I'm a big fan of Grant's podcasts, but this was my first of his books, and I found it to fairly helpful. It's thought-provoking, has some valuable information, and very accessible – good for those who are new to his work and/or the self improvement genre, but not too basic for those more familiar with this brand of writing. The practical tips offered are easily applicable without requiring too much time. Instead, they encourage a mental shift towards valuing specific skills, habits, and character traits. While it might sound a bit cliché, the book genuinely instills a sense of empowerment.

Adam Grant is a master of synthesizing massive amounts of research and data into a narrative that feels relevant to one's life. There are so many take aways in Hidden Potential for one to examine their own performance and how it could and should be measured as well as giving grace to readers who may feel they've fallen short. There were also a great many insights into successful systems and societal structures that I found made this a worthwhile read.

This is a well written and compelling read about everyone’s Hidden Potential. Grant using fascinating examples to highlight his theories that prove anyone can unlock their potential. The audiobook is read by Grant himself and it was great to hear his ideas in his own words. This is a great book to recommend to inspire in the New Year.

HIDDEN POTENTIAL is another insightful text by organizational psychologist Adam Grant (Think Again). Here, he explores "The Science of Achieving Greater Things," emphasizing the importance of character traits like proactivity, discipline, and determination. He argues that these skills can be learned and nurtured, leading to a huge impact. In fact, Grant writes, "Potential is not a matter of where you start, but of how far you travel. We need to focus less on starting points and more on distance traveled." Grant uses research and examples from numerous fields (and countries, particularly Finland) to support his arguments about making learning fun and building a love of reading. HIDDEN POTENTIAL received a starred review from Kirkus. Given his emphasis on the important role that teachers (and parents) play, this title would make a fascinating all school read – worthy of faculty discussion time with Grant's guide. I am also curious how individual teachers, administrators, and students would respond to his quiz about imperfectionists, discomfort seekers, and sponges. A significant portion of the text is devoted to notes and there is an "Actions for Impact" summary which lists Grant's "top 40 practical takeaways for unlocking hidden potential and achieving greater things;" just the right number to explore one idea per week during the average school year. 4.5 stars

This was my first Adam Grant book and I read it because I am part of Sharon McMahon's book club. I was blown away. What an interesting read! I found myself sharing stories from the book with my family and colleagues. One of the ideas that stuck with me the most is making practice fun. My son is an athlete and I couldn't wait to tell him how Steph Curry adopted this approach and found it to be beneficial. I also enjoyed the chapter about learning another language. I was a French teacher and what Grant recommended was exactly what I tell people who want to learn a new language. You have to put yourself out there and speak without worrying about getting everything. I think fans of Malcolm Gladwell's books, would really enjoy this one. Thanks so much for the ARC!

This was a thought provoking look at why some people succeed, often in situations where the cards seemed stacked against them. I found the book helpful in terms of thinking about the hidden potential in myself, but even more, with the students that I work with. There were a number of little nuggets that I know I will take with me. The biggest is the idea if we want to grow we need to be willing to make ourselves uncomfortable. There is a little bit here on a lot of different ideas. I especially liked that it was backed up with solid research and studies.

Another informative and interesting read from Adam Grant. Think Again is one of my favorite books to recommend, and Hidden Potential lived up to my hype for all things Grant writes. He weaves storytelling and information in a way that keeps you hooked, and I find myself walking away with so many nuggets of wisdom and new perspectives. I also loved that the audiobook featured audio clips from interviews and other sources.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin/Viking for the ARC, and Libro.fm for the ALC.

In "Hidden Potential," Adam Grant takes a fresh look at what it takes to improve and possibly become "great." The book challenges assumptions that people make about "gift," talent, and the best conditions for success. Interestingly enough, I think that fans and critics of Malcolm Gladwell will appreciate the perspectives in "Hidden Potential."
