Your Place Or Mine?

In 24hrs, Serena finds herself homeless and unemployed , but when her friend Taylor offers her house for a short period while she is on her honeymoon Serena is thrilled until she finds out that she will be sharing the house with Ziggy a friend of Taylor's husband, with no other option Serena agrees and they become roomies. However, each one of them is plotting against the other to move out. So will they be successful or will love find a way and sneak between them?
This was a humorous and light rom-com. I liked the schemes each arranged against the other, the characters were sweet, and it had short and fast-paced chapters which made it an effortless read.
Overall, it was delightful and entertaining and I liked it.
Thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for granting me an ARC of #YourPlaceOrMine in exchange of my honest review.

This book was sweet!

Your Place or Mine? is a sweet romcom about two unexpected roommates. What initially drew me to it was the description; it reminded me a lot of the movie Life as We Know it! Similar idea where couple introduces their best friends to each other, but this one has a different twist.

I really enjoyed the book and thought there was a lot of heart behind it. I really liked the antics the characters got into!

Really enjoyed this
2 strangers Serena and Ziggy end up sharing their friends almost completely renovated house while their mutual friends are going away. unfortunately there is only 1 completed bedroom, the other is still a wreck so they have to decide who gets it,
Both decide they don't really like each other and would like the house to themselves so set about trying to get the other to leave

I liked this story about Serena and Ziggy. Housemates from hell and pranksters. Full of romance, poignancy and feelings. I liked Serena's relationship with Diana too. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.

Thank you NetGalley, Portia and Boldwood Books for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This fell flat for me. I read Portia's books before and was so disappointed in this one because I enjoyed her other books so much! I found myself wanting to DNF this about 48% of the way through. I finally got the twist mid-way and that made it somewhat bearable to continue reading - which is why I gave it 3.5 stars.

i really enjoyed this book!! it had so any side plots to this story not just your regular romance. I loved seeing the relationship develop and the character development of both the MCs.

Portia always knows how to write an engaging book and this one is no exception. I love the writing style as always. It's fun, vibrant, funny and romantic. What more could you ask for.

Your Place Or Mine had a hook that immediately attracted me, and having read Portia's books previously I was immediately on board. Ziggy and Serena both move into their friends house while they go travelling, and while the blurb might give the vibe of The Flat Share or The Roommate, YPOM ventures into many different stories with the central characters beyond what was showcased. What may come across as a simple romance in the end shows the complexities of two different people who come together and end up living together. Yes you get the close proximiety trope, but their relationship is not the central story here, the individuals are.

An enjoyable, easy read that maybe doesn't quite match its description.

Escapism at its best: entertaining, a lot of humour, fleshed out characters.
A compelling novel that made me laugh and have a good time.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

Another fun read from this author and another that I thoroughly enjoyed.

This book starts off with Serena in Diana’s tearoom, a job she loves owned by a woman she adores. Sadly things change and Serena finds herself out of a job and looking for somewhere to live. Luckily for her she has a friend heading overseas so it’s perfect timing for her to look after the place while she tries to find a job. Unfortunately her friends house comes with a surprise, a surprise with the name Ziggy.

❤️ Forced Proximity
❤️ Enemies to Lovers

This pair absolutely detest one another so we are definitely in for some fun times. They made me laugh out loud at their antics.

Loved the storyline and some great characters, a quick and easy book to read.

Thank you so much to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy of this book, all thoughts are my own.

This is supposed to be a laugh out loud rom-com but I found it lacking in both the romance and the comedy. It wasn’t a bad read but it wasn’t what I was expecting. It also doesn’t match the blurb. The flatmates trying to drive each other out of the house makes up a tiny fraction of the plot. There’s more focus on Serena coming up with weird ways of dealing with Dean. Ziggy and Serena moved from enemies to adorable pretty quickly and there was a severe lack of tension. The characters also felt a lot younger. The subplots and supporting characters were fun though.

Thank you Boldwood Books for this great experience. Portia MacIntosh made me laugh and cry and everything between. It was smuth with just saying things about realationships. Loved every word, chapters and lines between. The story was about a simple girl that was not lucky in love and remained without a boss she loved and work with a place to stay. But as always happen in life she got a new opportunity, new doors opened and so much better for her. She stands for her once and she got everything she desired and more. Tothally in love after reading this book.

What a cute read - with the perfect amount of petty (and not-so-petty) revenge. This was a delightful blend of clever and sweet, cute and funny. I rooted for the characters even when I was frustrated with their apparent lack of foresight (because where would our stories be if everyone had even a slight idea of what was going on?) and my heart hurt for them when theirs were hurt. This was a fairly lighthearted read even with the sometimes intense subject matter.

This was a fun twist on the forced proximity trope that I am not usually a fan of but in this case it did work for me.
Serena and Ziggy move into their friends house who are going on an extended honeymoon. Serena is a friend of the bride and has recently lost her job and her home when her boss, who also happened to be her friend and landlord, passed away. Ziggy is a friend of the groom and is part of a band and is struggling to get along with his band mates so when the opportunity to share the house while the happy couple travels for a few months they begrudgingly agree to share it and take care of some of the minor repairs since they have no place else to go.
Of course, since they don’t know each other, they have different styles and schedules and both work to try and get the other to move out, but the more time they spend together hating the other, the more the fine line between love and hate becomes blurred.
Serena’s boss leaves her something unexpected in her will and that changes everything as well. There were several twists to the story and who doesn’t love an enemies to lovers storyline?
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

“Grief is the cost of love. If you feel a lot of sadness to have lost someone, they must have given you a hell of a lot of love while they were alive.”

Things I struggled with:
✔️understanding Serena’s thought patterns and her willingness to risk her happiness
✔️misleading synopsis; prank wars were mild in comparison to what a generous part of the book was focused on
✔️connecting to Ziggy; I think I’m too old for books like this!!!!
✔️character’s behaviour didn’t always reflect their age
✔️pacing issues - almost DNF at 1/3 of the way through but knew I had committed to a book tour!

Things I enjoyed:
✔️plenty of great characters showing growth
✔️lots of subplots to keep me interested
✔️laugh out loud moments
✔️insight into being ‘the other woman’
✔️prank wars
✔️good emotional balance with grief and humour
✔️mindless entertainment

This is my very first Portia Macintosh book. My curiosity is filled and I was entertained - that’s all I was asking for during this week between holidays! For those who love romcoms, friends-to-lovers and forced proximity tropes will love this one. I can see why this author is so wildly popular.

I was gifted this copy by Boldwood Books and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

I can always rely on Portia to write a book that not only makes me laugh so hard but also makes me feel so happy. After reading this I will never look at the millennium falcon in the same way again.

Portia always makes me feel like I'm in the book and I feel like I've made new friends. I always look forward to reading Portia's books and can't wait for the next one.

DNF at 35%

The premise of the book had such potential, an enemies to lovers roommate romcom?? I thought I was going to love this. Unfortunately however I could not even finish the book nor get halfway through it. Usually when I pick up a romance book I can tell from the first few chapters if I'm either going to love it or hate it. Unfortunately this book fell into the later category. The writing style was just not for me nor were the characters. Because this story is 1st person POV and I really felt no connection to the main character at all there was nothing tying me to the beginning of the story. I am a reader who loves character driven stories so the fact that this aspect was missing here definitely translated into my negative feelings toward the book. I felt like everything fell flat and there wasn't anything hooking me to the story to want to stay and continue. Despite the potential sadly this just wasn't the right book for me.

Thanks first to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.
This was just...ok. Not great, not bad, just center of the road ok. The characters themselves are alright, but some of the sub story lines could have been fleshed out SO much better. An older woman owning a sex shop? Super intriguing. A huge, successful business being put to auction, and it meaning more to others than to the owner's own children? That's got some great potential. Even the cheating sub-arc...the direction was meh, at best.
Overall I was very underwhelmed. It's good for a quick mindless read as long as you choose to not dig in very deep.
