While this novel was ultimately well-researched in terms of historical events and even ship parts, a few factors nagged at me throughout the book. One was that there was a little bit too much of the white savior trope for my liking and some of the other characters came through as cliche. Although the premise was interesting, it falls short of what it had the potential to be.
