This was such a fun read! I forgot how much I enjoy graphic novels, I inhaled this in one sitting. Being a paranormal investigator totally sounds like something I'd love to do as a job haha! I definitely have questions after this first installment - What exactly is Ichabob (demon? spirit?... ?????)? What's behind Alice's shield?? Is that mark on Ellie's had nefarious? As you can see, I'm hooked and need book 2! Thankfully for me, season 2 is already up on webtoon!!!

Okay so I didn’t realize how much I missed WEBTOON until diving into this read right here. Tales like Lore Olympus, the Cursed Princess Club, Purple Hyacinth, I Love Yoo, and so many more dominated my time for a while there back when I was in college and I definitely missed the colorful, creative stories. I actually think I remember the first episode or at least the cover for this one popping up that I told myself I’d get back to later and then promptly forgot about once graduation loomed on the horizon 🙈

No time like the present to circle back though! And it was just as enjoyable as I’d imagined it to be. The art was gorgeous, the storyline was right up my alley with its urban fantasy goodness, and the pull from the Headless Horseman retelling with Ichabod’s character? Loved! Girl down on her luck with normal jobs trying to find a space where she fits and that space just happens to be of the supernatural variety. So completely cool!

But I did wish there was more. I didn’t fully dock my enjoyment of this read, especially after remembering that WEBTOON is made up of episodes which explained the time jumps, but my greedy self wanted more story to fill those gaps. The world was just so fascinating and the characters so interesting that I just wish they could’ve been expanded on even more. At the same time, to keep with the conversion of WEBTOON to graphic novel, even something like a transition page from one job episode to the next would’ve helped smooth those time jumps to be less jarring.

Don’t get me wrong, overall I really really enjoyed this read for so many different reasons. I think I’ve just gotten used to thick reads with in-depth world-building while shifting into my fantasy book era and that just skewed my enjoyment slightly.

The webtoon unscrolled watermark hindered my ability to read this fully, and the pixilation within the panels was atrocious. It's really hard to properly follow along in a graphic novel when some panels are too grainy to read. That being said, I enjoyed the premise and enjoyed the art style. Please consider editing the panels so they make more sense. Currently, the reader has to do a lot of background assumption for it to be easy to digest. In addition, Ellie knowing Gideon does not make any sense to me. We never met Gideon. We met Saul. I would love to continue on in this series, but only if the information is delivered in a way that works better for a reader like me. Night shift jobs? Secret powers? Paranormal pumpkins? What's not to love?

I really enjoyed this graphic novel and I already cannot wait until the next one comes out, which is always a good sign for me.I really enjoyed reading about Ellie and Ichabod, but I wish the story went a little more into their different backstories as well as them together while not being on jobs. I also wouldn't mind having a little more info on the different side characters, especially Katherine the librarian (as someone who used to work at a library, yes I can believe some of the stuff that gets donated).

Ellie is a bit down on her luck at the moment. With no job, no money, and almost no apartment, things are becoming desperate. That all changes when a mysterious pumpkin-headed man falls from the sky, entangled in a fierce battle with a raging hell beast. Not exactly something that happens every day, After suddenly manifesting psychic abilities, Ellie helps him fight off the creature, in return receiving an offer of a job as a paranormal investigator. Spooky shenanigans ensue along with a growing mystery that hides an unknown peril.

Unfortunately, I don't think I had as great of a time with this title as other readers. Many elements really felt flat to me: the story, the world, the colors, the characters. The action sequences were exciting at least, conveying a great amount of energy and tension. But I don't think the comic ever truly landed with me.

I think Ellie as a character had to do with a lot of it. She seems to fall into that character trope of "klutzy for the sake of being endearing/plot reasons," and doesn't really have much of a personality. Even when her powers manifest, there is no curiosity as to HOW she got those powers in the first place. She just seems to go along with everything and, while she does ask questions at times, they are so basic that they hardly flesh out the world for the reader.

While it had engaging moments, the story never really had my full attention due to a somewhat disjointed pace and its penchant for just not fully explaining things at times. It may have some appeal for teen readers just getting into the paranormal genre through graphic novels, but I wonder if there are others that handle the concept better.

I loved absolutely everything about this. The drawing style, the characters, the plot and its twists, the side quests, the cliffhanger end — I need volume 2 now, please!

Third Shift Society: Volume One is a fun and spooky read. It's an intriguing story with interesting characters. The artwork is also great. Fans of the paranormal and supernatural will enjoy reading this. I'm really looking forward to reading the next volume in this series. I highly recommend it!

This was an enjoyable graphic novel about paranormal investigative partners Ellie and Ichabod and their adventures. I can't wait to read more.

There were a couple of reasons I really loved this. The two main characters are amazing and their dynamic is fantastic. I loved how their introduction was when Ellie saved him. I also really enjoyed the references to famous stories, which made the stories feel old and new. There was so much excitement and action! I hope I get to read more of their adventures.

I love the dynamic between the two main characters, they make such a good team. I love exploring the different stories as they do each job and also can't wait to see what happens with the mystery man and the wired dream the main girl had after she was tricked into helping the man not knowing he was not human. This team is so much ful and I can't wait to see where this story goes.

I’ve sat and thought about how I’ve felt about this book, yet the only word is confused.

Third Shift Society follows our main character Ellie as she navigates a new job that deals with the undead and paranormal. Her new pumpkin-headed boss, Ichabod, trains her on how to deal with her new found psychic powers, while using her to help fight other beings.

The premise sounded so so good, but I found myself loosing track of in book time while being a little confused about character connections. While given a handful of lore there was still a few moments where I had to go back and reread a page or two or think about if I missing some information. The many character connections felt pre-established, in the way where I thought this was a second half of something bigger.

It feels as if there will be a lot of either fairy tale related references or classic related references and im interested to see how all of those tie into each other.

I will start by saying that I am a huge fan of WebToons and the comics I've discovered there. This one is perfect for me because I love spooky, magic, and all things odd. I found Third Shift Society to be amusing, thrilling, and overall fantastic! I love that Ichabod is a character, though I relate more to the stumbling human Ellie. Who hasn't wished things were a bit more interesting in their mundane lives? And the fact that it's titled Third Shift Society was a huge calling to me (graveyard shift workers!) in the first place. The artwork adapted well to the page and I am looking forward to the printed version!

I sometimes have trouble getting into graphic novels, but this was fun and fast moving! It definitely left me invested in the characters and excited for the next one!

Didn't know much about the literature before diving in, but I was absolutely blown away after finishing Volume 1.

Ellie is our main, and her life hasn't been well lately, due to having lost her job, with difficulty finding another, while the bills pile up. While out one day, a random encounter with the supernatural occurs, having found herself in the middle of a fight between our second character, a gentleman with a Pumpkin head, going toe-to-toe with an other worldly creature. What transpires after, up to the conclusion of Volume 1, is not just a fresh take for the genre at-large, but a story with more than just potential.

The main basis of the story can be considered detective fiction, with elements of the supernatural/fantasy, as well as a dash of spooky. The added comic relief between characters or scenes bolsters the plot. A story with an air of seriousness, but not taking itself too serious, so as to show that even in the darkest of circumstances, there is still light.

Between the array of colors, a whole host of fun characters, and a story that slowly world-builds with each case our supernatural detectives take on, this is a fantastic addition to anyone's collection. I absolutely loved this story, and cannot wait to read more.

This was such a fun read. I really enjoyed the paranormal investigations and adventures of this book. The art style was lovely and the humor was good.

However, I do wish there was more detail with Ellie’s training. I felt like there were some major plot points that were glossed over.

Ichabod was such an amazing character, definitely my favorite.

This is a delightful story. The art is beautiful, and the plot has me hooked. There were times that the side plots were a bit predictable, but the overarching story remains a wonderfully complex mystery! I also absolutely adore Ellie and Ichabod's relationship. Amazing work!

Ellie has a problem, a big problem. Her rent is due, she just lost her job and she seems to mess up every other job she tries. But when she intervenes in a fight between a pumpkin-head man and a strange ram, she finds she has psychic powers. Plus Ichabod, the man with a pumpkin for a head, offers her a job - as a paranormal detective! Now she just needs to learn how to control her powers without burning down her apartment and figure out what strangeness is going on without getting in so deep that she can't ever get out. Easy-peasy, right? It will be fun to see what happens nest!

This was an interesting read there were things I really enjoyed like the gorgeous art and the character design. The story opened up great- It started out with a few bits that made me actually laugh out loud, so I was expecting the humor to continue throughout, but sadly it didn't. The pacing and story development was a bit wonky and I think could've used some fleshing out. There were big plot points that are sort of zoomed past or not explained well. I wish there was more time spent developing the story. That being said, I really loved the characters and the story is interesting and I look forward to follow up volumes.

This graphic was a treat. I really liked the story and the clean illustrations. Really looking forward to reading the next volume!
