
So, when she moves in Jennifer finds out that her marriage wasn’t as perfect as she thought it was and most of it was a lie and can’t understand why Sarah wants to move in. But Jennifer senses something is not right with Sarah and does her own investigation to find out what it is.
Thank you Bookoutre for a copy of The Girlfriend by K. L. Slater. I have read most of the authors work and she has outdone herself with this one. This is another unputdownable fast read from the author and I basically read it in one sitting until the early hours of the morning. This is not your typical domestic thriller when you find out your man is cheating. I found this to be a unique twisty thriller and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 5 stars from me.

I was expecting a predictable (I’m proud to say I predicted the killer) thriller that fed into the classic tropes: husband who over compensates, daddy never believed in him, and riddled with financial turmoil. Oblivious wife who signs whatever her husband puts in front of her. And a rich, beautiful, calculating, and mentally unwell mistress. Although that all may be true, I was thoroughly entertained. I don’t say this often, but when I do, I mean it- I could not put this down! I read it in two sittings. I was fueled to speed through by my hatred of the villain (or who we’re meant to believe is the villain) and the secrets the author kept alluding to. I was surprised and enjoyed the abrupt reveals like, “I always knew he was married with children.” Because my first question was, does the girlfriend know he has a wife? The author did a good job representing multiple points of view and jumping between different time periods. Starting the initial chapters off with the time of day created a sense or urgency befitting the occasion. I’ve never read K.L Slater before but now I’d like to read their other works. I’m reviewing The Girlfriend as part of an advanced copy giveaway so I feel the need to give more feedback on something I wish could be edited. When speaking about Halloween costumes, the author uses the word “spook”, which is an incredibly offensive racial slur in the United States. The word should be replaced in future prints.

I love K.L. Slater as an author and have read most of her novels. I was super excited to read this new novel and could not wait to get started.

The blurb reads

I was so disappointed with this novel, I only ready 69% but I just could not carry on with it. The blurb read amazingly but for me personally it was so farfetched I could not believe the main character. We meet Jennifer and Cole, who live in a newly renovated house, have a lavish lifestyle and are about to throw an amazing Halloween party. They have two kids, Miller and Sylvie.

Cole ends up leaving the house in his top notch range rover and unfortunately is in an accident where he is pronounced dead. A day later, Jennifer is confronted by Sara who insists that she is Coles girlfriend and she arrives with their son. Jennifer is devastated as many a wife would be but that is not the only thing that is about to make Jennifer's life come tumbling down. Apparently Cole was in huge debt and Sara was footing the bill for the new cars, all the renovations and then to top it off, the house Jennifer is living in is actually Saras and she owns it. So Sara, who is not as straightforward as she seems, suggests on moving in with Jennifer and her kids - she moves in and takes over Jennifer and Cole's old marital bedroom, now for me this is where I just felt awkward reading about this and did not make much sense, so I decided to leave it where it was and read something else.

I have loved K.L Slater's previous novels and was so disappointed in having to leave this novel.

Thanks to the author, Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Twists and turns until the last few pages of this book. I enjoyed it. I had a hard time putting it down because it seemed every couple of pages had a new twist to it!!

Cole has a loving wife and 2 kids and a 6 month old with a mistress. After an accident that takes Cole’s life, everything starts coming out. What could go wrong when The mistress moves into the widows house?

Goodness! What a fantastic novel! It’s one of those you think about and read right into the early hours if the morning. No wonder I’m tried today!

When I started this book I wasn’t sure where the storyline would lead as the blurb seemed quite detailed and covered what I thought would be a lot of the storyline.

Once I was about half way in I found it was really well written and the context of the storyline really was twisty with many surprises I didn’t anticipate.

As always KL Slater has delivered another fabulous thriller which kept me captivated throughout. It just oozes thrills, shocks and twists! Loved it!

Finding out your husband has just been killed in an accident is bad enough. Having a woman you've never seen before then turn up on your doorstep announcing that she's his girlfriend, the mother of his baby, oh and by the way she owns your house and everything else, is just the icing on the cake. Safe to say, things are not going well for Jennifer and her two children. But what's Sara, the girlfriend, really up to, and is everything quite how it seems? (Spoiler: no.)

If you can suspend your disbelief, this was an enjoyable enough read with plenty of the obligatory twists and turns. The writing style is quite prosaic (I go upstairs. I lie on my bed. I feel hollow and empty, etc) but this genre of domestic thriller is all about plot rather than elegant writing.

I didn't particularly like where they ended up going with Sara's character and motivations - without giving too much away, it's not a trope I'm fond of.

The story did keep my interest and was ok as an escapist read, but I doubt it will stick in my mind.

This was my first KL Slater book but I will definitely be checking out her other titles. I noticed many other titles available in the Audible Plus program so I’ll start listening to the back catalogue pronto!
As for this book, it was an action-packed domestic thriller from start to finish! When Cole Finchman dies, his widow Jennifer discovers that he was living a double life. In a shocking twist right out of the gate, his girlfriend, and baby mama Sara, shows up with paperwork and a claim that she now owns the family home. Jennifer, Sara, and their children try to find a way to live together under the same roof with so much history and lies between them.
While I thought things started to unravel a bit at the end, the story did hold together well on the whole and I was there for it all!

*Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for the advance review copy.

In a flash Jennifer's picture perfect life is over when her husband dies in an accident and his mistress and illegitimate baby boy show up at her door. Sara seems to be holding all the cards a long with Cory's baby boy. But Jennifer isn't buying Sara's whole story and in the midst of trying to protect and help her own children cope she decides it's time to look in to her husbands questionable past. This was a fast paced page turner that gave little clues throughout until they all came together at the end.

I enjoy K.L. Slater’s books and I was happy to receive an ARC of her latest work. The Girlfriend is a fast-paced and fun read, just what I’ve come to expect from Slater.

Despite Cole’s past indiscretion, Jennifer and Cole have a good life. Jennifer trusts her husband and the life they’ve built together. When Cole suddenly and unexpectedly dies, Jennifer realizes how misplaced her trust in Cole has been. Sara, Cole’s girlfriend, shows up at Jennifer’s home, with a love child in tow, to inform Jennifer of the affair. To make matters worse, Jennifer also learns that Sara is the beneficiary of all of Cole’s assets, including the house she’s living in. But Sara proposes they share the residence to allow their children to grow up together as siblings. To give herself time to sort through the mess of her life, Jennifer agrees to the proposition.

What could possibly go wrong?! And how can any of this even be possible?

Slater weaves a wild and perplexing tale. As a reader, the story held my interest throughout. The final twist was not entirely unexpected but it was enjoyable and plausible. Overall, this was a nice and quick read and I recommend it!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.

While I found this book a quick read, that grabbed my attention in the beginning, I had a hard time getting through it. I found myself getting easily distracted by other things and not being able to focus on what I was reading. I did find the premise really intriguing and think it could be perfect for someone. It just wasn’t it for me unfortunately.

The Girlfriend by K. L. Slater *Book Review* (5
K. L. Slater is the mastermind behind The Girlfriend and an amazing writer. With all of the different plot twists, the novel is hard to put down.
The plot of The Girlfriend sounds crazy. How could the mistress possibly be the legal owner of the family house of her boyfriend? As I read the book my mind was constantly trying to figure out the truth of what was happening in front of me. I couldn’t possibly imagine being recently widowed, his mistress pops up to tell me that he was unfaithful and to top it all off... his mistress is saying her newborn is my husband’s child. And I have no legal claim to my house because it’s hers and she’s the one that funded my lifestyle. I would have fainted right then and there. And all of this is just the tip of the iceberg! This is just within the first few pages!
Read The Girlfriend available on October 27th to find out what happens next in the story. You don't want to miss what happens next! I promise you will be shocked by the end of the book!
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture, for sharing this wonderful book with me. I love every page of this book!

Jennifer and Cole previously hit a rocky patch, but that is all in the past and their life with their two children has now settled down and the renovations of their perfect house are complete. They hold an annual Halloween party, and this year is no exception, but this time it’s going to be a much bigger and more expensive celebration. That is until Cole crashes his car on the day of the party and is killed.

Jennifer’s world collapses in an instant and as she is reeling from the death of her husband, a few days later there is a knock at the door. There stands Sara, a beautiful young woman who announces she has been in a relationship with Cole and in her arms is their six-month old son. As the story unfolds Jennifer soon realises that her relationship with Cole was a lie and that even their gorgeous house doesn’t belong to them. Under duress, Jennifer agrees to Sara moving into her home, and soon Sara’s manipulating ways cause further upset between Jennifer and her children.

Jennifer knows there is more to Sara’s story than she has been led to believe and vows to uncover the truth no matter what the cost.

There are plenty of twists and turns in this book and definitely some which you don’t see coming. It doesn’t have the usual fast gripping pace that I have come to expect from this author. I did enjoy reading it, but for me this isn’t up there with KL Slater’s best books.
