What the hellllllll!!! This was wild. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started reading this. New mom here reading about all the children of the world DYING. Greattttt. But I did enjoy this wild ride, I was definitely sucked in! My first Craig DiLouie book.

This was a creepy (and often gross) horror read that will stick with me for some time. The first half had me glued to the page, but the second half was a bit drawn out, in my opinion. I ultimately enjoyed it, but I think it could've some with about 100 fewer pages.

I enjoyed this creepy, imaginative take on the vampire genre. The idea of all this mass death event is first heartbreaking, and then morphs into a “what would you do for your child” kind of mind game. It had a definite Pet Sematary vibe, but on a mass scale.
While I really enjoyed the plot, I couldn’t quite rate it 4+. I wanted more from the ending, and the writing style and pacing fell just a little short.
Still, I would recommend this book to horror fans and am looking forward to reading more by DiLouie in the future.
