The author really outdid herself with this story, a twisted tale of Disney's Brave. In this story, Merida eats the spelled cake rather than her mother. In doing so, she disrupts a major part of her family's history, threatening bith her life and the very freedom she covets.

Merida is one of my favorite princesses, and I couldn't wait for her tale, and it did not disappoint! The story had a great pace and it was really great to see Merida get a better understanding of her mother, and her mother's life.

Thank you to Netgalley and Disney Publishing Worldwide for the advanced reader copy of this twisted tale.

I own a few of these twisted tales but had never actually read them so this was my first. I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed it despite having seen the original Brave movie a few times. I felt that this story really sucked me in and had amazing character development.

I found the story engaging even as an adult who is fond of fairy tales. It didn't every seem slow.

I think any child (or even adult) who loves a good fairy tale even if they are unfamiliar with the movie Brave would like story.

Fate Be Changed is an interesting reimagining of Brave with a mashup of Back To The Future and perhaps a smidge of Teen Wolf--but with a bear. Merida has to find a way to get her parents together after not truly knowing about her mother's past as an aristocrat. This story stays true to the heart of Merida, who wants to live by her own rules and not be tied down by tradition despite her attempts to ensure her parents remain consistent with their traditional marriage. It was a good read to revisit familiar characters in a new light.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Fate Be Changed is a truly enjoyable Disney Twisted Tale. This could be a stand alone, and you don’t really need to watch “Brave” before reading. That being said, the changes in the story are intriguing, while keeping the true nature of the characters intact.

This novel stands on its own, whether you have watched the movie Brave or not. Using the same characters, and focusing on Merida, this novel is a twist on the plot of the movie. Instead of Merida's mother Elinor eating the cake, Merida eats it herself, and finds herself transported back to a time when Elinor was an unwed girl, about to be betrothed to someone other than Merida's father Fergus. Merida has only a short time to change history back to what she remembers before she turns into the Mor'du, the mythical bear. Working against time, Merida encounters numerous obstacles in her quest to unite her parents, as the hair on her hands, then her chin, legs, and body, begins to grow, thicken, and darken.

Based on the mythology of the Scottish Highlands, this is a fun book for readers of all ages, with a primary theme showing that our lives are based on our choices, and secondary themes about family, duty, and responsibility.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I cannot express how much I love Farrah Rochon’s writing! She perfectly captures our beloved characters from Brave and gives them the story they deserve in this new Disney Twisted Tale, Fate Be Changed!

Remember in the movie when Merida runs off to the Witch to get a spell to change her fate? Well, the witch gives her a different spell this time that will indeed do the trick! But Merida ate the cake intended for her mother and gets sent back to a time before the clans were united, before her parents were married and before the threat of war.

One person is all it takes to change the future and Merida has set off events that may not be recoverable. It is up to her to fix the past to secure the future in this wild and adventurous twist of a tale!

I loved this book! I devoured it in only a few sittings and wish there was more to read. The story line was paced very well and the characters were easy to love!

I enjoy the Twisted Tales series, and Fate Be Changed was a great addition. Merida is such a complex character in general, that having her story really adds to the series and also is enjoyable to read.

Snappy, easy to read, flows well, and has good pace. Stopped after chapter 1 (6%) but as long as it keeps up, a solid three to four stars and probably five for a good chunk of the target audience.

Thank you to NetGalley and Disney for the ARC.

Ever since her first appearance Merida has been high on my list of Disney princesses next to Mulan and Jasmine. Merida is not clumsy or shy, she is forthright and blunt and fierce. Merida is an inspiration and true Scottish woman who will not be put in a corner and told to sit quietly. Her untamable spirit is perfectly captured in this story and I devoured it fasted than a witch enchanted cake. Farrah Rochon has woven together Scottish tradition, legend, romance, magic and a wee bit of Back to the Future vibe in this colorful tale of family and seeking to change one’s fate. Merida is devastated that her mother is set on marrying her off and determined to do anything to save her future. Unfortunately when she eats the cake intended for Elinor it has many consequences including sending her back before she was born, In fact, before her parents met and fell in love. She actually causes quite the ripple in not her own history but that of all her kingdom. With the help of a familiar but much younger witch, a charming young Ferguson and a surprisingly strong willed and and rebellious young Elinor, she has to stop an evil plot against the kingdoms, foil some nasty plots from a would be suitor of her mother, and find out exactly how lucky she is because her mother is fair more lenient than her strict grandparents. All this before the summer solstice or she will turn into a bear and her parents will never find that they are soul mates and her adorable brothers will never be born! It’s a whirlwind of action, romance, drama, and finding one’s self in the oddest of situations. I loved it cover to cover, all of it, delightful and perfectly in character. I love most of all that not only does Merida come to respect and see parts of herself in her mother, she develops a deeper love for both her parents by seeing them as friends and young people with struggles and hopes and dreams rather than just mom and dad. It’s a beautiful thing. So much love for this book. So amazing. I am a fan for life.

This was a DNF for me. It could not hold my attention, I am not sure if it was the writing style or it being to close to the movie at the start I just couldn't get into it.

3.5 rounded up. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this new Disney twisted tale. This story reminded me of a Brave/ Back to the Future crossover. Brave was never my favorite Disney movie. I loved Merida and her spirit but the movie always fell short for me. I was hoping I would enjoy the twisted tale more then the movie and it turns out I did. I felt that what the author did with the plot of this book helped the bond between the mother and daughter strengthen even more so then the movie. I also loved that the father was involved more. Story wise it felt a little long in parts and it seemed the middle could have been cut down a little but but I enjoyed the ending and overall story. Not my favorite of the twisted tales but still an enjoyable read.

One of my favorite series! Been waiting to see if a Brave one was going to happen and here it is. This was a very fun re-working of the story we all know. Love the multiple POV's and how we get more in depth with her mom. Can't wait to get a physical copy!
