An exciting story with two characters who drive each other crazy... until they don't ;) I had a difficult time with Emily in the beginning because of her attitude, but as her past was slowly revealed, I grew to understand her a bit more. I enjoy stories set during the Regency era but delve into the lives of those not placed high in Society. It's always a little more gritty, but also interesting and eye-opening to the way of life back then.
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)

Now, on to the book at hand, Brentwood's Ward. Nicholas Brentwood is hired to watch and protect Emily Payne while her father is away. It quickly becomes clear that it is going to be no easy task. Just dealing with Emily is a struggle, but that pales in comparison to what else they will face together. As dangers and trials are thrown at them, they must rely on the only One who has control.
Emily and Nicholas are realistic and well-written characters. With a quick-moving plot and a strong theme, I enjoyed both the story and the moral. I needed a little more justification to Nicholas's growing feelings towards Emily, but it is a sweet romance. The historical setting is perfect. It adds to the story and educates the reader. The message is strong and clear, which is what matters most.
Overall: Fun book, interesting historical aspect, solid theme!

I really enjoyed Ms. Griep's book, The Captive Heart so I was excited to read this regency of hers. While it was enjoyable, I enjoyed her other book more. I wasn't feeling the romance, didn't quite see what Nicholas saw in Emily (she was pretty spoiled). Had a hard time keeping my interest. This may be a case of "its not you, its me." Still look forward to trying more of Ms. Griep's books.
Thought h was way to shallow to capture the H's attention the way she did. Felt more physical attraction than true love for the person. Didn't care for the side story of the maid being raped (in place of the h) and how the rapist supposedly has a change of heart and wants to now take care of her. Maybe I missed something. Religious stuff felt off and out of place.

Emily is a feisty and headstrong character. She knows what she wants and won't let anyone stop her or control her. Mr. Brentwood is a dashing and galant character. I was soon swooning over him. The overall story was good and the writing was smooth. I would recommend and read again someday.
