There are many things about this book that I like. It has so many memorable characters in it, and is a well-written tale of two brothers growing up in a dysfunctional family in the South. It starts of a bit strangely. I wasn't sure, reading the first few pages, if I was even going to continue reading, but it is a story worth pursuing, particularly if you enjoy reading about the South, it's history and culture.

There are many twists and turns as the reader joins them on their life journey. The writing is very vivid, drawing the reader into the story in a powerful way. There are spiritual and supernatural elements to the story.

Truly the only thing I didn't like about it was that the imagery was so powerful regarding the supernatural/kind of spooky aspects, that it ended up haunting me and giving me nightmares for several days after I'd finished the story.
