(I received a free digital copy of this book via the publisher and NetGalley). Nina is in the park one day and sees a woman she recognizes from her past, Emma. Emma does not notice her and Nina quickly leaves. Nina can't stop thinking about Emma and when she sees her again months later, she contrives to find a way to talk with her and become her friend. The story shows the development of their relationship and slowly reveals why Nina is so interested in Emma.
The book is very well-written. The chapters switch between the viewpoint of Nina or Emma, sometimes retelling an event from both characters' perspectives. The author does a great job of giving backgrounds on the characters' lives and explaining their feelings, especially about how they are coping with motherhood. The book has a good creepy vibe to it.
Unfortunately, I didn't feel much empathy for any of the characters. Their unhappiness with their lives just seemed a little excessive. The reveal at the end of the book was a bit of a let down, I think I was expecting something more. There is also quite an abrupt, shocking ending that leaves a few loose ends. Overall, it was a good read and I would try another book from this author.
