I enjoyed this creepy, imaginative take on the vampire genre. The idea of all this mass death event is first heartbreaking, and then morphs into a “what would you do for your child” kind of mind game. It had a definite Pet Sematary vibe, but on a mass scale.

While I really enjoyed the plot, I couldn’t quite rate it 4+. I wanted more from the ending, and the writing style and pacing fell just a little short.

Still, I would recommend this book to horror fans and am looking forward to reading more by DiLouie in the future.

Fantastically told tale of an unique apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic storyline. I found it never let up in its dread-inducing sadness. Great characters and very interesting take on one of my favorite genres. Highly recommended.

I tried very hard to read this book, but couldn't. It's my worst nightmare (child death) and my second worst nightmare (pandemic) thrown together. I'm sure it was scary and thrilling, but I couldn't deal with it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
