This second story in "The Royal Brides Series" surpasses the first one! It is exceptional romance. I loved the evolving relationship between Regina Beswick and Tanner Burkhardt. You really believe that "Reggie," who heads her own classic car restoration business, can discover she's a princess and can love deeply in love with Tanner, the Minister of Culture for the Grand Duchy of Hessenberg. It is also gripping to see how Reggie comes to terms with her destiny just as Tanner deals with a personal dilemma that has haunted him for a decade. Rachel Hauck's writing is wonderfully descriptive. This book is simply delightful. I look forward to the other two books in the series. |
Rachel Hauck's second offering in her Royal Wedding series, Princess Ever After, is everything you want in a modern fairy-tale. There's a spunky heroine, a handsome hero, and plenty of conflict. (Disclaimer: I received a free digital copy of the book from Litfuse Publicity Group in exchange for my review.) This book has a bit of The Princess Diaries feel to it as Regina weighs her options as the newly found heir to the throne. She prefers the company of cars and working folks to ceremony and pomp, yet she charms most of the people she meets. And Tanner, the government official sent to fetch her from America, is a caught between the man he used to be and the man he wants to become. The sparks fly between them, and the story isn't easy to walk away from. I stayed up too late to finish it, always the sign of a good book, in my opinion. What I have loved about both of the books in this series is the fictional countries, part British, part German, Hauck has created, and how much they appeal to my love of all things British. The way Tanner speaks is believable in its foreignness. The point of view is deeply un-American (not anti-American, mind you), which I would think is hard for an American to write. I was impressed in both books with the authentic words Hauck uses for everyday items in the fictional countries. Princess Ever After is the perfect Valentine's Day read, and Hauck is one of my new favorite authors. |
**My thanks to NetGalley and Zondervan Fiction, for providing me with a free copy for an honest review** I am grudgingly giving this book three stars. Although the cover and the book description got me to try this book, as a consumer i felt them slightly misleadinging. Why? Because of the amount of country politics and the very hard and clear christian theme throughout the book. If you are going to have such a christian theme in a book, warning would be nice as i was NOT expecting it. The backbone of the story was good, a 29 year old finds out she is a lost princess and heir to a throne in which if she does not take the crown the country will be absorbed into another country. There is also a love of classic cars going on. There is love, plotting, a very strong christian theme, diary readouts from her dead grandmother, lots of politics and friendship. The book is also very clean and only has a few kisses dotted around, with our couple skirting around most of the book with their feelings. Certainly not an author i will be reading again. |
Second in the Royal Wedding Series, these books stand by themselves but share the common theme of a romantic modern-day fairy tale. Rachel Hauck can be counted on for captivating, page-turning stories and sincere characters with heart. Princess Ever After brings every little girl’s dream of being a princess to sweet fruition. Summary: Small town girl, Regina Beswick was born to be a princess. Happy to run a classic car restoration shop, her secret calling is a complete surprise. The unflappable Minster of Culture for the Grand Duchy of Hessenberg, Tanner Burkhardt is assigned to retrieve the long-lost princess. His intrinsic fear of failure nearly keeps him from securing his nation’s future as well as his own. When Regina’s claim to the throne is under scrutiny by a political opponent, she must decide if she’s truly destined to rule an ancient nation or restore antique cars. Tanner and Regina will learn the truth of her heritage and the undeniable healing power of true love. |
