This isn't a book I would normally choose for myself but as Mama Janice always says, "This book was not meant for you!" So I'll soldier on.

I could see this being very appealing for it's target audience. As a Christian novel, the references to religion don't hit you over the head, yet there were references to prayer (from the father in the waiting room) and the young girl's attraction to her teacher was innocuous.

The day Sarah intends to tell her teacher Mr. Haddings (a young grad student who uses teaching to make extra money to get through school) how she feels about him, fate deals them a fatal blow: Haddings, distracted by his cell while driving, accidentally strikes Sarah as she's crossing the street. Their fates are forever intertwined after this accident. What follows are updates from Haddings and Sarah's perspective as they get through the first few days (and hours) of the accident.

I enjoyed the perspective changes, and liked Grover's decision to switch all the way over to Haddings while Sarah was in her operation and recovery room. This way, we were able to see the complex family dynamic she describes. Sarah's best friend is also a great addition to the waiting room scene and she acts exactly how I'd expect my bestie to act if I were hit by the guy I had an inappropriate crush on.

What I did not like was the unnecessary relationship between Sarah's brother and her best friend. It seemed superfluous to me. I'd rather Grover had focused more of her energy on how the parents' relationship is going to play out going forward from the accident. The dad is clearly dealing with some anger issues despite his faith and Sarah's mother needs to slowly learn to lean on her husband (and her faith?) as their lives continue after the accident.
