I've tried picking this book up multiple times since I got it but I'm afraid I just can't connect with it. I'm going to go ahead and add it to my DNF list, but thank you very much for the opportunity to read and review it.

I'm going through the books I requested pre-2018 when I stopped blogging to clean up my NetGalley TBR and this was on the list. I don't think it's a book for me anymore and will not be reviewing at this time, but if I do read it, I will update this review. Thank you for the opportunity.

A mystery has taken place at the sight of the lost colony of Roanoke. Ellie bands together with her friend as they are thrust into figuring out what happened.

Unfortunately I struggled to enjoy this book. Not a great romance or adventure and the insta-love was painfully shallow.

Native American Folklore? Yes please....at least i thought that was how i was going to feel about this book. I fortunately i did NOT enjoy it. The female main character was NOT a very believable character. The male character was just a jerk. They didn't "mesh" well together for me.

I have to say that this book did annoy me quite a lot :/ It also reminded me immensely of Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins, both along the completely same lines.
The MC Ellie incredibly infuriated me. So self-centered and needy, always thinking about sex and boys and how she wants to find the right one. She’s always just so horny, and the denial that her and Collin have just pissed me off. I hate denial in relationships.
I have to say that ending did actually trip me. I might continue with the series, but realistically not :p Too many other books to read.
I can’t believe I finally actually got around to reading this to be honest. Thank you Scribd! I initially recommended this from Netgalley around 5 years ago 😮 I was approved, and this is how quickly I read it. I promise this isn’t how long it takes me to normally read my Netgalleys, I just got so bogged down with life back then and then I lost interest. But as you can see I’m trying to catch back up! I managed to find my own copy!

I received a copy through Netgalley for a review. The plot involved an ancient curse and an angry Native god which sounded intriguing but it took me awhile to read it, and I even stopped reading it at one point. I didn’t like either of the main characters, neither seemed to have any redeeming qualities. I am going to give the author another chance later on.

Ellie Lancaster was just living her life in her small town. She had friends she loved and a family she would do anything for. That is until Colin Daily walked into the diner she worked at and her world got turned upside down. Everything she believed was a fairy tale just might be real.

I wanted to start out by saying that even though this isn't one of my favorites and I will never read it again, I really did enjoy this story. It was great and had a lot of potential to be one of my all-time favorites. There were just a lot of factors that drug it down. A lot of reasons why I'm disappointed that my expectations were completely shot down.

There wasn't really a lot wrong with the story itself. A curse that could bring the end of the world may be used a lot, but at least they are unique for the most part. This had a very unique way of it happening. There were parts I felt were rushed over when they shouldn't be and parts that I felt got drawn out. There was a particular incident that I felt didn't even need to be in the book at all. I'm going to leave it at that to not spoil the book. My biggest issue with the storyline was the sex. There was too much sex. I don't understand why sex had to play such a huge role.

My biggest issue was with the characters. Most of the characters were blurred in the background. I get that the main two characters are the stars of the story, but the other characters should have had a bigger role than they did. There were characters referenced later in the story that I had forgotten all about and had to listen to the context surrounding what happened to remember who they were. The main characters were not very likable either. Both were very selfish and immature.

All in all, I still recommend this book. Despite all the problems with it, I still enjoyed it very much and will read the rest of the trilogy. Mainly because I'm curious about how it ends. I do want to point out that this book is highly sexually explicit and has many curse words thrown in. Sometimes a little too much. It's still a great story in the end and I'm glad I was given the chance to read it.
